AIBU to think excluding children from their dad's wedding was hurtful?

My 3 children recently announced their OP was remarrying and were super excited about the event. We spoke about outfits, where they were staying and how fun the day would be. However, on the big day they never went to the ceremony (no after party), no suits or dresses, nothing! AIBU to think this is such a horrible thing to do to your own children? Build them up to think there’s a big event and then exclude them?

For the love of God will you USE YOUR WORDS and explain the full story?

JHound · 12/04/2026 22:00

OP is being weirdly cagey on this thread.
It needs a lot more context and info to answer.

I agree with PP that there seems to be a lot of key info missing here. I think OP is looking for an angle here as seems to be deliberately withholding some info

Stories its probably story farming i have stories but im saying nothing

Truetoself · 12/04/2026 22:14

Hoe bizarre!

It’s threads like this that honestly make me wonder about the education schools are providing.

The inability to craft a brief narrative with pertinent information is bizarre.

Very frustrating. How difficult is it to write a clear explanation?

redskyAtNigh · 12/04/2026 22:25

So their father told them that he was getting married and that they would have new suits/dresses.

On the day of the wedding, they travelled 150 miles with him to the place where the ceremony was held. They did not have new suits/dresses.
They did not attend the ceremony but did something else while it was going on (unclear).

It sounds as though it was a small ceremony and they were never meant to be included, though why the travelling to the ceremony and not attending I cannot fathom.

Anyone else imagining these kids sat on a bench with a coke and a packet of crisps each whilst dad points at the registry office and says I’m just going to be in there for 30 mins behave yourselves.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 12/04/2026 22:50

And those who are chipping in with their own experiences - why? The OP isn’t going to engage.

Why not type exactly what happened rather than drip information every time someone asks a relevant question?

Because then they can’t keep the thread running for more frothy responses ……..

YES!! Or leaving them in the car and sending someone out to check every now and again that nobody is fucking around with the cigarette lighter 🤣

Seriously, does anyone actually believe this?

Yes...because mn is all about trusting your gut and not questioning anything

This was going to be my comment. Just had an image of being sat on a wall with a bag of crisps and a lemonade 🤣

There were 15 guests in total. The children remained outside the building.

Im sorry but you are not giving the story in chronological order so difficult to reply

Did you ex say the children were invited?

How was their no outfits when you say in your OP that they were discussed ?

Your children obviouslyy travelled as you say so in your OP. where? who with? what caused them to be stood outside the wedding venue?

outerspacepotato · 12/04/2026 23:48

So did they just hang in the parking lot with the riffraff?

purpleme12 · 13/04/2026 00:05

What is OP? Other Parent?

He sounds awful. Does his new wife have her own kids and were at the wedding?

purpleme12 · 13/04/2026 00:16

It's clearly supposed to be DP - so their dad

This is exactly what my dad used to do when he went to the betting shop when we were kids! 😂
