AIBU to say the Green Party has an antisemitism problem?

Aislyn · 27/04/2026 15:55

I said this in a conversation and got an interesting reaction.

I’m basing it on repeated examples of Green Party candidates and members sharing conspiracy theories about zionists, downplaying antisemitism, or even justifying attacks on Israeli civilians. That goes way beyond normal criticism of Israel.

I’m not saying every supporter is antisemitic, but there does seem to be a pattern with some of their people, and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to call that out. Notably, many of the people who have come out with these views are still party members.

A friend said I was smearing the party and that this is just pro-Palestinian views being misrepresented.

Am I being unreasonable to call it an antisemitism problem?

@KoalaKoKo

You've claimed you can't consider @Aislyn's points because they are behind a paywall so you can't read the articles so here are two for you:

Green activists called Jews ‘abominations’ in leaked WhatsApp chat
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/cea556b30fb8c5b9

If you don’t think the Greens are mainstreaming Jew-hate, read their own words
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/e05b592f6667318d

At the same time you have shared an article which can't be read without subscribing (the one about the skin bank). When researching this, there is no reliable reporting on this with most links coming from those that use slurs or social media. This in itself should make you question the claims.

You then go on to post claims from Euro Med which is an advocacy group, and has historic issues with credibility. You'll note that these claims haven't been picked up by credible sources, even those that are anti-Israel, because even a moment of critical analysis would make you question them.

None of what you have said (irrespective of how much hatred and harm it spreads), has explained why you think it is okay for the Green Party to speak about British Jews in such a vile manner.

Thank you Errol. I was careful to only post links to mainstream media, so there would be confidence regarding the standard of the reporting.

It seems that some people are so keen to excuse Anti-Semitism that they will use non-credible sources to justify their repugnant views. It's extremely dangerous, as there is an echo chamber online, repeating what are modern days blood libels. These individuals either lack the critical thinking skills to examine the sources, or know they are unreliable and still spread them. I am not sure what is worse.

The BNP: I am not a racist, but….

The Greens: I am not an antisemite, but…

Two heads of the same coin.

I wholeheartedly agree with this.

It’s us who have been scared into using the word Zionists because of the fear of being labelled anti-Semites.

Straight from the horse's mouth.

Sadly, I am unsurprised at the number of undeniably racist replies to this thread, which have now been deleted. What has surprised is that there is no ban for this. @mnhq perhaps time to rethink your moderation? There are some posters who repeatedly post racist content, rather than engage in any intellectual debate.

Sorry, just re-read your post and yes, they are quite open about they're hatred of Jews (not Israelis or Zionists)

Reminder that hatred of Israelis is also not ok!

Nor is hatred of Zionists.

The world would be a lot better place if there was less hatred and more tolerance.

They're being sold, and posts like that mean clicks and therefore advertising revenue.

I am a proud Anti-Zionist and a proud anti-racist. As you've been told before, you don't get to police how I think or feel. You may differ in opinion with me but you are not more correct. I worry that you have gone through life not being told that people will disagree with you and that it's fine for them to do that.

Well it’s the same people every time so you must have an insight into their thinking by now.

I haven’t commented before or, are you just lumping all Jewish people together? Because that sounds like…

Also, could you let me know the acceptable number of comments I’m allowed to make about antisemitism? Thanks in advance.

I have never been racist towards anybody and wouldn't be. I am not a white person and you are being incredibly offensive. I'd love you to say that to my face - but you wouldn't. Easy being a keyboard warrior isn't it.

Sadly, I agree with you on this. I am really shocked that someone who repeatedly posts incredibly racist comments is not banned though.

Hi all,

We’ve made some deletions on this thread.

Please keep our Talk guidelines in mind - particularly around personal attacks, and not making broad generalisations. We’re keen to keep the discussion going, but it needs to stay civil.

Thanks.

Yes, agreed (sorry, very clumsy wording). I merely meant that when people try and defend these people to say its about Israel, its very clearly not because the people spreading this hate openly admit they hate Jews.

You made some very offensive remarks about Jewish people upthread. And no I don't confront preople making antisemitic comments in person anymore, for my own safety.
