To wonder why people keep voting SNP?

I don't know a lot about Scottish politics and I may be missing important things they've done. However, I used to have a lot of respect for Nicola Sturgeon but her handling of gender critical issues has destroyed that. The SNP do not seem very effective at reducing drugs, poverty, or other serious issues.
My understanding was that quite a few people vote SNP not because they want independence (which most Scots appear to not want) but because they think the SNP are more committed to Scotland sorcifically than Tories and Labour. How accurate is this though..?

Since most Scots appear to not want independence, I thought the SNP was probably high achieving in other areas & Tories & Labour seen as poor by comparison. Or is it more often seen as the best of 3 bad options? Or is SNP much more positive than the impression I've got?

A reminder of the words of James Morton, the then CEO of Scottish Trans who were a major driver of the SPS transgender policy -

'We strategized – we strategized – that by working intensively with the Scottish Prison Service to support them to include trans women as women on a self-declaration basis within very challenging circumstances, we would be able to ensure that all other public services should be able to do likewise’.

Males being placed into the female prison estate (including until last year violent male sex offenders - Isla Bryson was one of many - Katie Dolatowski is another high profile one) wasn't done as an accident or a misunderstanding. It was (and continues to be) SPS policy. They were going to place Andrew Burns/Tiffany Scott, described as 'the most menacing offender in the Scottish prison estate', into a women's jail until the Isla Bryson backlash.

The SPS/Scottish Government are still placing violent male offenders in the female prison estate. And are preparing to argue in court their right to continue to do so.

Anyone who is aware of these facts and continues to argue that males should be incarcerated with vulnerable women (80% of Scottish female prisoners have had a head injury, mostly through domestic violence) is a straight up monster.

They’re shaking with fear. Its an appalling assault on the women’s rights to privacy and dignity.
