This is hypothetically one of the options available to Greenlanders.

We're Scottish. I say no, DH says take the money and move.

Sorry, for some reason I can't enable voting. I get a No Entry sign

No. You could become that indebted over medical bills! But less selfishly, I couldn’t because of, you know, morals.

Playingvideogames · 09/01/2026 23:37

Greenland is a small (head count) country with a very high abundance of natural resources. Going independent isn’t a question - they’ll be picked off by USA/China/Russia. The question is who they select as their protector (if they don’t stick with Denmark)!

ArtesianWater · 09/01/2026 23:38

No, because I would see it as a stepping stone to WW3 and the resulting cost to humanity would be far greater than that.

scorpiogirly · 09/01/2026 23:39

I'd do it for free as things stand.

Purplebunnie · 09/01/2026 23:40

Nope not a chance

MsGinaLinetti · 09/01/2026 23:43

Yes

ARoomSomewhere · 09/01/2026 23:44

No. 2 reasons:
I'd not sell out my (or others) kids futures.
He's a rapist & a liar. He won't pay up.

winterbluess · 09/01/2026 23:45

Didimum · 09/01/2026 22:49

Yep. I’d do an awful lot for money. We’re all different!

I'm glad I'm not the only one voting yes 🤣

TheatreTheatre · 09/01/2026 23:47

No

IsThisTheWaytoSlamMyPillow · 10/01/2026 00:04

Wow - it’s a massive - and very good - question TBH @Mochudubh. My initial thought was “yup, gimme the money” but the more I think about it, the greater the moral dilemma. If this could be bought where would it all end? What else might be asked of us.

I feel awful that I could be tempted and be so fickle but my thinking was that the massive amount of money would mean my family and I could distance ourselves from the impact of the worst outcome, because the money would give us greater opportunities, but that’s so selfish and in real life I’m not a “I’m alright, fuck everyone else” person.

Pretty glad I’ll never have to make that choice!

Howmanycatsistoomany · 10/01/2026 00:08

Your DH would sell out Scotland to Donald fucking Trump? LTB 😂

eta nope, no chance!

PGmicstand · 10/01/2026 00:14

No

TheSalvadorsStickbymebaby · 10/01/2026 00:33

He's emboldened from his exploits with Venezuela .
Right now he's the most dangerous man on the planet along with his master Putin.

midsummabreak · 10/01/2026 00:35

No

Hohumdedum · 10/01/2026 00:36

"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?" springs to mind.

That's a no.

Twilight7777 · 09/01/2026 23:02

Can’t believe people would turn down the money!

I wouldn’t take a single penny from a rapist. I also don’t hate my children or the other people who live around me.

NemesisInferior · 10/01/2026 00:44

Not for all the money in the world.

Trump is a rabid cesspit of a human being and I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire. I certainly wouldn't sell my country out to him.

OonaStubbs · 10/01/2026 00:44

If it came along with US citizenship I would take it in a heartbeat.

ClareBlue · 10/01/2026 00:45

People make decisions to earn money to do what they want with that aren't for the common good or beneficial for their society every day. This is no different. Why wouldn't you.

ShowMeTheSea · 10/01/2026 00:47

Shakeoffyourchains · 09/01/2026 22:30

Not a chance in hell. I'm not a selfish prick and wouldn't throw future generations under the bus like that.

Same. Not everything's about money.
I say this as someone who's not exactly rich either!

Livelaughlurgy · 10/01/2026 00:52

I can't imagine it would be given without strings. So assuming he only pays up for success, that's 51% of the population at minimum that has it. What's that going to do to housing and the cost of living. Then you potentially lose healthcare and education benefits. Will you be a state or a territory? Will you have representation in government, will you have a vote? Will your taxes support your own budget or go to the states? What about your natural resources? Is a green card or citizenship being offered? Moral issues aside, logically there's no amount of money I'd sell my freedom for- especially to someone I don't trust.

Jugganorks · 10/01/2026 00:53

No. Because once everyone around me has a million pounds too, the value of that money goes down and we’d be left with politics of a country very different to our own. So FO Trump.

sleepwouldbenice · 10/01/2026 00:55

I think they might say yes for £1m sadly. It’s a thought I have had myself about what may happen
it would be a pity
but at least it actually would be their choice
there are plenty of countries in the world rich in mining assets where the residents are devastatingly poor

ClareBlue · 10/01/2026 00:58

ShowMeTheSea · 10/01/2026 00:47

Generally everything is about money.
We never really have these choices as stark as this but we subtly make them every day. Not everyone, but very common to:
Sacrifice time with our children to earn money to give them opportunities. Sacrifice mental health by working too much to pay for holidays to not be at work.
There's no common good when it comes to your children.
Would you take the million if your child could access life saving treatment for that million.
That's the problem with these questions, easy to answer when they are not real, but not so easy if they are real.

Greycheck · 10/01/2026 01:00

Yes definitely. There's not much I wouldn't do for a million tbh.
