Do you still have a ‘Hotmail’ email address

Keep seeing this mentioned on social media in videos or posts about being old 😳🤣
I have no plans to change my email but lots of people saying they hate giving their email address to people and having to say ‘@ hotmail.com’
I didn’t even realise new emails don’t still use this…

It's not quite as bad as an AOL email address, which I actually saw recently!

Who cares, as long as it works. But not for job applications 😬

Woah there….my aol email is still my main one! Surely by now it’s retro cool?! I especially like it when I hear Destiny’s Child sing ‘have aol make my email stop’ 😁

Yahoo here. But they’re going to close soon! ☹️

Are they? I thought they were just charging for storage.

Mmmcheese89 · 28/03/2026 16:12

Yes.

Not wholly unusual first name, very common surname, year of birth at Hotmail. I do have a .co.uk though, not .com.

I do have the gmail.com with the same handle but use them for different things.

I'm not giving it up. I can never have it without my YoB even as there is just too many of us. There's even a me in Essex with a slightly more popular spelling of my first name who regularly gets my email. Thankfully she forwards it on and hasn't committed fraud (that I can see on my credit file).

Anyone got a blueyonder email address?

GeorginaWilby · 28/03/2026 16:26

I've had my hotmail email account since 1996. It's so simple, just my real name @hotmail. I've only changed my password once, and that was after 20 years. My old password was lol which now makes me lol. I have a few other email accounts now, but the hotmail is my main one still.

Anyone got a blueyonder email address?

or Telewest ?

muddyford · 28/03/2026 16:29

I've had mine since 2002. Can't see why I would want to change it. Mine is .co.uk not .com.

I've had mine since 2002. Can't see why I would want to change it. Mine is .co.uk not .com.

If Microsoft decided to charge for it (as well as training their AI on it) ?

Egypt500 · 28/03/2026 16:34

I’m so old my address is full name @ msn.com. Beat that!!

Serenity45 · 28/03/2026 16:39

Yep full name no numbers. Been married 12 years and still kept my original email address. Whenever I need to take an email at work I always inwardly smile if it's an OG one Grin

Was that from the time when Microsoft tried to convince the world that the internet was a waste of time and what you really needed was the MicroSoft Network ? When Netscape still ruled and you needed Trumpet Winsock to do your networking ?

Anyone else ntlworld? 👀

We had that a long time ago and also a virgin.net, before ntl wasn't there also mercury, I seem to recall our first internet connection, before broadband, was something quite strange.

DancingAtLunacy · 28/03/2026 17:07

Yes! I’ve had it since 1999 when I set it up to go backpacking, just my name at hotmail.com too. Will never, ever retire it, so many great memories from when it was my only way to communicate with my friends overseas, and keep in touch with new ones, although I mostly use gmail nowadays

SabrinaThwaite · 28/03/2026 17:07

FredaFox · 28/03/2026 14:34

I find the joint emails more cringe than hotmail eg SarahAndAndy@xxxx get one each 🤣

DH and I still have a joint hotmail.com email address from the1990s that we use for shared stuff.

We've both got our own Gmail accounts though, dating from the time when you had to be invited by another Gmail user to get one.

SerendipityJane · 28/03/2026 17:19

As an aside if anyone is fucking stupid enough to try and divine wisdom from someones email address, have they considered astrology ?

Summerhillsquare · 28/03/2026 17:22

xOlive · 28/03/2026 10:59

As if our skinny jeans and side partings weren’t enough of a giveaway, we now need to be self-conscious about our email addresses? 😂

Got a full house here - bingo 😁

I used to manage servers which hosted MSN.

I used to manage servers which hosted MSN.

For nearly 2 years, MSN messenger was my management portal to India ...

Lifewontbethesame · 28/03/2026 10:59

Yes, with my full name, no numbers/special characters, I'm that old 🤣

Same 😄

I set mine up in 1999 as my "personal" email and have no plans to change it.

linsey2581 · 28/03/2026 17:54

NormasArse · 28/03/2026 11:00

Me too! Set up in, I think 2001?

Me too.
had the option to change it to .co.uk when it came out but decided not too!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 28/03/2026 18:03

imip · 28/03/2026 11:34

My dc have just started teasing me for mine! I have my full name @hotmail.com. I set it up on about 1996/7? I feel pretty cool about it esp as it comes up to its 3rd decade of constant use!

I agree! I can’t see how haven’t had something at its inception isn’t a cool thing!

somethingerudite · 28/03/2026 18:04

My Hotmail username has the word temporary in it - set up in 1998 for a work trip - turned out not to be so temporary after all!

SerendipityJane · 28/03/2026 18:15

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 28/03/2026 18:03

I agree! I can’t see how haven’t had something at its inception isn’t a cool thing!

For a while, my name was in the KERMIT software archive dating back to 198mumble and is somewhere in an RFC mailing list from around then. It can make me a little less interested in hearing about the history of the internet from a 40 year old ....

Carpedimum · 28/03/2026 18:18

Several years ago I had to give an email address over the phone to a young man who laughed uproariously when I said ‘msn.com’ 🤨 between breathless sniggers he said, ‘msn? I remember that! old skooooolll!’ Reader, I have not changed it.
