Partner doesn’t shower enough

my partner doesn’t shower often enough, I mean he can go days without showering and putting clean boxers on,
I’ve mention it so many times but his excuse is he doesn’t have time as he has the gym then work but there is time and I just lost it today and told him he’s being lazy and it’s off putting cos he smells.
he thinks I shouldn’t have called him lazy cos he really doesn’t have time but he does have plenty time.

You voukd also get a water infection OP from unwashed genitals. Just saying!

Purpleturtle45 · 27/01/2026 18:47

That would be a deal breaker for me!

MissRaspberry · 27/01/2026 18:49

Urgh I was married to a guy like this it really isn't nice at all. He went months without bathing or showering. Granted he didn't go to the gym but he works in retail and I think at one point his manager pointed out customers complained about his personal hygiene. Honestly I stuck to the no sex without him having had a wash. He then went looking elsewhere and cheated going on dating sites and telling women hes married but his wife doesn't give him sexy time. Like honestly if he'd washed he would've actually got some action. Safe to say that man is now my ex husband. OP your partner has no excuse he goes to a gym where there are showers available to use. Takes 10 minutes to have a wash it's not going to take up much of his chill time before or after work. I'd be surprised if his boss or supervisor at work hasn't had words with him about his personal hygiene

mommatoone · 27/01/2026 18:50

Grim. Absolutely grim.

Zoec1975 · 27/01/2026 18:50

CatAsstrophe · 27/01/2026 16:23

I'd chuck him back in the gutter where he belongs.

🤣had to laugh

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 27/01/2026 18:50

Soap dodger

steff13 · 27/01/2026 18:51

You can't make him shower. Your choices are to live with it or not.

anonymous73181921 · 27/01/2026 16:32

he wouldn’t care others would smell him he does a quick spray of deodorant and spray of aftershave before work. It is the same with teeth they only get done if he showers
he does have about 2 hours after this before work but he wants to just chill as he works long days but feel like I nag, he does like to tell me I smell when I know I don’t as I shower twice a day😂

He's got a cheek telling you about your personal hygiene when he barely washes himself. Maybe he can smell himself but would rather say that it's you who stinks rather than admitting it's really him and doing something about it the bloody scruff. Tell him his deodorant isn't so good that it masks ages and ages of not washing

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 27/01/2026 18:53

This is so grim. If he refuses to shower I would spilt up.

tillylula · 27/01/2026 18:54

I bet he has time to sit and scroll on his phone. My husband is the same and it makes me not want to go near him.

So the only time he brushes his teeth is when he showers? Wtf!!!! And he doesnt shower......
This man is mingin! How the hell can you share a bed with this grot bag? Get rid and do better!

FlapperFlamingo · 27/01/2026 19:00

If any guy wouldn’t shower at least daily I would not be dating him and I certainly wouldn’t be living with him. That disgusting. I don’t care how nice he is the fact that he isn’t clean would make me heave. I wouldn’t want to sit in the couch with him let alone anything else.

Canonlythinkofthisone · 27/01/2026 18:04

Ewewww
My ex was like this. Happened during lockdown, he "couldn't see the point in wasting water as he wasn't going anywhere"
One day I absolutely lost my mind because after 2 days of thinking the cat had brought in a mouse that had died behind a skirting board or something and scouring the living room for the source of the smell, I realised it was WHERE HE SAT ON THE SOFA. 🤢🤢🤢🤢 the smell of his stinky arse and groin was ingrained in the cushion
I left as soon as I could and never looked back. Dirty bastard. Also had the audacity to moan I'd stopped having sex with him 🤣🤣

No fuckin way!!!!!!! That is rank 🤮🤮🤮🤮

OhCobblers · 27/01/2026 19:02

It is actually possible to be in a loving relationship with someone who showers EVERY DAY as well as brushes their teeth!! They’re not mutually exclusive!!!
i feel quite 🤢 thinking about it!

Grammarninja · 27/01/2026 19:05

How long does it take him to shower? Is he someone who makes such a production of it that it feels like a momentous task?

EmeraldShamrock000 · 27/01/2026 19:09

I wouldn’t like that at all. I’m all for having a lazy honking day occasionally but never two in a row.
DH is very clean, shower daily and hasn’t ever left a mess in the bathroom. Thank fuck.

MiddleAgedDread · 27/01/2026 19:12

Ewww I bet he doesn’t wash his hands after going to the toilet either 🤢

Anonimiss · 27/01/2026 19:13

Fucks sake! What a filthy pig.
it’d be bad enough not showering but if he goes to the gym as well he must stink!🤮

Perfect28 · 27/01/2026 19:14

Not brushing teeth is really really grim.

CatAsstrophe · 27/01/2026 19:18

TheTipsySquid · 27/01/2026 16:53

Not to make excuses for him but could he be neurodivergent and have sensory issues ?

You are making excuses for him. ND does not equal dirty, lazy fucker. Sensory issues do not equal lazy, dirty fucker. Can't it just be that he is a lazy, dirty, disrespectful fucker?

OP, you need to raise your standards. He stinks, therefore, your home will smell horrible - your bedclothes, soft furnishings etc. You probably don't notice as you live with such a filthy minger, but people who visit your home will have noticed. Gross!

KarenW · 27/01/2026 19:18

He'll get gum disease, lose his teeth within the next few years, mouth cancer, need i go on?

canisquaeso · 27/01/2026 19:25

This is break up worthy. How does he have time to go to the gym but not to shower? Bonkers.

Raineys · 27/01/2026 19:28

I would be more concerned about you.
How could you live with such a person, genuinely?

He's absolutely filthy and disgusting.
He will only get worse.

You will so regret wasting your life with him.
Do not inflict him on children.

Mirabellas · 27/01/2026 19:30

anonymous73181921 · 27/01/2026 16:39

theres not a thing he wouldn’t do for me hence the obvious and is so loving.
I didn’t know the extent of the showering ext till we moved in together.
a just don’t get how he doesn’t see it as a problem that’s affecting how I see him

Well he clearly won’t shower for you will he? It wouldn’t matter how loving a partner is his hygiene is disgusting, he wouldn’t be sharing my bed either, no way would I sleep next to a disgusting creature like this man, and the house must smell if he’s sitting on furniture. I seriously couldn’t have sex with someone like this even if he showered beforehand. He’s telling you everything you need to know about him, listen!

He is absolutely gaslighting you by saying you smell. Leave this absolute red flag!
