Jogger shoulder barged me today.

I was walking my dog this afternoon, when out of nowhere, a male jogger shoulder barged me. It was very intentional and my shoulder still aches now.

He carried on jogging, and we had the following exchange.

Me: excuse me! You just could have said excuse me!
Him: you took up all the path
Me: thats why you say excuse me! You wouldnt do that to a man.

He jogged futher on then said 'yes I would' and gave me the v's.

I live in a small village so likey to see him again. Should I report?

He was wearing a very distintive jogging outfit, but he kept his back to me, so I could not see his face. His legs were bare, so I could guess he was 60 plus as they were old man legs.

I feel like I was assulted!

It is a thing unfortunately. I know people have cited women also doing it. But the man thing is part of the Tate/Manosphere thing.

It has happened to me in central London. I was walking by the Thames on an empty pavement and a male jogger came towards me in. He was on the outside edge of the pavement, I was on the other side, so we were not going to collide or be in each other’s way. I saw him look at me, swerve, and then ran straight at me, and bashed me with his shoulder so I stumbled. He just carried on jogging. It felt like an assault because it was one. He targeted me. I was stunned. It felt malevolent. I did not report it. I would have assumed the police would give me short shrift. That was just before the Putney Bridge incident. I don’t think it is the same person, but if it had happened after Putney I would have reported it.

Also at a central London station I saw a man doing it to a young girl. He was big, she was slight. She was wearing a hijab so I think it was racially motivated. She looked so shocked and stunned. I asked her if she was ok. He was smirking as he did it. At that time there was no awareness of it as a thing. There is now and it should be reported.

This makes me feel sick. My DD21 tells me about stuff like this more or less weekly on her commute into London. She is petite and often feels men shoulder barge , stand right up behind her, push past her. I know tubes are busy but I think we just know when the intention is bad. What is happening to men? She also regularly gives up her seat for an older person while young men sit . Ugh!

Met just as many rude women as well as men. This is just a rude person issue.

rwalker · 30/01/2026 07:48

If he came up behind you he should of shouted and was out of order
if he was coming towards you and you had the whole path you were being unreasonable

Woman walking dog mindlessly taking up whole pavement gets jostled out of the way by runner as he tries to pass. ‘Assault’? Get a grip!

I wasn't jostled. I was hit, intentionaly and very hard.

Poor attempt to minimise.

Yes, they came up from behind.

I would definitely put it on the local FB group too. Many of them you can ask the admin to post anonymously.

He was very rude and my reflexes would have made me stick my leg out and trip him up.

All he had to do was use his words and say excuse me.

we are talking about an inconsiderate twat

not violence

Sounds like an assault.

There are some twats about. I was just leaving the station in my village the other day, there are no barriers and there is plenty of room and people were just ambling through at about 5.30pm to get picked up or walk home.

Some rude angry twat yells MOVE OUT OF THE WAY, seemed to be some guy in his 30s. I said "Was there any need for that?" He said "If you are in the way you expect to feel the consequences." I said "You're an utter fuckwit." Fortunately he just stomped off, it was probably pretty stupid of me to say anything but I was so annoyed that someone would behave like that at my station. It's not that sort of place!

santasbaubles · 30/01/2026 08:21

I got deliberately shoulder barged by three teenage girls in town the other week. I’m ashamed to say that I shouted “fuck you!” at them. (You can take the girl out of London…) they just laughed and kept walking.

Still, not as bad as the time a random teenage boy spat in my face when I crossed the street! That was 20 years ago now. I’m still nervy about walking past boys on bikes.

He sounds awful, i really don't understand the mindset of someone who gets so angry about being delayed for a couple of seconds, its part of living on a planet full of people, animals and things. He's probably the same behind the wheel, spreading his rage everywhere.

rainandshine38 · 30/01/2026 08:25

I had a tall well built male jogger just run straight in my path a few weeks ago. If I hadn’t dived out of the way he would have probably just been happy to knock me over or barge. There’s a breed of male arsehole runners that have actually put me off running altogether.

Holdinguphalfthesky · 30/01/2026 08:27

You were assaulted! Definitely make a report.

Mammut · 29/01/2026 19:26

I’ve really noticed an increase in shoulder barging by men recently. It’s happened to me several times.

Yes! It happened to me when I was walking along with my DS11 recently.

Totally no need and deliberate as there was plenty of space alongside us - in fact I think he had to move over in order to barge me. Not a jogger, just a man walking the opposite direction.

ChamonixMountainBum · 30/01/2026 08:37

I do a fair bit of running and there is definitely a sizeable minority of joggers who think all trails and footpaths are exclusively their private property and everyone else has to give way because they are terribly serious high performance athletes dontchaknow. Equally, there are selfish morons who walk in large groups several people abreast and dont budge an inch when they see other people coming towards them and expect them to jump in a hedge or river.

LongTermLurker · 30/01/2026 08:39

You have my sympathy - I was once very aggressively shoulder barged by a guy on an isolated canal path. I'd already made space for him, as we were running towards each other. It was really hard and shocked me. It was completely deliberate and very unsettling. Needless to say he didn't look back or respond to my "hey that hurt!".

And another time some entitled fucker ran up behind me and my (very obviously) partially sighted, mobility disabled auntie on a wide woodland path, and pushed past her saying "for fuck sake!!".

Some men are absolutely looking for reasons to intimidate or belittle women.

I've actually never witnessed a woman deliberately being aggressive in this way (mindlessly inconsiderate, yes, but not intentionally hostile).

And in answer to your question, yes I would report this /flag it up publicly wherever you can.

Naaah, there is zero need to physically barge someone out the way unless you are a complete arsehole. I run a lot and yes it is irritating when an individual or group makes no attempt to make space (as I do) so both parties can pass each other but I would never consider pushing past someone. A few choice words maybe. So what if you run gets disrupted for 4 seconds.

Fulmine · 30/01/2026 08:58

TheSlantedOwl · 29/01/2026 19:40

It’s assault, and shouldn’t be minimised.

Log it with the non emergency police.

There isn't a facility for people just to "log" things. Either OP wants them to investigate or she doesn't.

Frankly, I think it would be a pointless exercise - he'll just claim it was an accident and there will be no way of disproving it.

Dont you know the police have a special mumsnet hotline where patrons of this board can indeed log minor grievance with their neighbours, parking disputes and that annoying queen bee mum at the school gates.

Just female parents that are annoying?

Booksandwine80 · 30/01/2026 09:15

Runners are generally aresholes with no regard for anyone else using the space

Teaandwater · 30/01/2026 09:20

What a prick. I would be so annoyed. Definitely put it on social media.

Apparently approx 40% of the uk population run at least once a week, that's alot of people to hate on

It's not a man versus woman thing, but there are more men likely to be guilty of the "my stats are the most important thing in the world right now, get out of my way" than women.

Yep. I get a strong sense of entitlement from the jogger

I don’t hate them just see it a lot especially on the school run twice a day. Knocking into little kids because they can’t stand having to slow down. Yelling that they’re “coming up on your left” 🙄
