My major one currently is people within earshot eating snacks out of a packet e.g. crisps, cookies, and making that bloody crinkling noise. Makes me want to put my fist through the wall. What are your main triggers?

The dog chewing his fucking paws. Aaaahhh.

completely agree. Mine is doing this constantly at the minute. Part of me really feels for him. The other wants to smother him.

GenerousGardener · 14/04/2026 08:13

Noisy eaters who don’t close their mouths. I have no desire to see and hear your food going round in your mouth like a washing machine. Sniffers, noisy cutlery chankers (OH eats cornflakes and the noise, chank chank chankerty chank. The noise has me running for the hills. People who can’t keep their fingers out of their food. People who can’t use a knife and stab their food with a fork then eat the food like it was a Lolly. People who constantly pick at themselves, looking for scabs, spots etc. OMG! My list is endless.

WhatWouldDianeLockhartDo · 14/04/2026 08:16

The cinema is a complete no go for us now. People whispering and talking, chewing, sucking and endless rustling! Argh! Quite funny tho, I was in S&P last week and obv it was frustrating enough but then 3 hours in, a patient came in and it appeared to be a family day out. 4 people - grandma, grandad and husband and wife. They came in and all talked loudly. Then they pulled out snacks!!!! Snacks!!!! They sat eating them loudly, rustling and talking. DP and I kept looking at each other. Then they stopped - praise the lord. 20 mins later, round two! DP said he had to go for a walk. My friend said it was heartless of him and he should have waited but I also would have left if I could.

(I have found my people)

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 14/04/2026 08:17

People eating apples or cereal.
Hard typing on a keyboard.
Lip smacking.

Changingplace · 14/04/2026 08:19

People scraping at yoghurt pots, scrape scrape scrape, there’s nothing bloody left.

Tea slurping, ugh I can’t be around my dad drinking tea, he kind of sucks it through his teeth, awful.

And yes any general unnecessary munching of food, talking with mouth full, it sets me on edge.

stapletonsguitar · 14/04/2026 06:57

DH does a double whammy with his tea - a slurp then a gulp 😩

Grounds for divorce

Cutlery scraping on plates on spoons bashing against the side of bowls sends me to a very bad place

My son actually has a visceral reaction to this to the point where we just can’t eat out any more, and mostly use plastic cutlery at home. I wish someone could invent silent cutlery and crockery!

Scrimupnorth · 14/04/2026 08:35

People squeezing plastic water bottles, vocal fry and nearly everything mentioned above.

PurpleNightingale · 14/04/2026 08:44

People typing on noisy keyboards- this is worse for me in the singular- eg one on a train rather than several in the office. Loud chewing. Knuckle cracking. People listening without headphones to any media in public places (this seems to mix with my rage at the rudeness to be particularly unbearable). Ticking clocks when its otherwise quiet. I'm also really sensitive to floral or strong scents, (particularly perfumes and particularly when freshly sprayed) and find them even more intolerable than noise sometimes.

Woohootwoo · 14/04/2026 08:44

Influencers tapping everything with their nails . The sound drives me mad .

guestusername · 14/04/2026 08:47

Just off the top of my head and in no particular order-

Noisy eaters - every time that Uber Eats ad is on where he’s shoving chicken in his gob in the park is my current nightmare
Noisy drinkers
Noisy breathing (illness just about excepted)
Constant sniffing and throat clearing
Finger lickers
Cutlery scrapers
TV kissing
Long fake nails tapping on touch screens
Certain accents

ShanghaiDiva · 14/04/2026 08:49

Throat clearing
sniffing
spoons on bowls of soup
chewing gum smacking noise
eating with mouth own- known in our house as chomping

Goatymum · 14/04/2026 08:54

All of it!!
Chewing/lip smacking noises/slurping/crinkling packets in cinema (makes me so on edge I can’t concentrate on the film), sneezing (dh does such loud ones), excessive sniffing.

Goatymum · 14/04/2026 08:58

stapletonsguitar · 14/04/2026 06:57

DH does a double whammy with his tea - a slurp then a gulp 😩

@stapletonsguitarMine too - what the actual heck? I often leave the room if he makes a cup of tea! I’ve given up trying to ask him not to slurp and gulp. 🤦‍♀️ 😡
He prob got the habit from FIL who had no table manners.

Dear God, (Donald?) that ASMR crap gives me such rage. Can't conceive of how anyone could find that relaxing or enjoyable.

Ha. Yes. Thats what people who don't actually have it don't understand. Its not just not liking it, or being annoyed, or irritated, its the strength of the rage and hatred that overwhelmes you. I feel so angry I feel like I cant breathe and it takes everything in me not to beat them to death. I want them to die. That's how huge the rage is

It is terrifying. And you know it is ridiculous but it is not within your control. Its kind of like a steroid backed rage filled panic attack.

I had cut to conquer a very severe needle phobia and it worked. Cbt did not work a bit with this.

Olderbutt · 14/04/2026 09:03

People crinkling packets for snacks, rattling plastic bags, the sound of suitcases with wheels on an outside pavement, the sound of stilleto heels, random tapping, metal being cut, high pitched screaming 😱

aWeeCornishPastie · 14/04/2026 09:04

Loud sneezes, sniffling constantly. Funnily enough the lip smacking food eating ones don’t really bother me.

Yellowpapersun · 14/04/2026 09:08

Sniffing. Noisy eaters. Fingernail flicking. Dogs yapping (deep barking is ok). Heavy breathing.

Sidebeforeself · 14/04/2026 09:17

My DH makes a “pop” sound with his lips after a sip of wine…agh!
His watch clanking against his keyboard
My son in laws leg jiggling (not a sound I know but I have to move out of sight of it)
And …Im really sorry about this one…Scouse accents. And I have a lovely friend from Liverpool!

looselegs · 14/04/2026 09:21

Small Children eating bananas
And making that grunting noise when they've got a bit of a cold whilst they're eating....
My husband, tasting something new and smacking his lips like he's some professional food taster on Masterchef...

Hulahooops · 14/04/2026 09:21

Lots of the above.
And also people tapping their nails on the table or any hard surfaces.
Tap tap tap.
Gives me the rage and humming.

GinaandGin · 14/04/2026 09:22

Slurping
Clearing throat
Yawning loudly (no need)
Loud booming voices ... sush you aren't a bingo caller
Rustling plastic bags
Loud cars / scooters

Lomonald · 14/04/2026 09:25

Slurping, and the tinkle of ice or people swirling ice, the "tinny" noise you sometimes get from loud speakers on phones, my dog licking can sometimes send me over the edge.

Owlmoonstar · 14/04/2026 09:28

People eating.

And people scraping the last dregs out of their yoghurt pot like some fucking crack head.
