Jogger shoulder barged me today.

I was walking my dog this afternoon, when out of nowhere, a male jogger shoulder barged me. It was very intentional and my shoulder still aches now.

He carried on jogging, and we had the following exchange.

Me: excuse me! You just could have said excuse me!
Him: you took up all the path
Me: thats why you say excuse me! You wouldnt do that to a man.

He jogged futher on then said 'yes I would' and gave me the v's.

I live in a small village so likey to see him again. Should I report?

He was wearing a very distintive jogging outfit, but he kept his back to me, so I could not see his face. His legs were bare, so I could guess he was 60 plus as they were old man legs.

I feel like I was assulted!

It is because men don’t barge men

Well, they do. My DH was pushed off his bike in December, by a man. Completely random, on the morning commute, in the bike lane moving not very fast (slow moving car traffic, other bikes in bike lane). Man was crossing the road, stepped into the bike lane and then saw DH coming, DH braked but too late, man got annoyed at cyclist being in his way (in the bike lane), shoved him off his bike and yelled “get out of my fucking way you fucking moron”. DH got off the ground with help of other cyclist just behind who saw what happened, other cyclist yelled at pedestrian for not looking before stepping into road while DH adjusted his helmet, pedestrian came back to DH and punched him in the face. DH punched him back (ffs 🙄) and man spotted a third cyclist was videoing it all and ran off.

Yes, men barge men, and worse.

But were you taking up all the path breadth? I do think we’re all have a responsibility in shared space to well actually share it.

Yep, this reminds me when I had to step into a busy road... into oncoming traffic, because two women with pushchairs would not go single file on a narrow footpath to let me pass safely.

I am a pushover, and am the sort to move rather than stand my ground.
I did see a post on here where if you found yourself coming to a group of people refusing to make room for you... you should just stop and stay glued to the spot.

ZoomerBoomer · 29/01/2026 21:20

FB message to the villagers with description of him, time, location and event - warning to ALL seeing as he will likely injure someone and doesn't care who, male or female.

I do that now. I am absolutely sick of people with a stroller and a dog on a leash on the school run, allowing the dog to sniff around on the other side of the pavement from them, basically setting a trip wire for other people with the dog leash. Occupying the ENTIRE width of the pavement with enormous stroller and dog on a leash forcing people to jump over the leash or nudge the dog away - or most often, wait. Wait for their fucking dog to finish its sniffing. I stop a little too close to either the dog or the stroller and they suddenly realise that a stranger is in what they deem to be their personal space (the entire pavement) and move. People are so bloody inconsiderate.

Is this a joke? If someone is taking up space that does not give any other person the right to assault them. Does this really need saying😵‍💫

That’s not a barge it’s a fight

of course there will be exceptions - men generally are more cautious about antagonising other males - much happier to start on women - you see in road rage too

Andflop · 29/01/2026 19:12

I was barged hard last week whilst on a dog walk

the barger was a woman

This is not a man versus women issue

Absolutely, but it is equally unacceptable to deliberately barge into someone. Even if it's accidental, it's careless and they should apologise. A cyclist (same principle as the jogger) nearly rode into my mum and then toddler, going too fast and annoyed they were not making way for her as if she was the Queen.
Agree the only unreasonable thing here is assuming he wouldn't do it if you were a man, but this guy could seriously injure someone. What if you had spinal issues/shoulder problems? He can't know if a stranger could end up in hospital from a shove, lots of young people have these issues too.

Sartre · 29/01/2026 21:25

I wouldn’t barge someone but I am a bit of a rage runner so can understand. Of course some people will have headphones I can’t see or hearing loss I don’t know about but most people will hear and in certain cases even see you coming and make zero attempt
to move. It’s kind of infuriating because it happens almost every single run. Sometimes it will be two people walking side by side, they will turn back and see me pelting towards them but not move so I have to go in the road. It’s usually women to be honest, no idea why.

As I say, no excuse to make physical contact but equally you probably weren’t the only one who got in his way.

HighStreetOtter · 29/01/2026 21:25

CosmicTea · 29/01/2026 19:42

Dreadful. Do you remember that male jogger that pushed a woman into the road on a bridge in London? I don't think they ever caught him did they. There are some dangerous knobs around. They must have serious anger issues to assault lone females. Scary.

I was just about to say this. Total male entitlement. Sometimes people don’t realise someone else is coming and the other person needs to say excuse me or go round. No excuse for physical assault.

Yes, it's a narrow pavement with a grass verge to the side. If he'd have said 'excuse me' I would have stood to the side, as I do when I meet anyone on that path.

I'm not entitled to think the path was mine alone. I am happy to share it!

I'm sorry but I would have run after him and pushed him back. Hurt me and I hurt you back. I won't be hurt by anyone and I don't care if everyone disagreed with me. I wouldn't just stand there and shout Oi you hurt me and let them jog off.

Unfortunately, it is - it’s a big trend in the ‘manosphere’. It even has a name in Japan which translates as Man Bumping.

Unfortunately if every woman who was barged by a man retaliated in this way they would put themselves at more risk of harm. That's part of the problem. Men are (on average) significantly stronger than women.

A guy walked right up behind me, nudged my shoulder and over-took me one night after work. It was a quiet path and I jumped and kind of gasped. I said “ Hey you scared me, you could’ve said excuse me.” And he told me to shut my white mouth!

No. And the best I can up with is "sorry", like I am apologising for existing.

But in future, I will just stand my ground. I hope that is ok.

Exactly.

I was shoulder barged by a female jogger while minding my own business, stupid decision on her part as I was taller and stronger than her; I sprinted after her and give her a dose of her own medicine.

If a man had barged me, I'd have done nothing.
