Traitors is a negative influence on society

The TV show Traitors is an example of society breaking down not just a bit of fun entertainment. It glorifies and rewards deceitful behaviour. I can’t actually believe so many people watch it and encourage their kids to watch it as if it is a good thing.

OP posts:

Surely it’s better than love island or big brother @Listenup99?

It’s like a murder mystery show and the traitors do normally show remorse the further the show goes on for being deceitful.

Dragonflytamer · 18/01/2026 08:32

I think most people understand that it is people playing a game. There doesn't seem to have been a large uptick in people getting murdered.

CasperGutman · 18/01/2026 08:38

Come off it. It's just Wink Murder with a bigger costume budget.

Imdunfer · 18/01/2026 08:43

I'm guessing that the people who can't see an issue with deception and manipulation being used to get hold of a large sum of money also don't know about subliminal advertising and why adverts that are too short for you to even realise you've seen them are banned on TV?

Nope. It's just that we understand the difference between real life and a game.

Are the people playing it and those watching, using and seeing deceit and manipulation win a big award not actually alive at the time?

You’re being ridiculous. It’s a game where the rules are clear. The deception is upfront and everyone playing knows that there are people acting as traitors. They aren’t really being deceived and the traitors aren’t really killing people.

If someone is unable to grasp these very simple concepts then perhaps grown up television isn’t for you.

They’re playing a game where people are acting out a particular role.
Most people watching it know they are watching a game being played out in front of them.

Do you honestly not see the difference between people playing a game where they know in advance that others will be trying to deceive them, and people being unwittingly or unwillingly defrauded by criminals or manipulated by businesses?

People batting each other off platforms and pulling each other off the monkey bars is wholesome?

People playing a detective, role playing game is a negative influence?

And let's not forget, all while scantily clad ... 🙄

boredoflaundry · 18/01/2026 09:42

There is so much more to worry about!

im watching traitors with teens. Its funny. Sometimes it’s boring. It shows SOCIAL INTERACTIONS WITHOUT PHONES, it shows different people feelings and approaches to situations and different reactions and perspectives to the same interactions.

isn’t that a huge life lesson in “not everyone thinks the same”?!

have you seen a murder on traitors, they literally get a letter in a yellow arm chair! … it’s not like anything grim is acted out or simulated.

OP needs to educated themselves. BBC player. (& you’ll find much more disturbing family viewing on their too if you look!)

You’ve missed the point of the post you’re replying to completely… They’re not trying to “steal” the prize, they’re attempting to win it! It’s a game and they’re playing it alongside everybody else…

Believing that the “faithful” are any more entitled to the prize than the “traitors” simply because Claudia didn’t touch them on the shoulder at the start of the show is ridiculous, and makes me worry that you can’t differentiate reality and fantasy at even a basic child-like level.

No they are replying to me! I am the original poster here.

Traitors do steal the prize. Thats why you only need one at the end and trump a faithful.

Honestly I though posting on here would be some interesting discussions but I am just having a bunch of people message me like numpties who don’t understand the game, don’t read the comments properly, don’t understand what I am saying and are then sending stupid comments; ironically saying I am stupid.

Sorry you are 3rd or 4th poster now. I cba

We understand the game but you worded your post clumsily which has resulted in a few people interpreting it in a particular way.

We aren’t ‘numpties’ and we can read. In fact, after your response yesterday I re-read your post a number of times and I still interpreted it the same way. As did others.

It’s easily done, we’ve all done it! No need to call people names.

10 years ago, people might have thought that but these days, almost everyone is very aware that reality tv is edited to tell a story.

Years ago BB had a live feed. The stuff that was on the 9pm show was highly edited to provide a narrative for the evictions. The day they stopped the live feed was the day I stopped watching it.

In this Traitors (I love the show btw), there was a bit when the Traitors had to put red paint on the family tree painting against certain contestants.

Next morning, one of the faithful just randomly stopped at the painting and saw it. IMO is wasn’t random. It was scripted.

I rewound it a few times but she definitely didn’t randomly stop.

Put me off a bit but I’ve persevered!

I think you’d better stick to CBeebies and books for under-6s, and never play any board games ever, if you have these issues.

The traitors don’t “steal” anything. They are playing to win a game just like the faithfuls. It’s a game ffs.

I think it’s boring and up itself, but I would t say harmful. Just don't watch it.

I really believe it, posting because I. Know it isn’t an acceptable view to most people and many will think I’m ridiculous but I honestly think it is a really negative influence.

Think for a moment- as a nation - this is one of the most popular family focused cultural happenings - people choose to watch and glorify a bunch of half famous random people be duplicitous to each other as if they are killing each other. This is what we choose to spend time doing and endorsing. Weird.

Or … people choose to watch it as a family, have great fun doing so, and take the opportunity (which is sat there on a plate) to discuss personal and social values with their young people 🙄

They don’t steal the prize any more than the faithfuls steal the prize from the traitors if they win.
The money doesn’t belong to anyone. Everyone is playing for the same prize.
