Military conscription

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 09/01/2026 10:25

There is lots of talk about if ww3 happens then military conscription will happen

This is basically people who sit in an office safely saying we need to either send ourselves or out children to fight and die in horrible conditions

Am I unreasonable to think that anyone who thinks this is a good idea

They should be the first ones to sign up and to lead by example

Any politicians who think this is a good idea, there children should be the first to go

Russia is literally sending troops in wheel chairs and crunches to the front line

So age, disability and gender will not be a problem for anyone who supports any conscription policy's, they can go first

Also the UK will not be invaded, we are not Ukrainian, If we were more like Ukraine I would be more in favour of this as the country itself is under threat

I think if there was compulsory consciption everyone and his dog would develop a 'mental health issue' which would prevent them from joining up. Plus the 'I have a neurodiversity so i can't fight' etc... Then anyone left would try their hardest to be a key worker in some form. Having lived through Covid I give up on the idea of community. People were so incredibly selfish in different ways.

Then the goalposts would just have to moved to include them. It’s been done before as wars progress and more people are needed.

Catwalking · 09/01/2026 13:10

hopefully some of these idiotic dictators will die soon, for whatever reason…

EasternStandard · 09/01/2026 12:54

This view is more palatable if the person saying it puts themselves up first.

If I had to, I would. Much prefer not to, but if push came to shove

Not the case at all, life in 80pcnt of ukraine is as normal minus some occasional air raids but people are so used to them bot everyone goes into the shelters anymore (i have family members doing business there and long time friends). Nightclubs, restaurants, supermsrkets, shopping centres,mc donalds, etc are open as usual- check google maps m, even dental treatment british tourists are going there as usual. What u say is spread by british media to keep funneling your taxpayers money to the ukranian laundrette.

Nice pro Russian bullshit. Men are dying every day. Caused by that cunt Putin.

Well I don’t know who you think is going to fight. All my life I have heard people running this country down - sneering at its culture, demonising its national heroes and telling us its history is shameful. The left have got complete control of academia, the arts and the publishing industry, and they have used their influence to make us hate ourselves. On top of that we have had mass immigration. Put the two together and you have a new country. The left have got what they wanted. They have imposed a new identity on me, and they can go and fight for it.

Perhaps you leave the country during the annual November commemorations?

ThreeSixtyTwo · 09/01/2026 13:16

There are many roles which aren't front line fighting.
In one of the similar threads people were writing about their grandmas being conscripted for post office services.

People saying you wouldn't fight for this government- governments are coming and going. Results of surrender often last decades.

The question is, do you value your lifestyle and values? Do you believe that there should be at least a part of the world where democracy and human rights mean something?
If the UK would decide to sit out a war in Europe, than the island of democracy and human rights would shrink around you.

PevenseygirlQQ · 09/01/2026 13:02

Why should my children, husband, brothers etc go to fight in a war that psychotic old men have caused?

Most people just want to live in peace and are dragged into war by power hungry men who have about 10 years left to live.

Hopefully the regular folk of the world make a stand we out number the warmongers in our millions!

I hear you. I also see a pp say we would not be in untrained cannon fodder territory but trained specialists, maybe so although some wars really are depressingly and unconscionably about fodder.

Well, there’s your first three volunteers OP 🤭

Did you just call someone who's actually in the armed forces "a volunteer"?

Deeply weird of you.

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 09/01/2026 11:25

I hope all the people who are for this

They and there families will be first to sign up

I think it's easy to say that we should do this as everyone always has an excuse why it should not be them

It's easy to assume it will be someone's else family and children who will go first and they will get to continue their lives as normal

But gender, age and any other reason should not be an excuse

If you think this is a good idea, you should go first

What do you want to happen ?
Just let Russia stroll in?
You just sit back and let everyone fight for you then
As it happens I think a dose of national service would teach some independence and toughen them up and realise that being called a name on social media is not anxiety inducing

This in spades. There is an entire army arriving on a daily basis from across the channel. Hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants, languishing in hotels. There’s your conscripted army sorted.

Well, if WWIII breaks out with actual combat involved, who are you expecting to save us? Armies will need more recruits, voluntary or othewise.

Seems like in your scenario a stark choice between remaining seated in one’s cosy office and dying there OR potentially dying in combat. But either way in a WWIII situation, dying is a very high risk whatever the choice.

Namechangetheyarewatching · 09/01/2026 13:40

I'm 55 and I would go tomorrow to help out.

I am able to shoot, run a range to train and have soldiering skills.

We would send children, an 18yr old isn't a child.

user1471538275 · 09/01/2026 13:41

I'll go happily before I send my children

I'd probably be more useful anyway.

I don't think they'll use conscription. Russia has used financial incentives as well as media propoganda quite effectively.

If we consider how quickly behavioural change was created due to fear and scaremongering in covid I think we can see how it could done again in a war situation, targeted through social media to convince young people that they should once again sacrifice themselves for the safety and protection of their 'elders and betters'.

What a great idea! Our younger generations once again damaged and harmed for the benefit of other generations, who pay nothing for what they have taken and do everything they can to take further from the younger generation.

No I'm asking what everyone thinks

I assume from you response that you and your family would happily join up when the army conscription officer turns up

I am glad that you are happy to fight for this country in some far off land

Can I ask how many children you have to help fight the noble fight?

I assume you will all get in the same regiment so you could fight together as a family

There is no way in Hell that I'm fighting for Starmer.

I’m curious, is it fighting for your country as governments will change.

Nobody wants a war.

first thing that will happen is that supply chains will vanish

next thing is that that medication will become restricted and essential only

state benefits will be disrupted

But go ahead and accept who ever wants to invade us.

usedtobeaylis · 09/01/2026 13:45

Absolutely nobody should be compelled to give their mind and body to war. The fact that in 2025 we are still accepting of war as a default state for the world to be in and debating the finer points of who would be conscripted is appalling.

Have you ever heard the history of the Pals Regiments during WW1?

"Pals Battalions in WW1 were volunteer units where friends, family, and workmates enlisted together, encouraged by patriotic fervour to serve side-by-side, with early examples forming from London stockbrokers and later in northern cities like Liverpool, Manchester, and Hull, creating strong local ties but leading to devastating losses when entire battalions were wiped out, famously on the first day of the Somme"

War is a ridiculous thing, used by politicians to gain more power at the cost of young people.

That young people from Russia and Ukraine, who have so much in common in terms of culture, language and even family are killing each other and killing both of their countries' futures is a tragedy to both.

I'm fairly sure they'd all rather by gaming.

Can you imagine a situation where our young men, children, husbands are conscripted and sent off to fight somewhere in Europe while tens of thousands of fit healthy young male asylum seekers remain in their hotels, far away from danger. There would be a civil war!

AmIthatSpringy · 09/01/2026 13:55

What is the alternative? War isn't consensual, it's ultimately one sided act.

You can react - defend, counter attack or surrender.
And you can try to prevent it, or not.

Saying "we won't fight" is effectively issuing an invitation to be invaded, because there won't be any resistance.

I'm surprised no political parties have suggested that in order for young, male asylum seekers to get leave to remain then they have to do 5-10 years compulsory conscription into the army.

Am sure they would be too. But since Russian young people ultimately acquiesced and joined the attack on Ukraine, how do you think Ukrainian young people should have responded - ignore the invasion and keep gaming?

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/01/2026 14:06

Haven’t RTFT but there are very good reasons women are typically not conscripted.

First, someone has to do the work at home. It may as well be women.

Second, the most important, is that you can repopulate a country with fewer men but you need as many women as you can get. Eggs are expensive, sperm is cheap. It’s a horrible thing. Mother Nature doesn’t care. The UK lost about 15% of its young men in WWI. Plus injuries and disabilities. Some countries like Serbia and France lost a much higher proportion. You can’t rebuild without the women.

Third, women are great for many tasks. We eat less, can starve for longer, can do a lot of endurance things well. Just as intelligent., great at many tasks. But when strength is a factor, whether that’s coal mining or front line infantry, men are better. Of course if people are flying drones, doing intelligence, whatever, great, ask women.

Another thing, when thinking about Russia in particular, is rape. As a weapon of war, and as a means of genocide. Russia is famous for it. Whole battalions of women coming back pregnant from being in POW camps? What would that do to society?

I don’t want conscription, for anyone. But war may be coming so I hope you have a plan for your family if you want the UK to roll over and give up.

I'm thinking something similar for the people who think conscription is a good idea

Family battalions

Husbands and wives (equal rights)

With their children (boys and girls)

Charging the Russian drones together

Fighting for freedom 💪🏻
