Context that my dad said he couldn’t believe I was eating “all that”
don’t judge the oven food, it’s Thursday and I’m tired!

I use chat gpt occasionally to get a rough idea of how many calories I am eating and what the estimated macros are. In my experience I often underestimate how many calories I am eating.

onlyhereforthefood · 05/02/2026 21:01

It would depend what else I’ve eaten in the day, but tonight that would have been perfect!

If you’re not much overweight I wouldn’t worry about it.

But if you are - two areas you could consider is cutting UPFs and cutting portion size.

I sometimes have gluten free fish fingers for lunch. I either do 4 + salad or if I’m having carbs as well I have 2.

I usually cook from scratch I would say 90% of the time including my bread rolls etc for lunch. Don’t use jar sauces but I do use frozen veg and fruit
I would swap to better mayo, ketchup, organic etc but it’s not in my budget

As a one off it is fine. You are tired and you ate it, no point beating yourself up about it. But if you want to lose weight then try to make better choices. The vegetables look good. Eat it with sweet potato fries for fiber and maybe a can of tuna?!

wow! “Make better choices?!”

@fishfingergatethe meal is fine!!

soupyspoon · 05/02/2026 21:03

Better choices should include beans instead of veg, drenched in grated cheese with that slice of soft pappy bread and butter to make fishginger and bean sandwiches.

usedtobeaylis · 05/02/2026 21:05

Five days before my period I would be wolfing that and still be starving. Two days into my period I'd eat about half of it.

In short, it depends on the person, the day, the hunger, what else has been eaten, how you're feeling. Eat away!

Pairymoppins · 05/02/2026 20:47

I am stunned that anyone would think two fish fingers is a portion!

The only time two fish fingers make their way onto a plate in my house with no other fish finger friends is for my kid. For an adult two fish fingers is measly.

Elsvieta · 05/02/2026 21:08

I'd have eaten that pre Mounjaro (but then I was 12.5 stone). If I liked fish fingers. But then the problem was my big portions all the time - not just one meal. If you're normal weight and healthy it's fine.

Ophy83 · 05/02/2026 21:09

Google says fish fingers are 43-60 calories per finger, so max 300 on your plate. The veg is hardly anything. Plus a normal amount of chips. I think that's completely fine.

cardibach · 05/02/2026 20:59

Shovel it down? That’s a phrase describing greed and not enjoyment. So yes.

Edit to add - I’d say ‘ I was really hungry so I inhaled it a bit’ or similar. I wouldn’t use a metaphor involving a massive utensil.

Maybe to you. It’s a term to me that just means eating quickly when hungry. I love food and am slim and healthy. No guilt or bad foods in my world.

Yeah 'he was shoveling it in' would usually be taken to mean someone was eating as if they were really hungry.

Oh I love my job so not leaving. It’s just a quirk of the building, we don’t have heating without being too outing about it

I was invested in the food content but now I’m intrigued about where you could possibly work and why you wouldn’t have heating in the building 🤔

PickAChew · 05/02/2026 21:17

It's fine. 160g of veg is 2 portions and you need 5 fish fi gers for a decent portion of protein.

It's about the amount I'd serve myself and I'm short and middle aged with a BMI of 22.

Strangesally20 · 05/02/2026 21:18

I would eat that no problem and still have room for crisps or chocolate afterwards and I’m lower end normal for BMI. I prefer 2 large meals a day to 3 a day though and only really snack at night, which I’m trying to stop, and failing miserably at currently eating crisps in bed while watching tv.

Morecoombe · 05/02/2026 21:19

Looks a normal size portion to me. I’d have dessert after that too

I would have to PM, it genuinely is way too outing!

Pretty much my line of thinking too !

AlexandraJJ · 05/02/2026 19:17

A third of that would be enough for me but we’re all different

Same. But eat what you like OP !!

Littleguggi · 05/02/2026 21:23

Nothing wrong with that portion at all, I'd easily eat that and I am a size 8 healthy BMI. I'd probably even have a pudding after!

Turnerskies · 05/02/2026 21:24

5 fish fingers is around the same weight as a salmon fillet. Breaded cod is often bigger. Those are one standard portion, so why do people say 5 fish fingers is too much? I would imagine those potatoes are less filling and solid than chips so not really a large meal.

thismummyslife · 05/02/2026 21:24

It looks a lot because it’s all spread out on a big square plate, tell him to mind his own business x

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/02/2026 21:25

I would eat 3 fish fingers

Evaka · 05/02/2026 21:29

I'd scoff that with a sick amount of mayo after a long day. I'm a healthy weight.

brunettemic · 05/02/2026 21:29

Damnd · 05/02/2026 19:20

Three fingers for me, same veg, less fries

I prefer one finger, maybe two…oh sorry, wrong MN board 😂
