Context that my dad said he couldn’t believe I was eating “all that”
don’t judge the oven food, it’s Thursday and I’m tired!

These answers are making me think my portions are way too big. Though Ive thought that for a while. Because I am a healthy weight I haven't worried about it yet but since reaching middle age and wanting to trim up a bit im thinking my portions are the first thing to fix. That and biscuits at work....

Our family definitely shovels that amount down,DH and sons all work hard and are starving when they get home from work followed by a whole big trifle each and there as fit as fleas. I would eat that to but I don't eat sweets

The ‘whole big trifle each’ has made me laugh for some reason Rayqueen! Thanks for cheering me up tonight!

The meat one is my dads, not mine
funnily someone else said the pasta was tiny!

Far too many waffles and nuggets, half that.

The pasta doesn't look tiny in the slightest, it does look bloody good though.

I suspect you're one of those people that have giant plates and chuck loads of veg on one side to compensate the actual shit filled calorie filled foods on the other end.

FurForksSake · 05/02/2026 21:31

@brunettemic are we now moving on to competitively tight vaginas? Showing off the lack of a wizards sleeve is the equivalent of a size 4? 🤣🤭🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I didn’t buy the plates, but I refuse to get rid of them until they break! I like them for keeping stuff separate and also because I do have huge salads in summer

My DS8 (50th centile weight and height for his age) can easily eat 4 fishfingers with 3 waffles and veg/salad so I’ve no doubt that your portion is fine for an adult.

reversegear · 05/02/2026 21:36

I ate an entire 10 pack of fish fingers at lunch a few days ago back, did a sarnie with tartar sauce with 4, then while I was reading causally dipped the rest into the sauce and ate the lot.. to be fair they were a bit skinny!! But if that what you want to eat just eat it..

Zov · 05/02/2026 21:36

Most of the people on this thread fall into 2 categories........

  1. 'Ooooh, that's loads! I could only eat half a fish finger and a pea.'

...... and

  1. 'I could easily eat all of that and more, and I'm very slim. I'm a size 6, I have a BMI of 17, and I weigh 7 and a half stone.'

Not only competitive under-eating, but competitive 'I'm so SLIM' posts! 😆

Looks like a meal for two to me. I'd never have more than 3 fish fingers but I am constantly amazed at how much other people put on their plates.

Womaninhouse17 · 05/02/2026 21:38

P.S. I'm NOT slim!

If I gave half that to my bloke he would probably walk out to the nearest takeaway. But he can eat a LOT!

I could easily eat this and still be hungry haha! 😅 I find I’m always wanting to snack in the evenings though! For the sake of it really I guess.

We have had words before but it was good natured tonight. He gets it from my mum who was very abusive to me about my weight, took me to WW at 13 when I was a size 12 and she was a 24, would constantly comment how big I was, ugly, fatter than her etc
I have managed to drill into him it’s unacceptable and he’s much better than when she was alive

That was terrible of your mum, and you mentioned you used to have an eating disorder. Its perfectly understandable wanting to know how much other people eat when your own father is still questioning it.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 05/02/2026 21:40

I'd eat that and also have a slice of bread to make a buttie. I'm also a healthy weight.

Deadringer · 05/02/2026 19:28

Surprised that pp have said they would only eat 2 fish fingers, that seems very little to me for an adult, I would give a toddler 2 or maybe 3.

The under 5's portion at work is two fish fingers.....the competitive undereaters really are getting silly now!

Zov · 05/02/2026 21:41

brunettemic · 05/02/2026 21:29

I prefer one finger, maybe two…oh sorry, wrong MN board 😂

You naughty girl! 😆

chocciebiscuits · 05/02/2026 21:41

I'd eat more than that so definitely not too big ☺️

Salads with what? Bets it's not a healthy one.

I think people are confusing being able to physically eat a certain amount of food and whether it is a reasonable portion for (typically) one of 3 meals that day.

If you’re 7 stones and eat this amount 3 times a day, you won’t stay 7 stones for long, especially if you’re over 35. Unless you have an extremely active job/lifestyle.

TappyGilmore · 05/02/2026 21:42

I definitely don’t judge freezer food!

But I would say as a portion size, it is on the larger side. I would say three fish fingers and slightly less potato things. The veg is about right.

CarrieMoonbeams · 05/02/2026 21:44

DH has been known to have 10+ fishfingers -he is 6ft 3 and has a 6 inch waist, it’s infuriating!

What is he, a giant wasp?!

Edited to add, sadly as I'm now old, I can't eat anything like the amount I used to as a youngster. So it would be too much for me now, but I'd have had a damn good go at that size of portion up until a few years ago.

Usually halloumi, feta or tuna. Bag of salad, tomatoes, spring onions, cucumber, pickles, grated carrot, whatever is in the fridge
I don’t know why you think I wouldn’t eat healthy food Confused it’s like thinking I have never exercised just because I’m fat

Christ he'd have had a fit of the vapours if he'd seen my tea......which was a mahoosive hot beef and mushroom sandwich with gravy and horseradish (( on Jason's sourdough )) a few chips, 2 yorkshire puddings and one of those steam fresh bags of veggies which never cook properly and always have a random frozen carrot.

Very tasty it was too.

fishfingergate · 05/02/2026 20:03

Yeah it was either that or eat nothing and as I’ve previously had an eating disorder I try to eat. If I’m tired I go with protein, veg, carb in whatever combo

maybe next time I should just have the veg but I didn’t want to bin the fries I’ve already bought

Don’t forget that with fish fingers you actually already have a carb built in. Not saying don’t ever have te fries if you fancy them but if you are trying todo protein veg and carb and even lose a bit of weight gosh fingers and veg alone has it covered

Most people eat more calories for their evening meal than for breakfast and lunch though.
I probably eat 400kcal for breakfast, 600kcal for lunch and 700kcal for dinner. 1700kcal overall. 8.5 stone and fairly active. The meal in the OP isn’t more than 700kcal.
