Do you still have a ‘Hotmail’ email address

flagpolesitta · 28/03/2026 10:57

Keep seeing this mentioned on social media in videos or posts about being old 😳🤣
I have no plans to change my email but lots of people saying they hate giving their email address to people and having to say ‘@ hotmail.com’
I didn’t even realise new emails don’t still use this…

Yes, with my full name, no numbers/special characters, I'm that old 🤣

Same!

hellotojason · 28/03/2026 12:20

Another [email protected] here - at least I upgraded from my first Hotmail account where my late teen self thought I was funny including a 69 in the email address....

If you claim to work in IT, but aren't rocking your own domain, it raises eyebrows.

Nah. Some of the traffic on my non-work addresses has definitely been NSFW. Never asked them, but I suspect they appreciate the separation of duties.

Piknik · 28/03/2026 12:20

I've got an OG aol one. Just my namesurname. No numbers, no hyphens, no underscores. I also have a .live which is nearly as old as Hotmail but I mostly use my aol (along with my original Mercury One2One phone number).

Losted · 28/03/2026 12:23

No, because I got locked out a few months ago due to "suspicious activity" and cannot recover the account despite answering all of their recovery questions correctly

Pain in the arse.

Yes I do and I remember a few years ago reading that it looks unprofessional on a CV 😂 I won’t part with it though because a) I have [email protected] so I like it b) it would be a ballache to change.

why is it unprofessional?

I have two - full name @hotmail.co.ukand embarrassing nickname at .com

FussyFancyDragon · 28/03/2026 12:26

I’ve still got Hotmail and aol 😬 I’ve got a gmail one, but I always think it sounds like a spam email.

Bromptotoo · 28/03/2026 12:27

forename.surname at hotmail.co.uk set up c2009.

Simple and it works.

Me too 😀 I'm very attached to my hotmail address.

No hotmail but do have a 'catchy phrase' yahoo address instead of my name from the 90s... mostly use my gmail now which is my initials and name but yahoo one still used.

Next they'll be asking if you ever used the 'Ask Jeeves' search engine! 🤣

I see your Ask Jeeves and raise you HotBot…

JudgeJ · 28/03/2026 12:35

hazelberry · 28/03/2026 11:01

Yes. It's not my only email address though. I like having an 'old' hotmail address though.

I'm the same, I have several hotmail, yahoo and gmail addresses! Back in the olden days when Hotel Chocolat did Chocolate Club boxes with the first costing about £6 I created a number of email addresses so I could get them a number of time, similarly other one time offers. Does that make me old? At 78, should I give a damn???

booksnbaking · 28/03/2026 12:34

I raise you both with Encyclopedia Britannica, definitely hard copy and a tattered Roget's Thesaurus.

Svolvaer · 28/03/2026 12:37

I like mine. I’m one of the originals, I even like that mine’s .com rather than .co.uk

Musicaltheatremum · 28/03/2026 12:37

My husband does. He's 67!!

fuuuuckthis · 28/03/2026 12:39

Hotmail.com from 1995 and still in use as my main email address 🤣
As a pp said, I have found some places don't accept it, so i grudgingly have a Gmail back up

ChaToilLeam · 28/03/2026 12:40

I have a hotmail.com of late 90s vintage. Don't care if it makes me look old! I think it rather marks me out as an early adopter. 😉

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 28/03/2026 12:40

I did once have one, but can't remember when I stopped using it - I think I had login problems so opened up a Yahoo one instead. This being over 20 years ago. It may still be in existence, no idea!

What places out of interest as I haven’t found anywhere that doesnt accept it?

welshpolarbear · 28/03/2026 12:43

Yes, I have a Hotmail.com and a hotmail.co.uk both in my full name! Ha ha.

ChessieFL · 28/03/2026 12:45

Full name dot com here too. Still in my maiden name - every so often I think I should upgrade but I really can’t be arsed with the hassle of working out how to set up a new email address, how to add it to my phone, and then updating all the accounts I’ve got with the new email. I’ve had it since about 1997 and it’s part of me now.

I’ve also had the same mobile number for at least 20 years.

I did read somewhere (no idea if it’s true) that some companies price higher for customers with a Hotmail address - because it shows we’re set in our ways and less likely to change things, so they take the gamble we won’t move and will just suck up the higher prices.

booksnbaking · 28/03/2026 12:47

JudgeJ · 28/03/2026 12:37

I raise you both with Encyclopedia Britannica, definitely hard copy and a tattered Roget's Thesaurus.

I have three copies of Roget’s in various stages of disintegration; the older editions are the best. Yes to Britannica! And a 3-volume Webster’s from the 80s.

Do you remember when Microsoft brought out Encarta on a CD? Gobsmacking.

Callipygion · 28/03/2026 12:50

I’ve a hotmail.com one too. I didn’t realise it was now naff. I was just thinking the other day how lost I’d be if they stopped providing that service, everything is linked to it.

Namechangerage · 28/03/2026 12:51

flagpolesitta · 28/03/2026 12:24

why is it unprofessional?

Not unprofessional but a bit out of touch. I work in marketing and I just wouldn’t ever use an hotmail address. Switched to gmail in 2015ish. I still have access to my hotmail and use it for things like Vinted where you get millions of emails.

imip · 28/03/2026 12:51

In the same vein, I have a four letter Mumsnet user name, which I think you haven’t been able to do for a while!
