To have got “The Ick” 20 mins into date?

Went on a date yesterday, just lunch. OLD.

We got talking politics to which he proudly announced “It’s UKIP all the way for me!”

I said “Do UKIP still exist??” To which he looked a bit worried and said “Err I’m not sure to be honest? I think so?”

how can you “support” a party that you don’t even know still exists?? So I said “well, did you vote for them last time?” And he said “I think so, I can’t remember to be honest ha!” ???? I said “May elections? Did you vote for them then?” So he dodged the question and asked who I voted for. I told him and he said “oh yes, me too - I remember now”

Everything else went fine but this small snippet of conversation has put me off. AIBU? BIL thinks this was on me for “badgering” him about his political choices but he was the one who brought politics up - as well as who he allegedly supported!

What are you going on about? Nobody told him she was ‘into’ this, it came from his own cesspit of a mind.

No what are you on about actually??
PP said she once went on a date with a guy who said he met with a woman one time who said she would like to be raped !

Last I heard of them it was Farage. I thought they died when he left

so he votes Reform - a massive ick! a big no from me!

I would be strangely unavailable if he messages again. It's fine to feel the ick on a first date, that's what they're for. I once went on a date and the way he said "ice and a slice? " every time he went to get me a drink really put me off!

That made me laugh so much I have a horrible feeling it will pop into my head and I'll end up saying "Ice and a slice?" next time I'm in a pub before I've properly remembered why its funny.

No, he didn't say he'd met a woman who had said that. He said that in his opinion, that he believed... that women who hadn't had sex in a while would quite like to be raped.

Very different.

ThatCyanCat · 11/01/2026 16:27

I'd probably go on a second date if he offered, just out of sheer fascination and desire for a laugh. That's hilarious.

Nooo !
That is not what she said , she said she met with a guy that said he met with a woman who hadn’t had sex for a while & she said she would “ quite like to be raped “ to him !

lifeonmars100 · 11/01/2026 16:28

he's probably a Farage fan but a bit slow on the uptake and doesn't realise that he has created yet another party in an attempt to pave his way to Downing Street, Just as welll you found out so soon.

Negroany · 11/01/2026 16:30

It depends how interested in politics you are.

I'm very interested, but most people aren't. He probably didn't vote, many people don't. One of my friends is a doctor, she heard an MP on the radio the other day with a similar name to mine, thought it was my name and asked me if I had become an MP (since I saw her a week or so before, having never mentioned it, this MP is also Tory and I am well known for being very anti Tory) - she literally has that little interest in politics that she doesn't know what an MP is or how they are elected (she seemed to think I might have been "awarded" it or something for work I do in the community - which actually doesn't sound like a bad way to get MPs!). She doesn't understand political parties at all.

Anyway, I could not be with someone with so little knowledge or interest that they claimed to support a party they know nothing about. Nor someone who claimed to support UKIP, but that's a different issue really.

Yep. Whatever they’re calling themselves these days, I still see them as the BNP just with more expensive suits and a snake oil salesman as their spokesman.

Still the same knuckle dragging Neanderthals in the background

I love hearing dating ick stories

ruethewhirl · 11/01/2026 16:42

I'd have been out the door at 'It’s UKIP all the way for me', never mind the general cluelessness.

PragmaticIsh · 11/01/2026 16:45

Don't feel bad, at least your ick had a solid reason. I once walked up to a date and knew at fifty yards that he gave me the ick, it was like a physical reaction to his slicked back hair and fussy clothing. Somehow I'd not got that from his online photos, but in reality I felt repulsed. Had to sit through a drink to be polite before leaving.

Missj25 you have misunderstood The Light Side of the Moon's original comment. Everyone is just trying to point out your mistake.

Read it again and you'll see they are correct.

My dating ick was when he walked into a Saturday afternoon coffee date in a hideous cheap suit that looked like something dd by Mr Byrite in 1985, complete with a matching tie and pocket handkerchief and to complete the look, blue mirrored sunglasses that probably cost 5 euros from the looky looky man on Benidorm beach.

First and only time I picked up the whole tab just to get out of there

And this is why the bottom quintile should not be allowed to vote.

If only!! We'd still be in the EU and not an economic basket case.

UKIP do still exist, but have gone full on Tommy Robinson/Katie Hopkins. Their leader is Nick Tenconi, who's also the only elected UKIP officeholder (he's on the Kent county council) and the COO of Turning Point. I think you'd be hard pressed to vote UKIP in most constituencies these days; most of their politicians, members, and supporters including the "Nigel Farage is my waifu" crowd went to The Brexit Party and now Reform UK.

Regardless of my own politics, I'd be unimpressed that he "proudly announced" "UKIP all the way" and then wasn't sure what he meant. Why not just describe his political position generally if he wanted, and say he just said he wasn't sure what party he'd vote for at the next election?

What's a waifu?

So you're put off by his lack of knowledge of his preferred party, not by the fact that he supports fascist scum?
