Traitors is a negative influence on society

The TV show Traitors is an example of society breaking down not just a bit of fun entertainment. It glorifies and rewards deceitful behaviour. I can’t actually believe so many people watch it and encourage their kids to watch it as if it is a good thing.

Yeah. Let's ban poker and Cluedo as well while we're at it.

And Simon Says. All that trying to trick people is just shocking in the name of fun!

Small price to pay to see Claudia’s outfits.

Amen ✊🏻

My friend was watching it. I wasn't. After it had finished I asked her to explain the show. We both agreed it was worrying. There will be some people who view it simply as a show. This for me is worrying for society.

why did you find it worrying?

Tooobvious · 17/01/2026 10:33

Strangeencounter · 17/01/2026 10:14

I think it’s quite an interesting philosophical question. I don’t agree with what you are saying tbh OP.

The question I find most interesting is why the faithful feel they deserve it more than the traitors. They didn’t choose their position. So why should they be excluded from the chance of winning the prize just because they are the ‘bad’ side.

They aren’t.

You could say the same about any team game.

DoveTurtle · 17/01/2026 10:33

I’ve been hiding under my bed ready Harry Potter since the first season aired!

Allergictoironing · 17/01/2026 10:34

Better not let anyone read or watch anything to do with history, especially around the Medieval period, then! Constant lying, cheating, murdering, warring etc. so must be a bad example to people today.

My view is that we learn from the past, and in the same way we can learn from reality shows like The Traitors. The biggest difference I can see between the show and typical office life these days is that in the show the traitors are selected by someone else, whereas in today's office environment the person who lies, cheats, exaggerates & back stabs for their own advantage chooses their role. The "faithfuls" in the office have no idea that anyone would be doing that, and usually only find out the very hard way.

The prize money isn't really THAT enormous as some above have suggested (1 season just over £100k, 2 seasons so far a little under that). Around 5 year's minimum wage salary or about 1 year's salary for many MNers. Cooperation and hard work, combined with a little unselfishness, is the only way the prize pot can get up to those levels which I think is a very useful lesson.

Are you trying to imply that those of us who "view it as a show" are somehow inferior to you and your friend who find it "worrying"?
(You, who didn't even watch it...🤦‍♂️)

… and then we all watch and empathise, and pay and congratulate the most duplicitous one at the end? That’s right isn’t it?

Wtf, it's a game show. Do you feel the same about people winning quiz shows by beating others? Traitors is a game that's all and me and Dh love it! You do realise it's not real?

ShiftingSand · 17/01/2026 10:38

You can choose to not watch it, which is what I’ve done. I don’t want to tie myself down to the same thing every evening along with the masses. As a parent you can make the choice to not let your kids watch but it seems an overreaction to a piece of entertainment.

Strangeencounter · 17/01/2026 10:42

Tooobvious · 17/01/2026 10:33

I don’t know if you could. What’s interesting is they see themselves as honest and innocent and vulnerable, and the inverse for the traitors. But they are both doing the same thing mostly. They too are voting people off and evicting people/ going after people.

In a way it’s worse because they don’t even have any reason or justification most of the time.

Strangeencounter · 17/01/2026 10:43

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 17/01/2026 10:34

They aren’t excluded from winning the prize.

What. That’s literally the premise of the game. For traitors to try to steal the prize and faithfuls to try to stop them.

Easterchicken · 17/01/2026 10:46

And greys anatomy glorifies doctors doing sweet FA because they are bonking each other in store rooms

Think you are taking things a tad too seriously love

Cheeky19863 · 17/01/2026 10:46

Oh bore off OP

PomegranateVase · 17/01/2026 10:47

I have zero desire to watch Traitors, it doesn’t appeal to me whatsoever. I've been forced to watch bits of it when I’ve been at other people’s houses and they’re shocked I don’t like it.

Listenup99 · 17/01/2026 00:41

Enjoying the replies so far 😆 knew this would go down well. As I say I do believe it irl but know many don’t agree! I also find rhat show where people marry each other randomly and love island are also truly negative societal trends.

if you met me irl you’d have no idea im this radical btw 😎

There is nothing radical about hiding behind a screen name with a strange opinion that you are not brave enough to share in the real world.

Just makes you a bit of a keyboard Karen

No, there’s a pot of prize money. It can be won by either traitors or faithfuls. It all comes down to who is left at the end.

If there’s a traitor left they win the money. So they aren’t excluded from winning. They can and do.

But the traitors aren’t excluded from winning. They can, and have done before.

zipperzapper · 17/01/2026 10:54

The guy who won traitors got slapped down on Celebrity SAS when he tried slacking about . That was the end of his TV career . Plus people will be very wary of him now

Strangeencounter · 17/01/2026 10:59

@blackcat and @HighLadyofTheNightCourt

I understand how the show works. I have watched every season.

You are not understanding what I am saying. Which is that many do not believe traitors deserve to win because they are knowingly dishonest.

You can literally see the comment below yours.

My point is the traitor behaviour is not much different in final effect to the faithful. The traitors do it knowingly because they can see the whole game. The faithful do it blindly and naively with the best of intentions but the results the same - the evict ‘innocent’ people. See even I am doing it. It is fascinating and I am not sure you get what I am saying.

doodiethewonderdog · 17/01/2026 11:01

It's the same as all of this crap tv - Love Island, Big Brother where people are celebrated for getting their tits out and being duplicitous. We have a generation raised on thinking they're all going to be famous because of this cheap tv. This is no different.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 17/01/2026 11:02

You say they are 'half famous' but they aren't famous at all. Only in Celebrity Traitors were they famous. Is Stephen Fry not fully famous? Jonathan Ross? Allan Carr? Charlotte Church, Celiac Imrie not famous enough?

You sound like my sister in law who thinks Strictly Come Dancing should be banned because it's too competitive.

When did someone get their tits out on Traitors! Must have missed that episode.
