Context that my dad said he couldn’t believe I was eating “all that”
don’t judge the oven food, it’s Thursday and I’m tired!

I'd eat that.
I actually did eat similar yesterday but is was 5 veggie fingers, peas and those little waffle things.

standtherebicycle · 05/02/2026 22:52

Wouldn’t be for me - I eat like a snake sometimes though - A whole sheep and then nothing for a fortnight. If I’m working on my feet and busy then more whole sheeps. Either way no - your portion is exactly right assuming you were full enough at the end.

standtherebicycle · 05/02/2026 22:54

I looked at the picture again - that’s not even a quarter of a sheep. Sorry

CanYouHearYourself · 05/02/2026 22:54

I'd need some ketchup though!

No ethnic British women should be eating with the aim of being 7 stone. We are going to go back to were women were bent over post menopause and died from falls/fractures. If you are doing weight bearing exercise and are naturally light, fair enough, but I've never met a woman who is fit/strong and anywhere near that light. Bone density matters. All the research shows that being slightly overweight, or at the top of the recommended wright is good as women age.
For the posters declaring that they have one fishfinger, with salad, you need to nourish your body with good fats and protein.

Ah no I’m from well built stock. More shire horse than thoroughbred Grin
7 stone was probably when I was 8

I can eat 8 fish fingers in one go so your plate looks fine to me and I'm size 8.
Your dad must think women live on thin air.

There's only about 600 calories on your plate.
This would not fill me up for dinner.
I'd be straight onto desert and probably a snack in a couple of hours.

Edited

Well according to this thread many of them do, and apparently if they dont then they should!

One of the joys of an eating disorder is that you know a great deal about calories, protein etc, and the OPs meal looks fine as a "fuck it" dinner!

That looks ok. Possibly more than I might eat of that sort of food, but the amount is fine - and I lose weight on that portion size (not that food, though!).

The portion is fine, but I would replace half the potatoes with a slice of brown bread and have a fish finger sandwich! 😋

MissCooCooMcgoo · 05/02/2026 23:09

Babes, I could put away twice that. Don't sweat it.

EdithBond · 05/02/2026 23:10

Way too many waffles. Ultra-processed, probably a lot of salt and little nutritional value. If you want carbs, some steamed new potatoes or baked potato would be better.

Other than that, portion looks fine. If you take the breadcrumbs off the fish fingers, it’s not a great deal of fish. Especially if you only ate four. Nutritionally, would be better to have a couple of baked fillets. Or make your own coating with wholemeal breadcrumbs, if you prefer goujons.

The vegetables look the correct amount.

Absolutely right about good fats and protein, fish fingers do not supply much of that. Its not oily fish, hardly any actual fish in them.

Theyreeatingthedogs · 05/02/2026 23:14

Adult eating fish fingers??? UPF waffles? Quantity isn't the problem, it's the quality.

PyongyangKipperbang · 05/02/2026 23:15

Why are so many answering a question @fishfingergate didnt ask?!

She didnt ask "is this meal healthy? If not how can I make it better?" she references that in her op! Its clear from her later posts that she was tired and using up freezer stuff.

HUNGRY4MORE · 05/02/2026 23:16

@fishfingergate

I don't think it's a massive portion. I would have 4 or 5 fish fingers, but with mashed potato and either baked beans or mushy peas. Often, I might have slightly less in one sitting, but that's because I prefer to eat little and often, and it would be the potato I'd cut down on.

Or I'd have 4 fishfingers between 2 slices of buttered bread with some rocket (and scoff the 5th whilst I was serving up). 😂

Also intrigued by where you work. 🤔

SpiritAdder · 05/02/2026 23:18

I eat 40% of that. 2 fish fingers, half the veg and less than half the fried potato things. It’s a lot of food. I expect you to have a manual labour type job.

WimbyAce · 05/02/2026 23:19

Looks about right to me! Can't believe some people are saying 2 fishfingers??!!

springawakeningss · 05/02/2026 23:19

I could smash that away along with a few slides of bread and butter and pudding 🤣 i mean obviously you shouldn't do that often but I'm a healthy weight.

My 7 year old would ask where the rest was if I gave him 2 fish fingers!

I like fish fingers. And waffles. Sometimes a McDonald’s breakfast
I also cook from scratch and make my own bread

I do about 600kcals for evening meal so I’d go for less.

PithyViewer · 05/02/2026 23:36

It's not as big as it looks. The veg doesn't count in terms of volume as it's so low-cal, fish fingers are pretty small, and that other stuff you have looks very thin and has lots of air holes. By weight, it's probably not much. It's light food.

Calliopespa · 05/02/2026 23:46

Wonderwall23 · 05/02/2026 19:29

I am slim (borderline underweight) and would eat that minus 1 fish finger.

This isn't a criticism but as an aside, your plate itself is quite big. If you are trying to eat less (not saying you should!) I think smaller plates can help with this.

This is a similar response to what I was going to say.

I think after 3 or 4 fish fingers I'd be full enough (not full, just full enough) to remember I don't really like them and I'd have given the last couple a miss.

I'd probably eat the rest of that, but the way you have plated it is a bit odd: everything is spread out flat like there was a gale force wind in the kitchen pressing it against the plate. I think if you had sort of heaped the potato thing-thongs, and let the fish fingers cross over each other a bit, it would look less of a kind of "spread-out" meal. Maybe that's what caught your Dad's attention?

Calliopespa · 05/02/2026 23:49

fishfingergate · 05/02/2026 19:32

Yes I like nothing to touch! I mostly use them for salads as if I have a salad I have a full bag of well, salad
I can’t cope with ketchup or mayo touching my chips/fish fingers before I eat them

Ah now I understand the plating!

The fish fingers look like a picket fence!
