Military conscription

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 09/01/2026 10:25

There is lots of talk about if ww3 happens then military conscription will happen

This is basically people who sit in an office safely saying we need to either send ourselves or out children to fight and die in horrible conditions

Am I unreasonable to think that anyone who thinks this is a good idea

They should be the first ones to sign up and to lead by example

Any politicians who think this is a good idea, there children should be the first to go

Russia is literally sending troops in wheel chairs and crunches to the front line

So age, disability and gender will not be a problem for anyone who supports any conscription policy's, they can go first

Also the UK will not be invaded, we are not Ukrainian, If we were more like Ukraine I would be more in favour of this as the country itself is under threat

Lots of Scottish people speak English.

I don’t understand what you’re trying to say.

The reason why lots of Ukrainians speak Russian as a first language is because Ukraine and Russia used to be part of the same nation (the USSR). Putin is wrongly using that to justify invading Ukraine.

England is not invading Scotland right now and saying it can because lots of Scottish people speak English.

For the time being isn't very reassuring when Russia is building up its troops near your border and is constantly engaged in hybrid warfare and keeps cutting communications cables. We're already at war with Russia really, just not a physical one. Yet.

Which country are you in? I don’t think Putin will go any further than what he’s currently doing for now because he is so focused on Ukraine. I have no idea though - I’m just an interested bystander and not any kind of military specialist. What do you think Putin will do?

Its not about being brave, its knowing there's no alternative, and there really isn't - only the rich and well connected will be able to flee if widespread war breaks out in Europe, and at some point even they won't be able to.

I'm not advocating migrating just when war breaks out, of course that would not be possible.

What I'm saying is that people should monitor the situation and assess whether immigration to a country less likely to be involved is a better option if it appears to be escalating and they are able to do so. At the moment this is not the case but our forces and government do seem very concerned about the possibility for conflict.

The point is more what will happen if he wins Ukraine. Will Poland be next?

They are very brave but Russia has far more numbers & a lot of war resources left.

I think I read many Russians came to Donbas when sent by Russia some years ago, with a view to enabling annexation?

He won't go anywhere else fo now because thanks to the bravery of Ukraine, it's leaders but most importantly it's soldiers Russia managed 40meters a day in it's effort to invade. That's why the cowards in Russia particularly the leadership are bombing homes and energy infrastructure.

Its why Trump gets on so well with Putin- two shit back cowards together.

He won't and Russia don't.

Sanctions are starting to take effect and the death toll is high.

Despite what his best buddy Trump is doing, the rest of the allies are sound.

What I’m saying is that lots of native Ukrainians speak Russian as a first language - for example, Zelenskyy. This is about Ukrainian adults who have lived their entire lives in Ukraine and who grew up speaking Russian. I’m not talking about Russians sent by Putin to live in Ukraine, speak Russian and Russify it.

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 09/01/2026 14:28

That sounds like a very poor excuse

Russia is sending people on crutches and wheelchairs

And it's people like you I am referring to

At least I am being honest

You criticise other people and expect someone else to go in your place

But then refuse to go yourself

You talk about sending other people

But when it comes to it, you personally would run and hide

Why is your life more precious than your neighbours?

Age is not an excuse.....ask Russia

I have no strong feelings either way.

just on the wheelchair and crutches point, won’t the wheelchairs get stuck in the mud? Surely this is a liability? Do you have verified images to share.

I am not being obstructive - genuinely would like to see pictures!

I wouldn’t fight for this government, I’ve seen how they treat war veterans.

You wouldn’t be fighting for this government, you’d be part of the fight against an oppressor, a challenge to this nation’s national identity and a threat to your life, or at best, being able to continue living a life as you choose.
People are so naive it beggars belief. As if they’d be able to exercise any choice in accepting or rejecting a military threat. Grow up.

Good point, sorry. I think the Donbas issue is more tied up with recent immigration but agree Russian roots clearly go deeper than this.

Hopefully. The death toll is high but he still has many more troops he can send. Surely it must stop at some point though- whatever else they think, most Russians surely don't want to lose their own or their male family ' lives to his 'special military operation'. Russian troops are notoriously brutal to their own men with horrible hazing rituals etc.

Russia spent nearly 10 years in Afghanistan. For nought.

It’s horrendous isn’t it. Idk how it can be sold in or the unconscionable loss to families there. Poor Ukrainians don’t want it either.

Just awful loss of life up to or over a million : (

The problem is that as conscription drags on - especially in a country as systemically corrupt as Russia - the quality of the troops sinks. And no army ever wasted training and equipment on the soon-to-die.

Contrast that with an army motivated not to fail because ... well because.

It’s just awful, there was a piece on using young people from Africa too as fodder pretty much, plus those from NK and the ‘meat grinder’ rhetoric.

Fucking horrible. One life and a leader is intent on doing that to sons, eugh just too much.

The old men who want this should go out and fight it personally, I wish.

Finland. Russia has been building up an old base near the border here.
I agree that he can't do anything beyond hybrid attacks for now but I do think he has plans beyond Ukraine. Military experts in my country think that as well, and they know the Russian threat well - pretty much all military training here is training to repel an attack from the East, and, as the saying goes, if the attack comes from anywhere other than the East, it just means the Russians have learnt to flank.

Immigrating outside of Europe isn't the easiest thing at the best of times and most people will be unable to do it anyway so its not a great plan. Better to make invasion less likely by being a country that's willing to defend itself and making sure the world knows that.

I read a story about an American family forced to flee the woke cesspool of America for the unsullied whiteness of Russia. The father was conscripted and hasn't been seen for months.

U.S. family moved to Russia to escape liberal culture and got drawn into the war with Ukraine

As many as 1,500 “ideological immigrants,” including 127 Americans, have applied for temporary residence in Russia in the last year.

Out of all the reports of deaths and injury I’m surprised this is linked. The direction of travel will be away from conscription for those who can.

And now I’m annoyed about the senseless deaths in an awful war Putin has enough land and resources to not do this. It’s just too much that anyone thinks 1 million need to lose life or be harmed to get more.

I agree for now the best thing is to strengthen defences while Russia is tied up in Ukraine, hopefully this will help deter.
