This is hypothetically one of the options available to Greenlanders.

We're Scottish. I say no, DH says take the money and move.

Sorry, for some reason I can't enable voting. I get a No Entry sign

A million?! Of course.
And I’ve just checked there are 55,000 inhabitants, it’s not a completely out of the question proposal 😳

Shakeoffyourchains · 09/01/2026 22:30

Not a chance in hell. I'm not a selfish prick and wouldn't throw future generations under the bus like that.

Sminty2 · 09/01/2026 22:31

No.

RessicaJabbit · 09/01/2026 22:31

Lol, no.

TakeMe2Insanity · 09/01/2026 22:31

Hell no!

Seventyandlovingit · 09/01/2026 22:32

No

sittingonabeach · 09/01/2026 22:32

No

EmeraldDreams73 · 09/01/2026 22:32

Absolutely not.

Lazychains · 09/01/2026 22:32

I wouldn't trust him to actually pay it

MovedlikeHarlowinMonteCarlo · 09/01/2026 22:33

I'd like to say no but a million quid? I'd probably accept it tbh.

Actually this is a good point. He lies.

MissMarplesKnittingNeedles · 09/01/2026 22:34

No, because much as I’d like the million pounds, seeing Trump ranting like a spoiled toddler because he hasn’t got his own way would be priceless.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/01/2026 22:34

No.

MigGirl · 09/01/2026 22:34

No because, I'd probably end up having to spend it all on healthcare. So not a great investment for me.

Tigerbalmshark · 09/01/2026 22:34

Who would want to be a First Nations person living in the US (in general, and under this particular government)? I suspect they would not be “full” citizens, more like Puerto Rico.

And it is clear Trump just wants Greenland to strip it of its natural resources. I wouldn’t want my hometown turned into a polluted open cast mine guarded by the US military, even if I had £1m.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/01/2026 22:34

No. And since many Greenlanders are indigenous people, who will be well aware of the poisoned chalice of colonisers buying land that’s not for sale, I suspect they won’t either.

MoFadaCromulent · 09/01/2026 22:34

I'd be like Jonah Hill in the diner in wolf of wall Street

That's 55 BILLION pounds. Where is the money coming from?

No way I would sell my soul to America and Trump.

.

RudolphTheReindeer · 09/01/2026 22:35

No, but what happens if some say yes and some say no? If I thought it would end up happening anyway I'd take the money.

LavenderBlue19 · 09/01/2026 22:35

A million quid but live under Trump's rule? And everyone else has a million too, so house prices etc will go up because everyone else can afford a bigger house?

Nah.

DeepBlueDeer · 09/01/2026 22:36

Without the immediate threat of a swift invasion, it's a hard no.

Even under the threat of invasion, if there was any plausible prospect of repelling it, still a no.

In the position of a Greenlander, where it's looking increasingly like "take the money, or dont take the money and lose everything", it's a harder calculus.

NotTerfNorCis · 09/01/2026 22:37

No. I wouldn't trust his promise, and also, if lots of people got a million then there would be massive inflation and the actual value of one million would crash.

Okayfenokay · 09/01/2026 22:37

If i lived in greenland fben of course i would. It's a complete no man land. Anyone with any nouse has left and gone ti denmark.

Solaire18381 · 09/01/2026 22:38

No. No amount could take the place of personal safety and the problem they have with a particular aspect of that. Same healthcare, I wouldn't trade our NHS (or any government style healthcare) to have a US style insurance health "service".

I love visiting the USA and have been many times and visited many States. Would I want to be part of it, living in their territory? Not a chance.

BillieWiper · 09/01/2026 22:38

I don't know...I would not trust him to give a million to each person and then just leave them alone.
