They helped in Ukraine! They sent billions. They can't keep doing it forever and at some point Ukraine and Russia need to sort it out themselves.

I'm not a 'complete foolish Trump Fangirl' thanks. Of course they would have assisted the UK probably still will but will make crap public speaker Starmer whistle for it first.

Well we obviously interpret body language very differently. He looks so fake and out of his depth. His awkward little hand waves adding to it all.

Let’s face it if he was the greatest orator of all time you’d be picking holes. You probably thought Johnson’s theatrical performances were admirable.

You're naive if you believe that Russia is only engaged in a war against Ukraine.

SinnerBoy · 06/03/2026 08:16

It's not the Age of Roosevelt, either. Trump hasn't the self awareness to realise that.

Well by definition, that's obviously a nonsense statement.

So your issue is with how he says things rather than with what he says?

If he was the greatest orator of all times I wouldn't be saying he is a crap public speaker would I Confused.

He needs some media training, a vocal coach and a body language advisor to stop the funny little hand gestures.

I'm not sure it's me that needs to grow up. You are posting all sorts of nonsense and clearly can't deal with being called out.

You’ve not called out one thing with a single piece of evidence.

whereas I have evidenced as much as I can - can always give more.

don’t shed any tears over a theocratic dictatorship who’s killed millions in just heals couple of years.

Everytime KS opens his mouth he makes a fool of himself. For example, I'm not that bothered about what Macron does but his body language and how he communicates looks impressive, he looks and acts important. Starmer looks like he's about to burst into tears and for a leader it is not a good look.

Image counts, yes content of course is important but that is also very questionable. Google his ratings, it isn't just me saying he's hopeless.

SinnerBoy · 06/03/2026 08:32

LadyVioletBridgerton · 03/03/2026 20:05

I’m even more of a Trump fan after the decisive action he’s taken. I’m even less of a Keir Starmer fan after his disgraceful behaviour. He had the French send a ship to defend our base whilst he was still dithering!! Yes, we’ve got one on the way now, but why the hesitation?

Decisive action - an illegal war, you mean. As for the support ship, it cannot teleport there in a second, can it, for goodness sake! The French ship was hours away, they are allies and we work together.

Wow.

What do you actually think is happening in Ukraine?
Saying sort it out themselves is ridiculous.

Ukraine has been invaded by hostile forces.
Ukraine is defending itself and trying to keep its people and land from the invaders.
Trump has actively sided with the aggressor against the victim.
Trump has withdrawn support from the victim.

America failed to fulfill it's obligations to defend Ukraine after they had given up their nuclear deterrent, it has attacked and threatened Denmark. America is not longer an ally and if anyone thinks they are, then they are a fool.

Boomer55 · 06/03/2026 08:36

Seeing Starmer as positive compared to Trump is a very low bar. 🤷‍♀️

We're not talking about a "support ship", as in one of the Royal Fleet Auxilaries", the problem here is despite the probable US actions being telegraphed for weeks the UK had no warship even close to being in theatre, not even in the naval base at Gib.

Whichever way you cut it that is a major failing of the current government and also at least in part consequence of the actions of previous administrations.

I don't think he looks as if he's about to burst into tears. Nor do I think he does silly hand gestures or makes a fool of himself. I think he sounds measured and rational and looks calm. I'm relieved we've got an intelligent PM who takes things seriously and isn't all about theatrics and scoring points.

I think if the definition of being intelligent and taking things seriously is not reacting to events until absolutely pushed just in case it frightens or upsets a portion of the population you may have a point.

TBH just sometimes a bit of leadership might o
not be a bad thing...

He is standing up to Trump, how is he not showing leadership?

I remain fascinated - and scared - by the number of people who assume - despite all evidence to the contrary - that everything made public when the UK is engaged in hostilities is the gospel truth. Let's hope the Iranians are as credulous. However rather unsportingly I think they would prefer their own intelligence.

The bottom line is no one- especially not the BBC - has the faintest idea what the whole picture is.

It's quite telling the number of posters people who appear to think that military action has to involve big ships and guns and planes or it doesn't count. It's a very masculine trait I find. But it does deflect from asking questions about what the fuck the US thinks it is doing.

notimagain · 06/03/2026 09:49

There are far more reliable sources than the BBC and you have to give credit to those who have been around a bit and know what is vaguely possible in the way of subtle deception and what isn't.

For example these days some ship disposition and to some degree aircraft disposition is in the public domain via multiple sources.

You may be able to hide a sub, you can't hide the rough whereabouts of a guided missile destroyer or frigate, especially when pretty much your whole inventory is very publically in port/dry dock.

Oh quite - has someone told the military ?

Britain has never been able - or required - to do military like other countries. Something about being an island and unable to field continental armies. A doctrine which goes back to ... well Elizabeth I, I'd guess. It took the resources of Empire to assist in Germanys defeat.

Also - and it may be a shock to some. What the UK does or does not do is irrelevant (much like all of our views). I will personally guarantee that the only concern of the MoD is what the Iranians believe. Because that is who they are up against. Not AIBU (although I imagine they'd rather take on Iran).

Requisitioning a cruise liner doesn’t really cut it this time.

True but in the case of 82 you do know that the 82 Task Force was a bit more than a couple.of cruise liners.

@SerendipityJane

Oh quite - has someone told the military ?

Yup, in many cases they know it's now close to impossible to hide asset movement or lack thereof (certainly not for long) from onlookers, what they've had to do is get better at hiding intent of any movement

Basically the mil (certainly the US) often play much more of a shell game than of old, accepting the shells really are visible.
