To think the test must be wrong

chillidoritto · 16/02/2026 16:37

I am in a state of hysteria here. I am in the peri and on HRT. We haven’t been particularly careful because I didn’t think I needed to be.

Have been feeling tired, off colour and have had ridiculously sore boobs. Have just had a positive test.

Can the HRT hormones somehow affect the outcome of the test?! This is the hope I am clinging on to.

Anyone?

Would it be so bad to have a baby?

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain

AT 49?!

Also, the OP has made it clear that she cannot have another baby! And she already has 5!

Cameron Diaz had her second child at 51 in 2024.

Until you’re fully through the change you can get pregnant, age of person is irrelevant.

Cameron Diaz used a surrogate.

Freda69 · 16/02/2026 21:40

Please ignore all the horrible judgmental people on here. It’s your body and your life - do whatever feels best for you. Hugs.

pastaish · 16/02/2026 21:41

I'm sure I read something the other day that you are more prone to false positives during perimenopause, but I can't remember any details as I didn't give it much notice. A GP should be able to tell from a physical exam if you are pregnant or not.

'Change of life babies' used to be a thing, when the woman thought she was safe and she wasn't yet. My grandmother had a baby at your age.

All the best with it OP. I hope you get the result you want here.

User0311 · 16/02/2026 21:41

Sending love OP. 💐

PleaseStopEatingMyStuff · 16/02/2026 21:44

I'm sorry OP. You sound so stressed. I hope you can get everything sorted quickly with your GP. Good luck.

Coffeeandbooks88 · 16/02/2026 21:44

Sorry I doubt it is wrong. Luckily you do have options. Ignore all the pro lifers who slime their way onto this thread.

I’m so sorry but your hormones can have a “last hurrah” right at the end, making you extremely fertile for a brief window.

This doesn’t mean you have to have a baby, or that you are going to have a baby - rates of miscarriage are extremely high in this age group. But it would be a good idea to speak to someone about your options.

That's not true.

At around 40-41 years old, some women get a strong feeling of broodiness as they know their fertile days are numbered, but it's not true that women suddenly get a brief window of time (in their late 40s) when they are 'extremely fertile' as your post implies!

Oh! Thanks for the info.

Delphiniumandlupins · 16/02/2026 21:46

Try not to worry. You have plenty time to make a decision if you are pregnant. Consider how another baby will impact your whole family. You've been a bit careless and (possibly) very unlucky. I think most of us have made mistakes at some time.

TheAutumnCrow · 16/02/2026 21:46

chillidoritto · 16/02/2026 21:27

To those people attacking me, I hope you never make a mistake. I have never heard of anyone my age having a baby / getting pregnant and my peri symptoms had been sufficient enough to make me think I was safe. My youngest boys are in reception, I was starting to get my life back.

Please ignore the idiots, OP. Something like 40-45% of women in this country will terminate a pregnancy for very good reasons during their lifetime. Lots of us on here have needed these services.

At 50 years of age, the clinic is going to be very supportive of you, and sympathetic to your circumstances around timing, so please do seek assistance as soon as possible. Best wishes Flowers

xOlive · 16/02/2026 21:47

Ah OP, I’m sorry you’re in a situation you don’t want to be in 💛 especially involving a pregnancy. I hope you have confirmation it is a false positive.
If it is a positive, do what is best for you!
You have 5 children, you’re 49, it is absolutely okay for you to choose not to continue the pregnancy. x

FryingPam · 16/02/2026 21:47

OP, try not to panic. You have options, and at your age, there is a high chance that you don’t need to decide to abort because early miscarriages are the most common outcome.

Castlespring · 16/02/2026 21:48

OP don't listen to people on here who aren't living your life.
You need to make a decision that is right for you. X

Muffsies · 16/02/2026 21:52

I'm 48, on HRT, with irregular periods. 2 weeks ago i had really sore breasts, just like in early pregnancy, i even had feelings of nausea exactly like morning sickness. If it hadn't have been for the fact that i've had a sterilisation (well, two actually, but that's another story) i wouldv'e been CONVINCED i was pregnant.. I wasn't (tfft), but i had the mother of all periods afterwards. I'm now really curious if i would've got a positive test, it was just like early pregnancy.

Hopefully, this is a hormonal blip caused by peri. Got everything crossed for you that it all works out 🤞🤞🤞

Motherofalittledragon · 16/02/2026 21:53

Christ there’s some judgemental shites on here tonight.

Would it be so bad to have a baby?

Not helpful. Its the ops body so her choice. You have no right to judge her or anyone.

AdarajamesAgain · 16/02/2026 21:53

You make the decisions that suit you and your life and sod the ignorant idiots who try to preach to you!

I was surprised to find that having HRT has been the first time I've had anything approaching a regular cycle! Very light bleeding, but definitely an almost monthly cycle, so assumed I could also get pregnant if I were having unprotected sex with a male, although being lesbian meant this wasn't likely thankfully, at 53 and disabled that would certainly not be a good situation to find myself in! Hugs to you OP, you can get your life back and don't feel in the least bit guilty for any decisions you make to allow you to do so.

Coffeeandbooks88 · 16/02/2026 21:53

hazelnutvanillalatte · 16/02/2026 18:50

@chillidoritto I have heard of hormonal conditions like PCOS causing false positives so please try not to panic and get to the GP to make sure, because it might not be what you think

False ovulation hormones yes but not HCG.

Duffybearblue · 16/02/2026 21:58

My mom was 49 and a half when she had me, my eldest sibling is 31 years older than me, I have nephews and nieces older than me.
Growing up almost everyone thought my mom and dad were my grandparents.
My parents were great but they were both tired by the time they had me and that meant we didn't do that much when I was a child.
The worst part is that I was only a teenager when I lost my dad, and 30 when I lost my mom. I miss them a lot, especially my mom.
Just thought I would let you know what it was like being the child of older parents.
It's entirely up to you what you choose to do, it's your body, your choice.

Make the decision that is right for you, and do not let others pull you down

StasisMom · 16/02/2026 22:01

Op this is absolutely a time when you put yourself first, unusual for mums I know! You know exactly what a baby would entail and you alone know if you could cope. I’m not hugely pro abortion but I absolutely would if I were you now. And yes, ignore the judgement, it seems to be sport for some posters. Take care.

well that’s what they said

I’m not talking about here

Women in Eastern Europe are not biologically different than women here. Whoever told you that is wrong.
