So pissed off. Great neighbours moving because of weed smell *

We have some fantastic neighbours. The family have been there a couple of years now.

Just found out they're moving because the smell of skunk is so strong from their adjoining neighbour. We're terraced. We can smell it in ours so can imagine how bad it is there. It's stronger in the loft. I'm thinking they're growing?
They both rent and we own. I'm dreading who we get next as we've had some horrors in there. I want to move but to get somewhere hopefully quiet/decent will be expensive.

I hope they'll be happy where they go but am gutted. It's so unfair.

For a moment I thought you neighbours has a pet skunk! Sorry I know that is not helpful but it made me laugh.

I would be annoyed cant you report them ?

Manxexile · 30/03/2026 12:16

Has anybody dropped an anonymous "hint" to the police?

ie we believe there's a drug factory at [your neighbour's neighbour's house]

I believe there are anonymous crimestopper whistleblowing lines

This is what i thought!

That the OP must be in USA and their neighbour's neighbour had a "family" of skunks breeding in the loft!

Don't know why OPs can't be clearer about what they mean!

MrsMop2026 · 30/03/2026 12:18

If it’s coming through the walls/loft in the terraces, they are 100 % growing it. Ring the police.

SwanRivers · 30/03/2026 12:19

Weird how you just casually threw in there that you think they're growing.

If you actually think this, have you rang 101?

JumpinJehoshaphat · 30/03/2026 12:20

I thought/hoped it was ‘a’ skunk too.

I guess the smell must be intolerable.

DanaScullysLegoHair · 30/03/2026 12:21

That is really annoying, skunk is an awful smell.

I feel your/their pain. I have neighbours (not joined on) that smoke weed constantly and the stench permeates into everything. It is particularly awful when I am trying to sleep and have my window open just a tiny bit for fresh air, they'll light one up in their bedroom and the smoke drifts straight into my window. Unbearable in summer.

I bet their house just reeked of it constantly. I don't blame them at all.

Hopefully you'll get someone decent but I wonder how someone new will find the smell? Good luck finding somewhere new, OP!

KeeleyJ · 30/03/2026 12:22

Disappointed this isn't about Pepe Le Pew.

SonsRfab · 30/03/2026 12:23

I just said to dh about the growing. He said it'd be there all the time if they were. Good point. Why is it so strong it goes through to ours? There are walls between us ffs?

You can report the smell of weed from a neighbour in the uk as is smoking if you can smell it in your house from your neighbour. It all comes under nuisance. Have they been reported every time you can smell it ?

The same in our back bedroom. There's a lot of skunk smokers around here.

Don't get me started on being unable to hang washing! Another neighbour burns rubbish in his yard on sunny days. 😡

They had reported it afaik? But I'll message our local councillor as he's usually very good.

If you call the police and they’re raided which will ultimately get rid of said smell, then they may decide to stay after all!

The move is in motion. They're moving near to family. Such a shame.

Why on earth is that weird to assume that!? Unfortunately it does happen and is surprisingly quite common.

I'm starting to think we live on the same street. The very same weed smokers will light fires all the time on nice days and think nothing of firing up their BBQ when everyone has their washing out.

Some people are just thoughtless knobs.

Would you like to start a smoke-free commune? 🤣

There's been lots growing locally. Some huge ones too. But like dh just said it'd be there constantly. But it's so strong?

Obviously I’ve no clue of your financial circumstances and prices in your area etc, but if I was in your shoes, OP, I’d be at least looking at moving house. Though perhaps I’m just saying that as you say you live in a terrace and my own experience of living in a terrace was hell on earth 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes I'm in. Only have about 100k though will that do?

Not necessarily. I use grow lights for my veg seedlings in January-April and they switch off for periods of time to simulate night time and any plants which have a scent to them, are much less powerful when the lights are off.

That is perfect. I have several tents and some dented tins of chickpeas.

Yes I am looking to move. We're not getting any younger. Dh will be retired soon. Few more years for me. It's just finding somewhere within budget as we'd have to be cash buyers. We won't get a mortgage or would want one.

You quoted me and didn't even read it properly 😳

I didn't say it was weird to assume that, did I?

I said it was weird to throw it into the post so casually.
