Military conscription

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 09/01/2026 10:25

There is lots of talk about if ww3 happens then military conscription will happen

This is basically people who sit in an office safely saying we need to either send ourselves or out children to fight and die in horrible conditions

Am I unreasonable to think that anyone who thinks this is a good idea

They should be the first ones to sign up and to lead by example

Any politicians who think this is a good idea, there children should be the first to go

Russia is literally sending troops in wheel chairs and crunches to the front line

So age, disability and gender will not be a problem for anyone who supports any conscription policy's, they can go first

Also the UK will not be invaded, we are not Ukrainian, If we were more like Ukraine I would be more in favour of this as the country itself is under threat

If there comes a time when we have to step up to defend ourselves, I very much hope there will be many, many people who are ready, willing and able, unlike the OP who sounds like a real milquetoast.

TessSaysYes · 09/01/2026 14:11

Places like Finland and Poland are preparing for war. And paradoxically, it makes war less likely.

MidSurreyNightsDream · 09/01/2026 14:11

@BobbinogProbably because the government are well aware that the said new arrivals intrinsically hate this country, its people and our values. That’s why many would argue that we are already being ‘invaded’.

I'm surprised no political parties have suggested that in order for young, male asylum seekers to get leave to remain then they have to do 5-10 years compulsory conscription into the army.

I wouldn't put that past some politicians.

However in reasonably informed discussion elsewhere on that idea one worry often expressed, especially by some have seen active service fairly recently, is where would those conscripts' loyalties actually lie?

HoorayHattie · 09/01/2026 14:16

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 09/01/2026 14:09

I'm thinking something similar for the people who think conscription is a good idea

Family battalions

Husbands and wives (equal rights)

With their children (boys and girls)

Charging the Russian drones together

Fighting for freedom 💪🏻

Sorry, I didn't realise you were being facetious otherwise I wouldn't have posted something so poignant

There's a saying similar to "They who ignore history are doomed to repeat it"

Please have a thought for those families I posted about . . .

CrapNewYear · 09/01/2026 14:17

So if the US decides to annex Greenland your expectations are that everyone else ie not you or yours, has to sort it out.

Just keep your fingers crossed that the orange idiot is only sabre rattling.

Can you please confirm that you personally and your children will step up for active front line duty?

Before you criticise others you must be ready yourself

The Americans already do. But then they sometimes deport them afterwards. Like twats. And typically the people who get citizenship for service are loyal soldiers.

Some countries do it for people who are specifically qualified. For example Spain with Latin Americans. I suppose we could do it for former colonies/commonwealth (who haven’t read their history and don’t despise us).

I hope my child would but I don’t control her.

I am very much too old but would be happy to do whatever I was capable of.

Can you confirm that you’d rather you, your children and everyone else in the UK do nothing in a WWIII scenario and then get killed by an enemy bomb on home turf or invaded by said enemy?

Chew us up and shit us out when they’re done is the simple answer.

The “resettlement packages” when you’re getting out are a joke….and I was mentally well when I got out.
But it is very much sign the paperwork, and “bye 👋🏻 our obligation to on to you is over now, rely on charities if you need help”

My husband is a veteran and I wholeheartedly disagree.

His resettlement package was generous and he used it wisely. He used every single one of his learning credits, because you get one opportunity and one opportunity only. His resettlement period was through Covid, so not all the courses he initially wanted to do were available so he sat with his resettlement advisor, went through everything with a fine tooth comb and found courses as close as possible to what he needed.

His resettlement advisor helped him every step of the way. She helped him with his CV and he checked in with him regularly. She was the one who contacted him because she heard about a vacancy that she thought would suit him down to the ground. It did, he got the job and was quickly promoted once he joined that company.

Upon leaving he was given an incredibly generous lump sum, his pension is more than a lot of people’s salaries.

Resettlement is like everything, it’s there to be used if you want to but as the saying goes “you can take a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink…”

DS1 is currently serving, the army are going to pay for his degree. Education is there if you want it.

"If you want peace, prepare for war"

In regards to conscripting immigrants - male immigrants in Finland that take Finnish citizenship have to do national service just like other Finnish males (unless over 30 when they get citizenship).

That sounds like a very poor excuse

Russia is sending people on crutches and wheelchairs

And it's people like you I am referring to

At least I am being honest

You criticise other people and expect someone else to go in your place

But then refuse to go yourself

You talk about sending other people

But when it comes to it, you personally would run and hide

Why is your life more precious than your neighbours?

Age is not an excuse.....ask Russia

Nice pro Russian bullshit. Men are dying every day. Caused by that cunt Putin.

Do you know any ukranians, before the war they were considered the human/child trafficking/organ donor etc capital (and hunter bidens fav holiday destination), the corruption is massive there and the goverment itself acts like bullies even with foreign citizens and businesses who bring money in- come into the office arrest all ukranian males, demand ransom from the company and rinse and repeat whenever they feel like it. Life is cheap including foolish british mercenaries lives who have gone there, british media dosent report how many have cried to let out of the 6month contract but have ended up with two choices- go behind the shed to be executed for refusing to go on a suicide mission or go on a suicide mission. In local ukranians news there are regular articles of foreigners inc british being found in reservoirs wirh hands tied up. Do you know how many ukranian men have been left on the fields and not retrieved- no body,no need to pay their wives and kids any money, its estimated the gov has saved already billion in usd by not paying salaries and for the men lost, hence regular protests in kyiv. You have no clue about the way ukranians operate. They are currently building europes biggest ski resort- what a prority during war time.

As I have been in receipt of a pension for some time and arthritis is gradually taking a hold, I beg to disagree

However, I would be more than happy to do what my great-grandmother did and make sandwiches and tea at railway stations for troops passing through on their way to embark on ships. I believe she also did a lot of knitting ~ socks, scarves and hats for military personnel

More bullshit propaganda. How very tedious

By not personally saying that you would serve on the front line

This is the point I am trying to make

Who thinks conscription is a good idea

But when push comes to shove you must personally back that up by going yourself

Age or gender will not be an excuse

I'm not going to discuss it. There's no point. Like playing chess with a pigeon
