Context that my dad said he couldn’t believe I was eating “all that”
don’t judge the oven food, it’s Thursday and I’m tired!

Is this too big a portion?

In the bin after I realised it had been unopened for an unspecified amount of time and went out of date July last year….

Peanut butter it is then 🙂

I would never eat that much in a meal but I have absolutely no doubt I consume more cals than you in a day. I am a grazer and I'm very overweight.

Im not overweight but I am a grazer, I eat a lot of very small meals. I dont agree with the idea of this OMAD or fasting (I know thats not what OP is doing) but some people like small portions regularly and some people like their 3 meals a day. Nothing wrong with either like you say.

We all eat differently but these threads always sneer and snipe at people who eat differently

GetAbsOrDieTrying · 05/02/2026 20:32

Really doesn’t matter, what matters is are you healthy?! If overweight that is unhealthy and quite a large portion. If you are underweight or average that isn’t nutritious but ok as a one off. Main thing, is your body able to process that?! Young people can eat crap off and on and still be healthy. As you get older it is harder. Maybe try sweet potato fries next time.

I think everyone varies a bit. Some days I eat breakfast, sometimes I don’t. Depends if I’m hungry or not really

Edited

Yes overweight. Normal BP, bloods all good including blood sugars, cholesterol etc except for my stupid thyroid
lots of autoimmune conditions which mean I’m permanently shattered
when I’m not shattered I do spin, weights, yoga etc

The fish fingers I buy have 15 in a box.

So I figure a serving is 3 or 5!

imisscashmere · 05/02/2026 20:35

My six year old DS would scarf that down, asking for more fish fingers. Then pudding.

Imbusytodaysorry · 05/02/2026 20:36

@fishfingergate I think it’s fine and I am very at the weight I “should be “
I often think that smokers comment on food being too much .
Id ask who are smokers when saying it’s “too much “ as they have no appetite .

KvotheTheBloodless · 05/02/2026 19:22

I'd eat that, I'm a healthy weight. Perfectly normal amount.

Don't listen to MN competitive undereaters, some people on here have serious food issues.

Was going to say exactly the same!

Looks about the same size dinner as I have, I'm a normal weight, size 10.
Even my 3 year old eats more than 2 fishfingers, some people are weird!

Popcorn76 · 05/02/2026 20:38

I don't think the calories are that high for a dinner. You will probably looking at around 300 kcal for the fish fingers, 200 for the potato waffles and 100 kcal for the veg, so maybe 600 ish which seems reasonable for one meal. The main issue is the nutritional content and the sugary carbs are likely not to fill you up and leave you craving more food in a couple of hours.

AgnesX · 05/02/2026 20:38

I could scoff the lot but realistically my portion size would be fewer fish fingers and potatoes.

I’ll be well asleep by then! Once I’ve had my nighttime cup of tea I don’t eat anything else

If you put that first meal on a normal sized round dinner plate it would be overflowing.

Yes. I think your portions are large.

fishfingergate · 05/02/2026 19:24

Leon waffle fries, garlic and herb ones
don’t usually buy them but I did an Ocado shop and they were on offer

The waffle fries do look good! Were they nice & crisp outside, and fluffy soft on the inside? I might have to find them.

Now you’re making me hungry. I could probably eat that portion right now. Nothing wrong either the portion size. You don’t have to eat it all anyway.

AlexandraJJ · 05/02/2026 19:19

Yes

How old are you? I’m going to guess 65+ with such a small appetite.

I’m nearing 40, healthy BMI and I’d eat that plus some.

OP - you’re going to get a range of answers. Typically older people eat less. It also depends what else you’ve eaten that day.

AlexandraJJ · 05/02/2026 19:36

You’re reaching. If you’re trying to create drama you picked the wrong audience. It’s very telling you jumped to that

Bore off 🙄

QuantumPanic · 05/02/2026 20:41

I can't believe people are saying it's a big portion? I thought the first comment was a joke of the 'massive salad' variety, but people are obviously being sincere.

It's about half of what I'd eat.

ParmaVioletTea · 05/02/2026 20:42

I’d eat none of the potato crap and about 3 times the vegetables, and 4 fish fingers. But your plate looks ok.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 05/02/2026 20:42

I could eat that many fish fingers but I wouldn't have the potato things since you've got loads of carbs in the breadcrumbs. Would also want ketchup.

fishfingergate · 05/02/2026 20:42

They were really nice and crisped up well. Not enough garlic on them for me but the plain ones have better reviews

Too much for me but I'm on mounjaro 🤣 wouldn't dream of judging someone else's portions tho

Muffsies · 05/02/2026 20:43

I could easily eat all of that, but it would slow down my digestion. I have no issue with the amount, but at 48 I'd need it to be 50% veg to get enough fibre. Swap the chips out for salad, I'm good with 5 fish fingers, more than enough carbs with the bread coating.

All those processed carbs would bloat me and cause "difficulties". Maybe that's why your dad made that comment?

Pluto9812 · 05/02/2026 20:44

Not enough for me. I am normal weight too.
