Do you still have a ‘Hotmail’ email address

Keep seeing this mentioned on social media in videos or posts about being old 😳🤣
I have no plans to change my email but lots of people saying they hate giving their email address to people and having to say ‘@ hotmail.com’
I didn’t even realise new emails don’t still use this…

My Hotmail is my anonymous email address which I use for potential spammy stuff

Yes although I have multiple email addresses to take advantage of free trials but my main one of my hotmail one I created probably 25 years ago!

Its just my name and year of birth. I'm perfectly happy to be the age that I am and if hotmail didn't give that away, my year of birth would anyway!

Same and I'll never change 😆 . I've enough to be remembering without making a new email

ChillWith · 28/03/2026 11:28

Me! Use a Gmail address for CV though

TiredShadows · 28/03/2026 11:28

My DH does though mostly uses his mail.com account. Mine is yahoo.

I did have a younger colleague remark how he hadn't seen yahoo in ages. All I could do was chuckle at that.

All my kids (14-21) also have yahoo, because I set them up for them when they were about 8 (Year 3) so they could do typing club with their own accounts. None have yet been bothered to change them to my knowledge, though have gathered various school/college/work emails along the way. I now wonder if it'll make them look older 😄

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 28/03/2026 11:29

Yes! I have two!!

Thepeopleversuswork · 28/03/2026 11:30

Yep. Had it since the late nineties. I sometimes feel a bit self conscious if I’m in Zara or something like that and it marks me out as a bit of an old biddy.

I’m fucked if I can be arsed with the faff of changing it though and also its got emails in there from 20 years plus so its a bit like having my own archive!

Sartre · 28/03/2026 11:31

Nope mine is outlook, had it for at least 12 years. DH has Hotmail!

floppybit · 28/03/2026 11:31

I have a @hotmail.com email address, I think from late 90s!

EBearhug · 28/03/2026 11:33

Yes. It's the main one I use for dating and potential spam-generating stuff. I have another for personal stuff and friends, and another for official stuff like job hunting and buying things. (I also have a work email address, and a school one for voluntary stuff.) Another reason to use different providers is so I'm not 100% reliant on any one, same way as I like to have at least one Visa and one Mastercard.

I don't like single points of failure, it seems...

8943paula · 28/03/2026 11:33

Yes I do and I remember a few years ago reading that it looks unprofessional on a CV 😂 I won’t part with it though because a) I have [email protected] so I like it b) it would be a ballache to change.

cardibach · 28/03/2026 11:33

Yes, proper dot com one. As others have said it doesn’t embarrass me that it’s an old address. It demonstrates to the youth that I’ve been using tech far longer than they have. It makes me feel quite special and experienced to be honest!

I don’t understand- what do new email addresses use?
What’s wrong with Hotmail?!

imip · 28/03/2026 11:34

My dc have just started teasing me for mine! I have my full name @hotmail.com. I set it up on about 1996/7? I feel pretty cool about it esp as it comes up to its 3rd decade of constant use!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 28/03/2026 11:34

I loved my Hotmail email address! But it got hacked and no amount of tech wizardry was going to get it back, so I had to let it go and move on. Gutted. I now have numbers with my name which I never had before. Sigh.

8943paula · 28/03/2026 11:35

I set mine up in 2010, I didn’t realise I had such an unusual name to be able to set up a hotmail with my full name and no numbers so much later than everyone else!

5to5 · 28/03/2026 11:35

Mine is yahoo

Andepeda · 28/03/2026 11:36

I'm so old I don't even know what Hotmail is.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 28/03/2026 11:36

Yes but it’s masked as outlook under my married name. Like PP’s though, it’s a very pure address - Initial Initial Surname - no chance of that anywhere else now

Balloonhearts · 28/03/2026 11:37

Yep. An original .com one with my last name and first initial. No numbers.

SerendipityJane · 28/03/2026 11:38

My first ever email address was .ac.uk in 198x

Auroraloves · 28/03/2026 11:41

Yes, it’s even in my maiden name that’s how old it is

LadyOfLymeHouse · 28/03/2026 11:42

Lifewontbethesame · 28/03/2026 10:59

Yes, with my full name, no numbers/special characters, I'm that old 🤣

Me too 😆

lurkingfromhome · 28/03/2026 11:42

Yup, full (maiden) name and hotmail.com and it's the only email address I've ever had apart from work ones. I couldn't face changing it when gmail came along and now I'm old enough not to care.

ToadRage · 28/03/2026 11:42

Until a few years ago when I got married I was using the same totally random hotmail one I'd used throughout my teens and twenties. When shops started asking for email addresses rather than giving paper receipts, I'd always get a little chuckle. I now use protonmail with a much more professional sounding name, but at the time i opened the hotmail one i was 15 and wanted something totally random.

Me too! Set up in, I think 2001?

2004, in my case 😎Set up at a computer I had to queue up for at uni 😅
