You rather miss the point.

The UK was dragged into a needless war based on fairy stories of "Weapons of mass destruction". Stories we were promised - in the blood of our soldiers - were true.

Only turns out they were so many lies.

Fool me once etc etc.

A couple of questions

Whilst not supporting direct UK involvement in the attacks on Iran, would you support the US action based on the recent attempted terrorist attacks by Iran against the UK?
(as a side note due to defence cuts there isn't the capability for the UK to get directly involved even if we wanted to).

I fully understand (and agree with) that following the Iraq war, you are sceptical of the US administration's claim of that Iran is developing nuclear weapons. Would it make any difference to your opinion if say the UN through the International Atomic Energy Agency also made this claim or suggestion?

Those are the motives that Trump himself stated. Now of course he may have different motives next week and the week after. But those are the motives he stated this week and what we have to assume for the moment.

According to KKKaroline, Trump is going by gut feelings rather than intel.

If he was anyone else someone would have removed grandad's car keys by now.

Just to be clear, are you talking about the attacks after the US action ? Or are you referencing ones before /

Unlike some, I'm not in a rush to commit resources on misunderstandings.

Why do you call her that? Do you not realise how incredibly offensive it is to refer to the 'KKK' at all, nevermind use it as a slur to attack a woman?

I really doubt they are going to reveal their intelligence regarding national security.

Well no sadly he is the PM so I'm interested in wtf he has to say. I just wish he had some public speaking training he looks so nervy and hopeless.

And what did you make of what he had to say?

He is still talking, better to wait for the press conference to finish

We have 5 type 45s, 3 are not operational, only Dragon is available but the RN hasn't armed it.
Thats a Navy preparation issue, Starmer doesn't run and Navy - as much as you Daily Express readers think he does.

Why did the Tories cut frigate numbers from 13 in 2010 to 9 in 2024??? and leave us so exposed.... the 'tories along with yourself, want lower taxes but better defence - though the Tories did go into the last GE primising to cut defence even further....

Doubtless all Starmers fault too.....

US/Iran were engaged in high level talks, no one thought war was about to happen, the US kept UK in the dark (or they didn't know themselves) until Israel gave them a few hours warning - evidence for this is the US is running out of weapons in the region & not seeking to use joint bases until after conflict started.

People like you, just like Trump, are all too eager to end other peoples lives but wont risk your own or family in a war.

If only there was a word to describe that?

In terms of guided missile destroyer (more relevant here than ASW frigates) numbers though, that goes back to Blair/Brown. After the two losses in the Falklands, we had 12 Type 42s left by the turn of the millennium. Originally the Type 45 order was to be 12 ships, but that got cut back to 8 in 2004 and 6 in 2008.

& that was stupid but the order could have been increased at a later date, 2004 and 2008 were different times, once we got to 2014, it was clear Russia was no longer interested in "peace" with the West.

They have had some pretty severe problems with the T45, not least a loss of propulsion.

Pretty hard to put radar and missile defences in the middle of the sea without a boat.

Why would you need to put them in the middle of the sea? Air bases are on land, unless they are carriers.

?

Er because you want to intercept before it gets to the end of the runway?

T45 has a huge radar range, big bubble that sits in the Med.

This. Utterly cringeworthy and useless display by wet wibbly Starmer.
You support your allies, we'd soon go running to the US if we needed them.

Because going into Iraq for them turned out to be such a good idea...

The US has done nothing but talk shit about us for the last year. Some ally. When did they last help us out?

The ones before. The attacks on Akrotiri could be seen as a consequence of the US attacks on Iran.

She isn't in 'the KKK' and it's a pretty sick thing to say. Makes a change from nazi I s'pose which is often excitedly flung about on here.

He didn’t come across like that to me. He seemed quite clear. I have sometimes thought that he changes with the wind but I thought he handled it well. I just hope he stays consistent and doesn’t start to give in to pressure.

BIossomtoes · 05/03/2026 22:22

He looked like a man in control to me. It’s like some people were watching completely different pressers.

DeepBlueDeer · 05/03/2026 22:39

Although it makes good geopolitical sense to do so, given our continued (hopefully now lessening) reliance on the US for many aspects of our national security, sending British troops to assist a country whose current leadership has made repeated false, disparaging and dismissive comments about the sacrifices of British troops made in support of the US in other recent conflicts, is an extremely bitter pill to swallow.

Half-measures are probably the best and most appropriate course in the circumstances.

I saw that too from 'K'. Absolutely insane. Too many psychopaths in charge, sadly.

Well we obviously interpret body language very differently. He looks so fake and out of his depth. His awkward little hand waves adding to it all.
