To have got “The Ick” 20 mins into date?

Went on a date yesterday, just lunch. OLD.

We got talking politics to which he proudly announced “It’s UKIP all the way for me!”

I said “Do UKIP still exist??” To which he looked a bit worried and said “Err I’m not sure to be honest? I think so?”

how can you “support” a party that you don’t even know still exists?? So I said “well, did you vote for them last time?” And he said “I think so, I can’t remember to be honest ha!” ???? I said “May elections? Did you vote for them then?” So he dodged the question and asked who I voted for. I told him and he said “oh yes, me too - I remember now”

Everything else went fine but this small snippet of conversation has put me off. AIBU? BIL thinks this was on me for “badgering” him about his political choices but he was the one who brought politics up - as well as who he allegedly supported!

Are you actually listening to yourself ! , I’m not making anything up , that’s what was written , you read it wrong , won’t admit you glossed over it & never read it correctly.

Now if you’ll excuse me , I must go check on dinner .

Don’t forgot to top up your glass while you do that.

I BEG YOUR PARDON?! 😳😳🫣🫣🫣🫣

They really do walk among us. What the actual fuck 😳

How did you get out of that one?!!
Politely make excuses? Or genuinely run for your life?! 😳

Or tell him as you got up to go that what he said is absolutely disgusting and unacceptable, and a man like him will never ever feature in your life? Nothing to be polite about.

Definitely not unreasonable. Also if he's one of them how could he forget who he voted for? They're usually very determined about it.

What a loser. Both for being a UKIP voter (presumably he would now vote Reform?) and for not knowing that they weren't even a thing any more.

UKIP do still exist, but have gone full on Tommy Robinson/Katie Hopkins. Their leader is Nick Tenconi, who's also the only elected UKIP officeholder (he's on the Kent county council) and the COO of Turning Point. I think you'd be hard pressed to vote UKIP in most constituencies these days; most of their politicians, members, and supporters including the "Nigel Farage is my waifu" crowd went to The Brexit Party and now Reform UK.

Regardless of my own politics, I'd be unimpressed that he "proudly announced" "UKIP all the way" and then wasn't sure what he meant. Why not just describe his political position generally if he wanted, and say he just said he wasn't sure what party he'd vote for at the next election?

Tenconi isn’t elected to KCC. A Reform councillor there defected to UKIP.

If I was younger and was faced with the prospect of dating an idiot like this there would have to be compensatory requirements: he would either have to be very good looking and/or very good in bed.

Are you having lasagna?

Stop deflecting from having to apologise .
Don’t worry , I accept your deflective apology 😂 😂

Roast beef , carrots & Turnip , potatoes & gravy 😊

gallivantsaregood · 11/01/2026 17:07

I'd have left!

Happyjoe · 11/01/2026 17:08

He would be dead to me now. Sorry to say.

Nooo !
That is not what she said , she said she met with a guy that said he met with a woman who hadn’t had sex for a while & she said she would “ quite like to be raped “ to him !

No, that’s not what was said. The other poster is correct. Read that comment again.

WhatIsTheCharge · 11/01/2026 17:18

Wordsmithery · 11/01/2026 16:55

So you're put off by his lack of knowledge of his preferred party, not by the fact that he supports fascist scum?

The way I’m viewing this is that there’s a strong probability that he’s jumped on the flag-shagging bandwagon…..but probably doesn’t actually “support” any political party properly considering he didn’t even know what he was talking about. Sounds to me like he just chose some buzzwords he’s seen in the papers and on social media media to make himself sound like he’s got an interest in politics 🫠 but just ended up sounding like he’s so dense, light would bend around him 🫠
Like when you see the videos of reform supporters interviewed on the streets, they get asked questions pulled directly from information in the Reform manifesto (unrelated to immigration) and they are totally struck dumb and can’t answer because they have no idea what the party actually stands for outside of hating anyone who’s not white.

She isn’t deflecting. It’s a (very funny) reference to another thread. 🤣

How many people need to tell you that you got it wrong before you accept it, out of interest?

Duckiewasthefirstniceguy · 11/01/2026 17:14

I did read it again pp .
Am I being stupid & picking it up wrong ??
“ A woman I went on date with who hadn’t had sex for ages would “ quite like to be raped “.
I thought it’s in inverted commas cause that’s what she said to your man ??

MidnightMeltdown · 11/01/2026 17:25

Sounds like he knows absolutely nothing about politics but was trying to make out that he does. He’s probably never voted before in his life. It would give me major ick.

Teanbiscuits33 · 11/01/2026 17:26

It sounds like if he was any thicker, he’d set. Deeply unattractive and juvenile. I don’t like talking politics constantly because it’s tiresome, but to have such little knowledge of politics in the current political climate that you can’t remember who you voted for at the last election, never mind declaring you voted for UKIP, would be a massive ICK!

SparklyGlitterballs · 11/01/2026 17:26

Missj25 · 11/01/2026 16:17

No what are you on about actually??
PP said she once went on a date with a guy who said he met with a woman one time who said she would like to be raped !

This is a copy of that pp's comment...

"Biggest ick I got on a date was when he told me that a woman who hadn’t had sex for a while would ‘quite like’ to be raped."

Nowhere did they say he'd met this woman one time, or that this woman had said that sentence.

Fiftyandme · 11/01/2026 17:26

Nope. Big fat nope

It’s like one of those AIIBU threads where 99% say yes you are and the OP keeps doubling down with ‘no I’m not you’re all wrong’

Pog166 · 11/01/2026 17:28

If you're talking politics 20 minutes into a date it doesn't sound very promising, however coherent and harmonious the opinions on both sides may be. However, I am slightly surprised by the knee-jerk hostility on here to someone whose political views people disagree with. Dismissing everyone of a Brexity inclination as vile and thick didn't turn out to be very persuasive in the referendum campaign, did it? A close relative of mine texted all her contacts the day after the referendum, to say "I can't believe there's so little love in the world"; I replied that I didn't think she had read the EU Directive on the Importation of Duck Eggs in the spirit in which it had been intended. If you don't like someone's political views, what's wrong with trying to change their mind rather than just judging them and walking away?

I’d have got up and left after he said he supported UKIP.

You did well to stay as long as you did.

Biggest ick I got on a date was when he told me that a woman who hadn’t had sex for a while would ‘quite like’ to be raped.

Nope. Time to go home.
