Do you still have a ‘Hotmail’ email address

flagpolesitta · 28/03/2026 10:57

Keep seeing this mentioned on social media in videos or posts about being old 😳🤣
I have no plans to change my email but lots of people saying they hate giving their email address to people and having to say ‘@ hotmail.com’
I didn’t even realise new emails don’t still use this…

Yep me too and it's easy...just full name and hotmail.com

Yes , a co.uk one though , my brother still has the original .com from late 90s!

I think .com was going for quite a while later than the 90s, I wouldn't have set mine up until at least the mid 00s and it's .com.

I also have my even earlier one that I set up as a teen which is one of those cringey XxSillyBunny98Xx type ones, which I usually only use for stupid stuff like free trials or whatever, then every so often something goes wrong and I have to contact someone and cringe to death when they ask 'and can you confirm your email.' 😳

HootyMcBoobys · 28/03/2026 14:13

Stupid question but would you still receive the email if someone typed .co.uk at the end instead of .com?

I'm sure I get .yahoo.co.uk emails for my yahoo.com account and it works both ways but maybe I'm old and insane.

DeathBanana · 28/03/2026 14:14

I will not be shamed by these young upstarts. I think they’re stylishly retro.

I feel the same when I park my 17 year old faded Yaris next to the range rovers 😎

Yes, with my full name, no numbers/special characters, I'm that old 🤣

Me too!

I got a .com in about 2001 when I was working abroad with my full name, no numbers. I also have the co.uk one too which I use for shopping stuff

I had a me.com with my first apple mac but they go rid of it and I now have an iCloud

GlomOfNit · 28/03/2026 14:24

Yes, and it's the .com one (I didn't realise that makes it even older). I must have had it since late 90's and I don't care. I now have to pay for storage but that's ok, I had it free for decades. Grin

The only thing I cringe at is that it's a nickname one rather than my actual name.
But I still don't really care.

fuuuuckthis · 28/03/2026 14:25

@TakisI don't know if it's because I have an underscore before the @ but ryanair hates it, so does Spotify!

Schoolchoicesucks · 28/03/2026 14:26

I lost my hotmail address. My main one is yahoo. I do have a gmail as well but that's the one I give for spam and mailing lists.
Side partings, double spaced typing and hotmail/yahoo email adresses give away my age as much as my crows feet.

FredaFox · 28/03/2026 14:34

I find the joint emails more cringe than hotmail eg SarahAndAndy@xxxx get one each 🤣

Mummyoflittledragon · 28/03/2026 14:41

I also have a hotmail.com set up late 1990s. No plans to change it. I set it up with bloody underscore in it, which was the rage at the time…

This is news to me... what do you mean about side partings? Surely you part you hair the way is falls naturally? And what's the deal with double spaces. Do youngsters use single or 1.5?

Honestly most young people I know are not very computer literate at all. They only know how to consume. Obviously depends on the industry but I've often been surprised by teen DS or young colleagues at work being a bit clueless about admin.

Wishingplenty · 28/03/2026 15:09

I have a Yahoo account, I was told several months ago that it was old fashioned. How on earth can an email account be old fashioned? but there you are!

SerendipityJane · 28/03/2026 15:09

Losted · 28/03/2026 12:23

No, because I got locked out a few months ago due to "suspicious activity" and cannot recover the account despite answering all of their recovery questions correctly

Pain in the arse.

It's a perennial danger ... at the end of the day you don't own it.

Butchyrestingface · 28/03/2026 15:10

I have a Hotmail and Yahoo email account. I couldn't GAF what people think.

PyongyangKipperbang · 28/03/2026 15:11

Yep, had it since 1999!

ETA mine is .com too!

ZookeeperSE · 28/03/2026 15:15

Didn’t even realise this was a thing. But just googling shows that there’s a possibility some companies may use it to weed out applicants. Which, frankly, is a good thing because I very much doubt I’d want to work for a company that thought that was in any way relevant. I’ve been in tech for over thirty years, and I got my Hotmail.com account in 97, probably round about the time Microsoft bought them out. It’s how my huge number of contacts know how to get in touch with me so it won’t be changing any time soon. I’ve got others, including one for the IT company I current run with DH. DH who has been in tech from the very start of the ‘modern’ tech era in the 1970s and also has a Hotmail.com account, amongst others. He actually used to run a company called Internet in the 1970s, shame he didn’t think to protect that name somehow, could’ve made a fortune selling it 😁. We’ve moved forward continuously and are now working on AI solutions for imp/exp businesses and banks. So not really quaking about weird opinions of the, still wet behind the ears, tech bros of the last five minutes 😊

By "double spaces" they probably mean not line spacing, but that habit of typing two spaces between sentences.

I'm with you on the side partings 🤣

EarlofShrewsbury · 28/03/2026 15:31

Ohfudgeoff · 28/03/2026 11:05

Full maiden name for me. 😂

Mine is a shorted version of my maiden name, which is coincidentally also a slang term related to drugs.

It made sense when I was known by my maiden name. Now I'm married, it just looks like I really like drugs.

TulipsDaffsAndSunshine · 28/03/2026 15:34

Yahoo here. But they’re going to close soon! ☹️

Love a side parting!

mogtheexcellent · 28/03/2026 15:37

Yup although i had to add numbers as name was taken so went for the year i set it up.

Weirdly I managed to grab a hotmail.com one for DD using her real name and no numbers last year. She's one of a kind, clearly.

dontforgetme · 28/03/2026 15:41

Yes! A young (19,20 maybe) man in the bank laughed out loud at it a couple of weeks ago, said Hotmail is from the Stone Age. I’m only 33 for Christ sake 😂
