To think there needs to be a points strategy for voting.

As we are all aware, there are some seriously concerning political views held by some of the nation.

In a bid to make sure that the vote is done fairly, and more substantiated by people with the intelligence to vote properly - I think it should be along the lines of this.

2 votings points to those who have completed university or a degree.
1 voting point to those who have completed GCSE of 3 C’s and above.
0.5 voting point to those with anything less than that.
0.25 voting point to members of society who have been convicted previously.

I just think given the fact that the majority of you have failed to read my opening post correctly it’s futile to argue with you.

I never said to dictate which party is voted for, just that I have seen some simply voting because that’s who family/friends vote for. That is a poor use of a vote.

Oh, we read it correctly all right.

Anyway... aren't you supposed to be leaving? Maybe go and find a country with a voting system with which your beliefs align.

No, we know exactly what you meant.

Do you not have a spellchecker as you seem to have problems with spelling?

Monty34 · 29/01/2026 17:10

Oh yes. Old JD Vance wants to limit the vote to those with children and those who pay taxes. They, apparently are the only people who are invested in the day to day of the country and future.
What absolute garbage.

If only smart ppl were allowed to vote, not sure OP would get her convocation

Then you should have the right to vote removed from you. If you are old enough to vote, that is.

ginnybag · 29/01/2026 17:11

There's a vague justification for a 'competency' test - i.e. prove you understand our political system, how our elections work, the differences between local authority, by-election, general election and referendum etc - granting more weighting to a person's vote if they're less likely to be voting 'blind', but other than that, no.

(Or, of course, we could just do a better job of teaching this, so that everybody does understand and doesn't vote without understanding)

We're a democracy for good or ill or we're not. It may not be a brilliant system, with its many and multiplying problems, but it is the best system we've invented and tested so far.

Dont be so bloody ridiculous

Monty34 · 29/01/2026 17:13

It is discussion where at the root of it are people who want to turn back time. To limiting the vote. Either to men only, or people of a certain age, wealth etc.
Once you start limiting it, then other limitations can creep in. It is backward thinking. Not progress. And aimed at removing some people from having what is a very small and limited say, once in a blue moon.

Ten marks for using the correct "too". Ten marks deducted for the incorrect spelling of imbecile. Nil pois for you.

Monty34 · 29/01/2026 17:16

It took years for ordinary people, both men and women to get the right to vote. Of whatever financial and educational status.
I am appalled that in 2026 someone thinks it might be great to throw all that away. They do of course, assume they would retain the right themselves ! So they might hope….

Exactly. OP might want to read a history book to learn how and why the vote was extended to all.

First season love island I was in a private FB group to discuss as we watched which contained 2 people who are now MP's,3 people who are now in HoL, and about another 8 who have at one point stood for election to a parliament

That says it all then 😂

As much I as understand that statistically the less educated vote right wing (fact.. don't jump on me right wingers) everyone should have an equal say and an equal vote. Otherwise policies will not reflect issues that the less educated in society will need

Totally agree.
