I'm listening to Scott Mills who has Harriet Tyce on. I know her primarily as an author. They're going on about it as if it's Operation Mincemeat. It's a telly game show not life or death.

I have watched it a few years ago and am not fussy. It's just another vehicle for people to be famous I guess.

It probably is difficult to sleep, they know they're going to be the focus of the nation's attention and possibly criticism when it airs, and when you're in the bubble of it it must be very psychologically challenging.

tinyspiny · 21/01/2026 19:53

I don’t like it either , watched a bit of the celebrity one but found that a bit dull but if other people like it then that is there concern . I’ve spent the afternoon watching cricket which I’m sure wouldn’t entertain most people .

Redragtoabull · 22/01/2026 23:02

I can't deal with the theatricals, so for that reason I'm out 👉

BeefAndHorseradishSandwich · 22/01/2026 23:12

We love it. I can’t believe what happened at the round table tonight, can’t wait for tomorrow!

I'd go back and watch the series in order on iPlayer after this one - the first 2 series are so much better than this one (which is still good). The celebrity series is also excellent.

In the earlier series the players didn't really know what was happening etc so it was much more engaging to learn the twists and turns of the show at the same time as them. This time it's very obvious that all the players are totally clued up and have come in with pre-determined strategies, and therefore the show is having to add extra layers in to try and catch them out, which is diluting the appeal IMO.

I totally agree with this. My friend works in TV production and long before series one was aired she’d sent me a press release about it and said she thought we would like it - and she was right. We were absolutely glued to it. We live in different parts of the country and would watch it “together”, live, chatting on WA. And we’re still very much at it with this series, and the shows in between, but I pretty much said exactly what your post says to her this week.

I liked the celebrity version less, because I already “knew” most of the players. I also felt they were less scheming and ruthless because they were playing for charity rather than a large sum of money that could change their life.

Oh I don’t think it’d losing its appeal, I think it gets better every series, more outrageous; and this series is epic. I’m actively looking forward to tonight to see who goes.

But I also thought celeb traitors was brilliant, which I think is a common opinion.

Ha, you're the only other person on the planet who doesn't like it. Each to their own and all that but I don't understand why people get so obsessed by it.

Another one here .

BCBird · 23/01/2026 07:30

I don't understand the attraction either.

GardenCovent · 23/01/2026 07:47

When you say you don’t get it do you mean you don’t understand the concept of the tv game show or you don’t get the appeal of the tv show?

Yes I thought I should have clarified. I don't understand the general obsession on the radio and other TV about it. It's just a TV game show.

Sure, but many of us think it’s an excellent one plus rhe behaviour is outrageous at times, it’s v different to a normal tv show.

I think it's because it's one of the few programmes which is being watched live by large groups of people and is being watch by multiple generations.

That's quite unusual now.

ThatCyanCat · 23/01/2026 11:18

It's a massive hit, with viewing figures hovering around 11 to 12 million, which is spectacular. However, for context, there are around 50-55 million adults in Britain, so if you don't watch it, you aren't actually very unusual.

greglet · 23/01/2026 11:44

I’ve never watched it and have no desire to. I’ve never really seen the appeal of game shows or of reality TV (I did love Big Brother as a teenager and watched the 2018 series of Love Island, but apart from that I’ve never followed reality TV). It annoys me that the coverage is so ubiquitous because it’s boooooooring.

How do you know something is boring if you've never watched it?

is it boring? You don’t watch so I don’t see how you’d know.

LittleBitofBread · 23/01/2026 12:17

Dontcallmescarface · 21/01/2026 17:36

Yes I am aware but it's all a bit pathetic really. Grown ass people "too scared to sleep" because they might get a bit of paper shoved under their door.

It's a game, they're getting into the spirit and using their imaginations.

LittleBitofBread · 23/01/2026 12:18

Taytocrisps · 21/01/2026 17:46

I watched one series because everyone was talking about it and I was curious. Then I got hooked and watched it through to the end, to see who would win. However, it's a bit pointless really and I probably won't bother watching any more series.

I'd love to know what TV programmes are pointful. What are the criteria?

LittleBitofBread · 23/01/2026 12:23

BigKnickersSize18 · 23/01/2026 10:15

Yes I thought I should have clarified. I don't understand the general obsession on the radio and other TV about it. It's just a TV game show.

There's the 'hooks' of each episode ending on a cliffhanger/mystery. The fact that we know the basic rules, but new rules and twists and complications keep getting introduced. The fact that people are playing for money, which often means a lot to them, for various relatable reasons.
Those things are all interesting to the human mind and emotions.
And it's all about people's interactions, relationships, strategies and motivations, which is always going to interest other people because we're social animals.
Then there's the gorgeous country setting and castle; the action and jeopardy of the missions; Claudia's clobber; the overall aesthetic of grandeur/Gothic/camp.
There are lots of points of interest.

Ohpleeeease · 23/01/2026 12:29

I understand why people have latched on to it, it’s just one of those programmes which has caught the imagination and people also like to be in on a trend so the more it’s talked about the more fans it gathers.

I don’t find it remotely engaging but I can see how others do.

It's the OTT nonsense that irks me " tonight 1 of you will be murdered" err no you won't because that's illegal. 1 of you will be out of the game, nothing more, so stop with the " I'm too scared to sleep" dramatics.

But that’s why it’s fun - it’s so camp!

localnotail · 23/01/2026 13:09

I'm just going to support OP - I dont get it, have no interest in the show. Also, I dont get Claudia Winkleman - she looks so weird I just cant deal with it. I cant' take her seriously or listen to her.
