Is it safe to visit The US?

niknak1234 · 02/04/2026 16:59

Over the last few months I have seen a lot of is it safe to travel to The US threads, and a lot of replies of "I wouldn't chance it."

Why do people really think is going to happen at the most popular tourist destinations?

Strip searched at JFK airport because you posted you didn't like Trump on Mumsnet? Shot by ICE at The Magic Kingdom whilst queueing up to meet Chip n Dale? Deported to Caracas whilst watching Lion King on Broadway?

OP posts:

I love the States, also pro-Trump. Don’t read MSM for the most part. Excited to go back shortly.

Stay there by all means. We can do without Trumpists in the UK.

Yes, I realise some people are utterly intolerant of people having different views to them.

Hahaha, the main culprit being Trump himself 🤣 His unhinged social media rants about Bruce Springsteen, Rosie O Donnell, Rob Reiner etc etc etc. He's really preaching tolerance isn't he. What a joke!

I tolerate people having different views. Within reason.

I do still draw the line at people who support men who rape children though. Which is barely the tip of the iceberg in terms of his horrendous behaviour.

Once again, a poster proves my theory about people who use the crying laughing emoji.

This. Why on earth would ANYONE be tolerant of that?

Tourists are not being snatched off the street or shot, and the question is about tourism.

I was replying to a comment about us citizens not wanting to return.

AppleKatie · 03/04/2026 20:21

This thread is bizarre. It’s basically ‘Some people don’t think the US is Safe I think they are all idiots’

Some people think the US is unsafe others don’t want to go and support a political regime they have moral objections to. You might not feel that way OP but can you imagine why others might hold different views?

Last time I looked this wasn’t something he is convicted of. So what you’re actually saying is guilty until proven innocent.

I think guilty until proven innocent is entirely appropriate when you are holding the level of power that he does. He wouldn't even be allowed to get a job as a caretaker in a school with the accusations (and convictions) he has against him, but president of one of the most powerful countries in the world, no problem apparently!

This is ridiculous. You aren’t prevented from caretaker jobs based on accusations, you have to have a conviction.

He does have convictions, 34 in fact.

The convictions are for falsifying business records.

And you think that makes him a reliable, trustworthy candidate to run a country?

Happyasapiginmuck1 · 03/04/2026 21:09

Why would you want to go and support the American economy right now? Far better and safer places to visit. Our bills have gone up as a direct result of their lunatic of a president being in power. I'm voting with my feet and have no intention of going there.

Bingbongsingalong · 03/04/2026 21:07

Considering the falsifications are for things that are not actually illegal, it’s a bit of a bizarre conviction in the first place. Hence the controversy surrounding it, and the similar cases being tossed out.

Do I think that the Democrats were throwing absolutely everything they could possibly find at him during his successful elections campaign? Yes.

Do I think your simplification of a politically charged situation proves anything? Nope.

FlayOtters · 03/04/2026 21:17

niknak1234 · 02/04/2026 17:49

I think he is great.

go on, I'll bite. In what POSSIBLE way is the racist, war-mongering, demented sex offender currently president of the US 'great'?

Rubyupbeat · 03/04/2026 21:19

I know if you are going to work over there, then yes they do check your social media. Not sure they do if it's for a holiday.

britinnyc · 03/04/2026 22:30

Trump is deranged and an embarrassment to the country. That doesn’t mean the U.S. is now a facist nation or that it is lawless and overrun by racists abs biggots. We very much continue to have free speech with massive turnouts for protests. The tide is turning against him. No one is checking the social media of hundreds of thousands of travelers a week, nothing has passed that will require tourists to put down their social media info in order to get an ESTA. It remains safe to visit the U.S. in general no matter what your race, religion, sexual orientation etc. Are there places to avoid, sure but that is the same in every country. If you don’t want to visit I understand but the generalizations are too much and some of the comments are downright insulting making offensive assumptions about all people living in the US. Most of us don’t want this fool in the White House but also don’t have the opportunity to leave because of him (even people who are dual citizens and could theoretically go elsewhere, if only it was that easy!)

He is categorically a rapist.

I think arguing whether someone is innocent until proven guilty when they control the system that looks for evidence of guilt, and redacted his name from files including multiple offences, would piss off even Blackstone.

He is a rapist. I firmly believe of children as well. But he’s definitely a rapist.

Justthethingsthatyoudointhisgarden · 03/04/2026 22:41

Go if you want. I wouldn't while that utter belled has control. But hey, I guess that makes me insane in your book. I'd say it means I have morals.

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 03/04/2026 22:43

I'm a rich, white, middle class, middle aged woman. I wouldn't risk setting foot there atm.

the regime there is getting more and more like pre-war Germany.

Well that's ok then. As long as he only lies and cheats for profit he's absolutely a fit person to be leader of the free world. And self admitted ' pussy grabbing I'd is just fining us women what we want.

Last time I looked this wasn’t something he is convicted of. So what you’re actually saying is guilty until proven innocent.

He's not exactly subtle about being a nonce. He bragged about deliberately walking in on girls changing at the pageant he bought.

Funnily enough it's difficult to get someone in court when his personal lawyer runs the DoJ. They fought tooth and nail to keep the Epstein files under wraps and even now have failed to release millions of entries. There's plenty of incriminating evidence among what they have released though.

Of course, Epstein was investigated in 2007 but yet another of Trump's lackeys got him a cushy plea deal. Now Ghislane Maxwell is sitting in a low-security prison being waited on hand and foot - she even gets a puppy. Keeps her from talking, I suppose.

If you don't want to look guilty, don't act like you've got so much to hide.

Come on then, given that you'll twist and turn so much to deflect from his behaviour, what is it about the fat orange incontinent paedo that you think is so great?

doodoodahdah · 03/04/2026 23:57

I'm in the US right now for a week. It's fine, everything is fine.

Things have definitely changed (we visit family regularly) but it's just normal life.
