Is this too big a portion?

Context that my dad said he couldn’t believe I was eating “all that”
don’t judge the oven food, it’s Thursday and I’m tired!

You did start it. And I’m not the one who cant understand that people do things differently. It seems to be tricky for you.

Nope, understand it perfectly.

Just find it ridiculous. Luckily it's a free world and we're all allowed our opinions!

Is that nice to eat? Genuinely wondering.

Depends if you like the components that make it up, I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

HUNGRY4MORE · 05/02/2026 19:59

@fishfingergate Your dad's is the one with lamb on the patterned plate...that's my guess, anyway.

Thesnailonthewhale · 05/02/2026 19:59

It's barely enough for a child.

Exactly - I had bigger portions than that at primary school.

Two fish fingers indeed, lol.

I mean it’s edible. I would prefer freshly cooked veg and a meal someone else had made for me but here we are!
I didn’t eat all the fish fingers in the end as the cat demanded one

Depends on a few things. Have you just had a workout? Are you on day 1 or 2 of your period? Are you cold? All this sort of stuff makes me need more food.

If no to any of the above, then it might be a little much for me, but it isn't so much that anyone should be gasping and asking if you're "eating all that??"

Thesnailonthewhale · 05/02/2026 20:01

Mumwithbaggage · 05/02/2026 19:52

I normally just have the one fish finger. With lots and lots of steamed broccoli and some salad with light dressing.

Why even bother with the fish finger?

Imdunfer · 05/02/2026 20:01

fishfingergate · 05/02/2026 19:57

I did them in the air fryer, no added oil
overweight, 5ft 11
weight is down to a few things including inability to exercise post op for a while and a fucked thyroid but always hungry. Can’t do WLI

They are already fried when you buy them aren't they?

If you are overweight then that's probably too big a portion, yes, though I understand the difficulties, and possibly unwise choices.

Waterwatereverywhere2026 · 05/02/2026 20:01

I’d eat that for dinner, no problems. I’m not keen on fish fingers but I do like breaded frozen haddock (weird I know, they are basically the same) so I’d have a chunky bit of breaded haddock. It’s not a lot of volume or calories?
I have a healthy bmi.

Isobel201 · 05/02/2026 20:01

I wouldn't have as many of the fries, but probably max three fish fingers and veg (minus the sweetcorn, I don't like sweetcorn x)

Lourdes12 · 05/02/2026 20:01

That’s a huge portion to me. I would only eat half of that

fishfingergate · 05/02/2026 20:01

I’m cold all the time as work is cold and have an under active thyroid! No periods, no workout tonight

I would probably have 3 fish fingers not 5, but I'd have pretty much all of the rest, and I'm not a huge eater. That's not a massive amount of food.

How rude to comment on what you're eating. I HATE people who do that.

plsdontlookatme · 05/02/2026 20:02

Comparing food and portion sizes with anonymous strangers is pretty pointless - some people will pride themselves on how small their dinner is and then eat 800kcal worth of digestive biscuits afterwards without even noticing. Which is fine. But everyone is different.

Jellybunny56 · 05/02/2026 20:02

It would be too much for me personally, but my husband would say it’s not enough, everyone is different! And depending on energy levels, what else you’ve eaten in a day, level of exercise etc its just not possibly to reliably comment really.

50NotFat · 05/02/2026 20:02

I’d eat all that!

Thesnailonthewhale · 05/02/2026 20:02

Now I want a fish finger sandwich!

JohnTheRevelator · 05/02/2026 20:02

Looks fine to me,a lot of it is veg. Of course they'll be people posting saying one fish finger a teaspoon of veg and one of the potato things is more than enough for them. They'd be absolutely 'stuffed' 😂

RampantIvy · 05/02/2026 20:03

AlexandraJJ · 05/02/2026 19:17

A third of that would be enough for me but we’re all different

Are you on a diet?

Yeah it was either that or eat nothing and as I’ve previously had an eating disorder I try to eat. If I’m tired I go with protein, veg, carb in whatever combo

maybe next time I should just have the veg but I didn’t want to bin the fries I’ve already bought

Ladamesansmerci · 05/02/2026 20:03

You will get a lot of comments on here saying they'd eat half of that, but yes OP, it's a normal portion. I'd just have one less fish finger I like the number 4 more than 5 😂🤷

ItsTimeToChang3 · 05/02/2026 20:03

This is Mumsnet so you’d be best saying you just sniffed the fish fingers and it’d fill you til Christmas

RisingSunn · 05/02/2026 20:03

I would have fewer waffles - but apart from that - I don't see what the big deal is about!

MopAndBucketLady · 05/02/2026 20:03

I'd eat that much
