To think the test must be wrong

I am in a state of hysteria here. I am in the peri and on HRT. We haven’t been particularly careful because I didn’t think I needed to be.

Have been feeling tired, off colour and have had ridiculously sore boobs. Have just had a positive test.

Can the HRT hormones somehow affect the outcome of the test?! This is the hope I am clinging on to.

Anyone?

You do realise OP said “we haven’t been particularly careful” which negates your entire lecture?

The issue here is abortion as contraception, not abortion in terribly unfortunate situations.

Just because the OP and her partner weren’t using contraception doesn’t give you the right to sprout your unsupportive bullshit.

Hope that helps.

It’s not that I don’t know, it’s that I don’t care.

I am pro CHOICE, and nothing you say will change that.

You can definitely book in for an early scan (as there is potential that your more then 8 weeks given your last period dates).
I would also however contact your family planning clinic to discuss/assess further.

To those people attacking me, I hope you never make a mistake. I have never heard of anyone my age having a baby / getting pregnant and my peri symptoms had been sufficient enough to make me think I was safe. My youngest boys are in reception, I was starting to get my life back.

My understanding is, until you’ve reached menopause (periods have stopped for at least 12 months) you can get pregnant. Peri menopause is leading up to that change and can last for years. HRT relieves symptoms caused from Peri Menopause. It certainly isn’t a contraception.

Here we go with the hyperbolic bullshit. “The whole world”? Who here is cheering?

I see most of your comments have been deleted by MN, maybe reflect on why that may be.

I’m never trusting the coil again. I had an ultrasound for some gynae symptoms. One of the findings, unrelated to the symptoms was that my coil was displaced and no longer effective. Very stressful Christmas for me with pregnancy symptoms. Apparently lifting heavy objects can displace the coil. Quick tip home health pregnancy tests on Amazon are about 20p each, are the same as they use in the NHS and come in discreet packaging.

SunsetValley · 16/02/2026 21:29

Is it a strong positive or are you worrying hence thinking there’s a line? I don’t blame you for thinking you couldn’t get pregnant at 49.

Teenagehorrorbag · 16/02/2026 21:29

Hi OP. I had IVF and around 6 weeks I saw some blood, and the EPAC scanned me then. Told me I had two healthy heartbeats...🙂

I don't know if they would scan you just to find out if you are pregnant, but they certainly have the capability. I would definitely ask, the sooner you know for sure the better.

Good luck whatever happens.

You deserve to have your life back. If you are pregnant, you can end it. Ignore the troll on here.

Mistakes happen, that's life and no one is perfect, including you.

And stop saying women are using terminations as contraception. Very few women do this and for most it's an extremely difficult decision to make and such narrow minded opinions are far from productive.

Maybe try having a little empathy for the op.

Ignore them OP. It was a mistake. We all make them. All the people saying well I knew or you should have known are not helpful in the slightest. You posting might prevent someone else making the same mistake. I know that doesn’t help you. I hope everything works out OK for you. You got this whatever you decide.

OP please try and shut out some of the noise on here (I've also reported some of the posts as frankly it's aggressive and not needed in the slightest).

Make a plan for who to call tomorrow and find out either way and you can go from there with information.

Sending hugs on what is a clearly a unsettling time for you.

runningonberocca · 16/02/2026 21:34

HRT won’t give a positive pregnancy test. Perimenopause can be a more fertile period that expected - body’s last ditch effort to get pregnant. Go to your GP - get the pregnancy confirmed and then make whatever the right decision for you and your family is

Please take absolutely no notice of the narrow minded and ignorant ‘pro-lifers’ on here OP. 💐❤️

None of us on this earth are perfect. Mistakes happen. Please do not beat yourself up over this. You are a human being!

Unfortunately you weren’t careful. So unfortunately you need to face the consequences and make some decisions which aren’t straightforward or easy. You’re not the first and you certainly won’t be the last.

The forum “Pregnancy Choices” on here might be more beneficial and will have lots and lots of ladies in similar circumstances.

Do what’s best for you and your family. Do not let the vile words of judgemental people on here make you feel any type of way.

hoodiemassive · 16/02/2026 21:35

Sending you hugs op - try and shut out the noise and just focus on what you want, you have choices, it’s your body.xx

Getting pregnant and carrying a healthy baby to term in your 50s is incredibly rare

well that’s what they said

I’m not talking about here

BackToTheFuture9 · 16/02/2026 21:36

OP I was in your exact boat about 6 months ago, except my children are a little older.
I had every range of emotion under the sun, mostly absolute disbelief. I kept forgetting I was pregnant and then suddenly remembering and being deeply shocked all over again.
After what seemed like an eternity, nature took its course and my decision and choice was removed. Which led to even more shock.

Be kind to yourself. You have time. sending best wishes.

FreshInks · 16/02/2026 21:36

You have done nothing wrong, OP so don’t listen to any person on here who claims otherwise.

chillidoritto · 16/02/2026 16:38

PS I am nearly 49 ffs

Cameron Diaz had her second child at 51 in 2024.

Until you’re fully through the change you can get pregnant, age of person is irrelevant.
