To not get the Traitors

I'm listening to Scott Mills who has Harriet Tyce on. I know her primarily as an author. They're going on about it as if it's Operation Mincemeat. It's a telly game show not life or death.

I have watched it a few years ago and am not fussy. It's just another vehicle for people to be famous I guess.

We love it, it's so much fun with all the twists and turns. It takes a bit of time to get going though.

Deathby · 21/01/2026 09:15

Ha, you're the only other person on the planet who doesn't like it. Each to their own and all that but I don't understand why people get so obsessed by it.

Miloarmadillo2 · 21/01/2026 09:16

We love it, and it’s so unusual now to have something that everyone watches live and talks about the day after.

PinterandPirandello · 21/01/2026 09:18

Meh - you don’t have to like it but I’m sure you can appreciate that millions do.

I agree re shared experience but that's exactly why it's a shame it bores me rigid.

Eta: I do like Claudia's outfits but FAR too much makeup, it's distracting

Dontcallmescarface · 21/01/2026 09:19

It's the OTT nonsense that irks me " tonight 1 of you will be murdered" err no you won't because that's illegal. 1 of you will be out of the game, nothing more, so stop with the " I'm too scared to sleep" dramatics.

scrimblescramble · 21/01/2026 09:19

I'm another person who doesn't like it. A load of old tosh. Tried to get into it but was bored within the first 2 minutes

Daisywhatsyouranswer · 21/01/2026 09:19

But it’s ok op not to like things others do. You don’t need to be a sheep, I mean I can’t be arsed with any soaps or strictly. And that’s ok too.

Ohthatsabitshit · 21/01/2026 09:27

My children and husband love it, I’m not so bothered. I find it really sweet how they get all excited and watch it and discuss it so seriously though.

AyrshireTryer · 21/01/2026 09:30

Not everything is for you.

Wonderknicks · 21/01/2026 09:31

I think it's great that we are having TV that different generations are watching together. I didn't watch it until series 3 but am hooked now. I don't watch any other "reality" TV, so this is my only vice 😂. I sometimes feel a bit bewildered about why so many people like Strictly, but it's just not my thing, and that's OK!

Purlant · 21/01/2026 09:33

I’m not sure it’s a stepping stone to get famous any more than any other game show. I couldn’t name a single previous winner or contestant! I don’t love it or hate it, it’s something to watch whilst cooking dinner, sometimes I skip the boring bits, but overall it’s generally a bit of fun.

RaraRachael · 21/01/2026 09:42

I've never watched it and have no interest in it but I hate when discussions about it are held on programmes I'm listening to.

They dont really murder people. Its just a game.

ValueofNothing · 21/01/2026 09:45

It's absolutely fine to not like or "get" any TV show. I enjoy Traitors but of course not everyone's going to like it.

So you know people don't get eaten by dinosaurs in Jurassic Park right?

Sartre · 21/01/2026 09:48

We love it because it’s something we can all watch together as a family, it brings us together in one room to enjoy something. Very few series like this exist now my DC are teens. We watched Stranger Things together over Christmas which was nice. We always watch Bake Off together and there’s the odd other thing like Squid Game when that was on. It’s also a nice treat in the bleakness of January.

SummaLuvin · 21/01/2026 09:53

It's just another vehicle for people to be famous I guess.

I actually disagree with this. Of the previous series (at least in the UK) no-one has been made famous of the back of it. Sure ex-contestants get invited on the podcast, some have been in pantos, and I'm sure Harriet will sell a few more copies of her book. But the idea that reality TV actually makes people famous it quite dated now, there's too much of it around to do so, saturation has been reached. Even Love Island fails to catapult anyone into major success, that's been the case for around 5 years, I actually think thats what makes the Traitors fun - people aren't going in there for fame and the riches and noteririty it brings, but for the fun of it.

zingally · 21/01/2026 10:10

I had never watched it until this current season.

Previous seasons I'd been vaguely aware of, and heard people rave about, but never watched. I'd just assumed I think that it was another sort-of gameshow a bit like "I'm a Celebrity", which I've never got into either.

But having heard people rave so much about it, I thought I'd give this new season a go, and I've been HOOKED. I've absolutely loved it. And all the old seasons are on iPlayer, so I might well go back and watch them as well. I'm going to start with the celebrity one, even though I know who wins.

whatcanthematterbe81 · 21/01/2026 10:43

I love it. I find people who don’t like it don’t understand it fully.

DoctorMarten · 21/01/2026 10:45

It’s a game. And Claudia is fabulous! There are a zillion other things to watch

CandiedPrincess · 21/01/2026 10:46

I tried watching it for a few episodes but I really couldn't get interested in it but I guess different people like different things and it's just not the sort of thing I enjoy!

ErickBroch · 21/01/2026 10:47

Life would be dull if everyone liked the same things!

ComtesseDeSpair · 21/01/2026 10:47

I’ve never seen it, though vaguely know what it’s about because the actuaries who sit in my bank of desks in the office seem to absolutely love it.

I’m not enough of a TV watcher or at home in time regularly enough to give it a go myself, but from what I generally grasp I can see the appeal: it’s a bit like a giant, real game of Cluedo, and millions of people love playing Cluedo.

Jux · 21/01/2026 10:51

I have watched it a couple of times, simply because everyone seems to like it so much and I was curious as to how it worked. It does draw you in, but tbh I don’t keep going back to it to see if Someone-Or-other was murdered or if the scheme two other people came up with worked. I do mean to at the time I watch an episode, but then I just forget and don’t really care.
