To not get the Traitors

I'm listening to Scott Mills who has Harriet Tyce on. I know her primarily as an author. They're going on about it as if it's Operation Mincemeat. It's a telly game show not life or death.

I have watched it a few years ago and am not fussy. It's just another vehicle for people to be famous I guess.

You don't have to "get" it. It's not compulsory.

pouletvous · 21/01/2026 11:20

It’s great fun, a bit of light hearted drama for January

scott mills is hardly the Southbank Show is it! It’s light hearted and centred around pop culture

pouletvous · 21/01/2026 11:21

Perhaps give Radio 4 a go OP, I don’t think bbc 1 or radio 2 is suitable for someone as intelligent and cultured as you are

I had never watched it until this current season.

Previous seasons I'd been vaguely aware of, and heard people rave about, but never watched. I'd just assumed I think that it was another sort-of gameshow a bit like "I'm a Celebrity", which I've never got into either.

But having heard people rave so much about it, I thought I'd give this new season a go, and I've been HOOKED. I've absolutely loved it. And all the old seasons are on iPlayer, so I might well go back and watch them as well. I'm going to start with the celebrity one, even though I know who wins.

I'd go back and watch the series in order on iPlayer after this one - the first 2 series are so much better than this one (which is still good). The celebrity series is also excellent.

In the earlier series the players didn't really know what was happening etc so it was much more engaging to learn the twists and turns of the show at the same time as them. This time it's very obvious that all the players are totally clued up and have come in with pre-determined strategies, and therefore the show is having to add extra layers in to try and catch them out, which is diluting the appeal IMO.

BlackCat14 · 21/01/2026 11:37

I love it. But there are many things my friends/family love that I don’t. I think it’s very normal for some people to like things whilst others don’t.

So intelligent and cultured I read books by a Traitors contestant. Mwaha!

It's the OTT nonsense that irks me " tonight 1 of you will be murdered" err no you won't because that's illegal. 1 of you will be out of the game, nothing more, so stop with the " I'm too scared to sleep" dramatics.

We know they’re not actually murdered. It just adds to the drama much like a murder mystery party.

MagentaRocks · 21/01/2026 12:05

I love it. I don’t understand people who don’t ‘get’ things. We all like different things. I have never watched love island or MAFS and I doubt I ever will because it’s not my type of thing but I don’t think people who do like it are wrong.

I like that people talk about the traitors. I have a group chat with 4 other people, it is a bit of fun, I don’t take it seriously and I don’t think people become famous off of it.

scrimblescramble · 21/01/2026 09:19

I'm another person who doesn't like it. A load of old tosh. Tried to get into it but was bored within the first 2 minutes

Each to their own but you can’t really judge something after only 2 mins.
And just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s ‘a load of old tosh’ 🙄

ImSweetEnough · 21/01/2026 12:19

Miloarmadillo2 · 21/01/2026 09:16

We love it, and it’s so unusual now to have something that everyone watches live and talks about the day after.

Yes! This is what I love about it.

LindorDoubleChoc · 21/01/2026 12:19

What is Operation Mincemeat?

TheToothFairy999 · 21/01/2026 12:21

I’ve no interest in it either and gave up on it after the very first episode. It just doesn’t appeal to me.

I agree, it’s “event” TV isn’t it! I love watching it live every night, the WhatsApp groups going off, and everyone talking about it.

MargoChanningsglass · 21/01/2026 12:29

I love it and will keep watching but I feel production more involved in this series, it feels more processed than the others.

But its good to talk about as programmes are all over the place on different platforms.

So will keep with it if just for Claudia's clothes

HundredsandHundreds · 21/01/2026 12:31

Well, welcome to my world as regards football. I don’t get why you would outsource your happiness to a bunch of millionaires kicking a ball into a net, any more than you’d lose you shit at the sheer excitement of two snails crawling up a wall. I get that a lot of people enjoy it, but I wish there were special tv channels for that kind of thing so I’m not frequently coming across that particularly mindless football crowd roar or three pundits in bad knitwear saying things like ‘It’s early doors for Trossard’.

financialcareerstuff · 21/01/2026 16:36

It’s the one thing my lovely sixteen year old daughter proactively invites me to do with her - we watch then chat about it, and it’s a connection I’m grateful for. 😁

NerrSnerr · 21/01/2026 16:42

If you don’t like it that’s fine- everyone likes different things. I’m not sure what there is to ‘get’. Can’t be that hard to understand why people enjoy it. There’s loads of popular things I haven’t seen, Game of Thrones, Stenager Things etc. I just don’t fancy watching them but I certainly ‘get’ why they’re popular and I’m certain they are high quality shows.

I think some people need reminding that because they don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s bad or they’re superior for not liking it- we just all like different things.

Dontcallmescarface · 21/01/2026 17:36

Shedmistress · 21/01/2026 09:45

They dont really murder people. Its just a game.

Yes I am aware but it's all a bit pathetic really. Grown ass people "too scared to sleep" because they might get a bit of paper shoved under their door.

Taytocrisps · 21/01/2026 17:46

I watched one series because everyone was talking about it and I was curious. Then I got hooked and watched it through to the end, to see who would win. However, it's a bit pointless really and I probably won't bother watching any more series.

climbintheback · 21/01/2026 17:48

I liked the celebrity one - the others - nah tinny!

CornishYarg · 21/01/2026 18:12

We love it; DS particularly loves talking about it after and trying to predict the traitors' next move.

We sometimes used to play Mafia at uni, which is one of the parlour games it's based on. So it brings back happy memories of those days too!

I’ve never taken that comment literally. They’re just playing the game!

Middlemarch123 · 21/01/2026 19:12

It’s a step up from most tv quiz shows. It’s not as great as it thinks it is, I don’t care about Claudia’s outfits, make up, or her fringe. I think it’s quite telling that it’s seen as major tv. Shows how poor most tv is. Sometimes I watch it, but it doesn’t grip me.

ThatCyanCat · 21/01/2026 19:19

You're not being unreasonable not to enjoy a TV show even if it's popular.

What else needs to be said?

Sahara123 · 21/01/2026 19:19

BlueJuniper94 · 21/01/2026 09:18

I agree re shared experience but that's exactly why it's a shame it bores me rigid.

Eta: I do like Claudia's outfits but FAR too much makeup, it's distracting

Edited

I personally find her rather annoying, and I wish she’d cut her bloody fringe, it’s getting ridiculous now!
