Is it a war? I think the US were a bit confused about whether they could call it that.

Good point - maybe I should have said 'attack'.

I wonder if people realise that , despite not being involved, we will pay for this war. There is a big inflation wave coming, apparently.

The price of oil and gas has, very predictably, risen a lot already.
That's certainly not a good reason for the UK (or any other country) to get involved in this war.

Wild, same here. Never thought I would think Starmer is doing a good job.

Do read the posts, I'm not a senior politician no. It was apparently my dreadful sentence construction that lead a pp to think so. It was clarified earlier.

An illegal war. Says who? They are state sponsors of terrorism. Yes we should have supported the US ans Israel from the word go.

Of course it is illegal. This attack (and many others) is completely contravenes international law. At least, prior to attacking Iraq, Blair, etc tried to pretend that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and consulted parliament. History hasn't exactly been kind to Blair on this has it?

What, sitting on the fence making an absolute tit of himself? Not to mention Lammy who thinks Cyrpus is in Nato. We are being led by dumb and dumber.

The war is costing the US more than $890m per day

He’s doing a good job now by letting the US use our airbases.

SerendipityJane · 07/03/2026 15:29

Anyone else imagine transcripts of MN threads being cited in the UN as proof that the US and Israel are acting legally ?

No, me neither.

It’s another good reason not to get involved.

In all the research I have done, chatbots have zero sense of humour.

I see the Iranian ambassador to the UK skipped his lessons on history, and possibly has too much time on his hands.

Can anyone on this thread remember the last time threats - veiled* or otherwise - have ever actually worked on the UK ?

*"Very droll minister, but possibly a better phrase would be 'not matter how worded' ?"

Trump's latest comment is absolutely scathing. "The United Kingdom, our once Great Ally, maybe the Greatest of them all, is finally giving serious thought to sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East. That’s OK, Prime Minister Starmer, we don’t need them any longer — But we will remember. We don’t need people that join Wars after we’ve already won!"

What an utter embarrassment Starmer is.

It's embarrassing that he is considering joining in Israel's and the US's war.
Now this is truly embarrassing. The man is (behaving like) a raving lunatic. I thought it was the Iranian regime that was intent on killing Iranians. No, not so according to Trump and Hegseth.

No hun pop the news on, lots of updates.

The point being Sir Wet Starmer and his 3 weeks later ship isn't required and his lack of support for our allies was noted and shit to say the least.

Notonthestairs · 08/03/2026 09:17

But Trump says our armed forces hang about at the back - so why should he want the UK there?

Gawd, the same people who thought Zelensky deserved to be attacked for not wearing a suit, think Trump is a reliable & trustworthy ally.

He’s threatened trade negotiations with UK umpteen times, introduced tariffs on a whim, insulted our armed forces, insulted NATO, threatened Greenland & Denmark, got the hump over the bloody Nobel Prize (and insulted Norway along the way), invaded Venezuela for oil, threatened Cuba, and on and on and on.

That would be such a surprise right?!

Sadly, I don't see anything that makes me think that this war is anywhere near being over. DJT is in a bad position whatever he does now as the regime has not collapsed immediately. He either negotiates with the Iranians and tries to reach an agreement before pulling out (essentially, he fails entirely and looks like a weak fool) or he will probably need to put US troops on the ground, which the US voters are hugely against (the great majority are already totally against his invasion already and he has Mid Terms this year).
I would love to be wrong because this war is already having devastating effects, which will magnify the longer it continues.

@PandoraSocks's sarcasm went over your head.

The point is that Trump mostly talks nonsense. The war is not over.

Many people are still calling the US a UK ally.
