AIBU to say the Green Party has an antisemitism problem?

I said this in a conversation and got an interesting reaction.

I’m basing it on repeated examples of Green Party candidates and members sharing conspiracy theories about zionists, downplaying antisemitism, or even justifying attacks on Israeli civilians. That goes way beyond normal criticism of Israel.

I’m not saying every supporter is antisemitic, but there does seem to be a pattern with some of their people, and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to call that out. Notably, many of the people who have come out with these views are still party members.

A friend said I was smearing the party and that this is just pro-Palestinian views being misrepresented.

Am I being unreasonable to call it an antisemitism problem?

Why did you need to start yet another thread about this?

I agree OP. It's not just reasonable criticism of Israel. It's obsessive, visceral loathing of Israel beyond all other states (whilst showing no equivalent interest in other British allies that do reprehensible things). Denying the Jewish right to self-determination (anti-zionism) but no parallel interest in self-determination of other groups. Conspiracy theories. Xenophobic attitudes towards Israeli people and businesses. There's plenty of straightforward anti-semitism but for some people it's also a leftist loyalty pledge or an Islamist thing.

The shocking thing to me is that it isn't called out. They are still allowed to rub as a party despite the racism within. There is no enquiry, no calls for change. I can't see other forms of racism being so tolerated.

Would anyone who things I am being unreasonable like to explain why?

The green party started with good intentions, but has been hijacked by ultra left communists who are hiding behind the green policies.

It is overt, it comes across as a visceral hatred of Jews and it is genuinely scary

Don’t forget their Islamist arm.

The sad thing is, we need a party for the environment but the Green Party clearly have far bigger fish to fry. As PP mentioned on the other thread - ZP wouldn’t survive very long in Palestine - he would be beaten or thrown from a tall building. But he will fight their corner against Israel. Something’s gone very wrong in his reasoning.

Agreed. There are often more than one thread started about contemporary issues. I didn't know others have been started recently, but it is rightly something that worries people.

Complaining about the number of threads, rather than the important substance, does seem to be an attempt to minimise.

I am all for a party for the environment. I think most people are interested in the environment nowadays.

The green party has moved so far away from environmental interests however. It's unrecognisable from it's original purpose, and has been coopted by environmentalists.

It’s madness that being anti genocide is construed as anti semitism.

Which specific quote do you think is being misconstrued? I have seen plenty that are undoubtedly racist.

I mean, no shit, Sherlock, right?

The antisemitism from a party with a Jewish leader is particularly disturbing. Hating Netanyahu is perfectly reasonable, he's a war-mongering horror. But the way the Greens talk about Jewish people is disgusting.

The party used to be about environmental concerns. Now it's a weird and unworkable coalition of Gender Woo zealots and Islamists.

Agreed. I think someone is mighty scared of the Greens and is stirring the pot. The same thing happened to Corbyn.

There is a problem on the left of politics with anti semitism, they become bold under Corbyn’s disastrous leadership and now switched to Green and have become bolder since the war

There should be many threads on this issue as it’s a very serious problem that so many Jewish people are not feeling safe in those country

Corbyn allowed anti semitism to take hold in the Labour Party. The party was an absolute disgrace under his leadership

of course people in this country are scared the very places they should feel the safest are being attacked that is who is really scared

I'm a member of the Greens and have been for several years but I'm very worried about the direction they are heading in.

Thank you for giving your perspective as a green party member. What would make you leave the party as a member?

I've been hanging by my fingernails, voting internally for the policies I would support and hoping to effect change from within.

But I'm reaching my limit.

You're using Islamist as a pejorative, equating it to racism. That's not particularly tolerant.
