My major one currently is people within earshot eating snacks out of a packet e.g. crisps, cookies, and making that bloody crinkling noise. Makes me want to put my fist through the wall. What are your main triggers?

Same for me! I have to put a finger in my ear closest to the person doing it!

Chewing gum mouth smackers, don’t get me started lol!

Fingernail pickers, people who heavily nasal breathe whilst eating, drink slurpers, noisy mouth breathers, and plenty more to boot.

furusato · 14/04/2026 05:12

Gulping drinks and same as you crunching crisps etc near me. Makes me feel ridiculous amounts of anger. I want to run away from the situation and the stress if I can’t is really challenging.

IncompleteSenten · 14/04/2026 05:15

People eating, and that whispering stuff that is very popular at the moment are the worst, although there are others. Those two make me feel murderous. My heart is pounding I'm that angry when i hear it and i fantasise about killing the person doing it. It is a ridiculous response but I have no control over it

Dear God, (Donald?) that ASMR crap gives me such rage. Can't conceive of how anyone could find that relaxing or enjoyable.

Crinkling packets, the sound of eating anything hard like almonds that sounds like chewing rocks (this is almost always my mum who is very responsive to my complaints bless her), open-mouthed eating with slurps/smacks/audible tongue mashing, finger sucking, nail biting, any flicky nail noises.

TeeBee · 14/04/2026 05:38

The dog chewing his fucking paws. Aaaahhh.

Kay00 · 14/04/2026 05:41

Chewing gum (especially as there's no end to it).
Anything crunchy (apples/crisps etc)
Eating with the mouth open.
People who vocalise their yawns. Just stfu 😅.
Nail clippers (my OH has to wait for me to leave the house before he can sort out his nails 😂)

Luckily wrappers don't annoy me.
But I also get the totally ridiculous want to murder the person making the above noises, and I promptly leave the room.

EdinaMonsoonsWardrobe · 14/04/2026 06:28

All of the above plus TUTTING

TheGoldenOwl · 14/04/2026 06:33

People who smack food around in their mouth. Chew with your damn mouth closed. I know it is extreme butnit makes me change my entire opinion of a person. How can they a) not realise they do this b) not understand how gross it is?

(My dog excepted - i find it absoloutely adorable when she does it and dogs don't have the ability to chew with their mouths closed either).

ETA - also knuckle crackers

VanQueefApples · 14/04/2026 06:34

Sniffing. Pens clicking.

TinkyBella · 14/04/2026 06:45

Sniffing. I recently went on a 2 day course and ended up sitting next to someone who sniffed throughout. I ended up asking her if she wanted me to get her a tissue. I Also become very angry when people talk whilst eating.

Oh god, this is DH. I think he has allergies but he won't go to the doctor about it so he just sniffles and snorts constantly. It drives me insane!

Cablestitches · 14/04/2026 06:51

Clicking pens

Slow pouring of drinks

The first few sips of a hot drink

Rhythmic eating (crunch crunch crunch swallow on repeat)

ASMR

People not on mute doing mouth breathing down their headphones

BlueberrySummerCloud · 14/04/2026 06:52

Just to say noisy eaters doesnt mean you have Misophonia .
It means they are a ill manner pigs

My DH can make the dog jump biting into an apple
He is currently brewing a cold and we already have the forced loud coughing
Its like his head is a cave Hmm

Justbecauseyoucandoesntmeanyoushould · 14/04/2026 06:54

All the food-related noises - chewing loudly, smacking, slurping, gulping, etc. Disgusting.

greenteaandlimes · 14/04/2026 06:56

Gum chewers / gum snappers make me lose my mind.
Drink slurping.
Knuckle cracking.
But primarily the gum - gives me murderous rage as a PP has mentioned.

stapletonsguitar · 14/04/2026 06:57

DH does a double whammy with his tea - a slurp then a gulp 😩

SassyButClassy · 14/04/2026 07:00

Eating, chewing, typing excessively and loudly on a laptop keyboard, ticking clocks, breathing, clearing throat, sniffling, so many........

GreenMarigold · 14/04/2026 07:01

Eating cereal, particularly crunchy kinds like Cornflakes
As pp said, slurping and gulping hot drinks

ProudAmberTurtle · 14/04/2026 07:01

Whistling

TikTokker · 14/04/2026 07:03

Any type of eating really but slurping soup crunching apples, crisps are the worst. Someone sat on a plane next to me recently and ate an entire family size bag of peanuts. It was torture. I could have punched her through the ceiling. I was going to say I’ve got an allergy but ended up hiding at the back of the plane until the rustling and crunching AND finger licking stopped.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 14/04/2026 07:06

Dripping taps.
Dog licking itself.

Bonjovispjs · 14/04/2026 07:09

Noisy eating
Sniffing
Phones on loudspeaker without headphones

BB49 · 14/04/2026 07:11

Clicking fingers, eating with mouth open and chewing, gulping and sniffing.

Dymaxion · 14/04/2026 07:19

Noisy eating, extra points for mouth open or talking whilst doing it. Loud finger licking. Slurping drinks or soup/noodles.

Ticking clocks on the other hand I love.
