Made the lasagna without the lasagna

What to do?

Just prepped for dinner, did all the mince with tomatoes, onion etc and made the cheese sauce, boiled some potatoes and went to get the lasagna sheets and don’t have any.
Not feeling 100% so cba going to the shops, how can I make it into a proper meal? I have some pasta I could use instead, but what about the potatoes? Save them for tomorrow 🤷🏻‍♀️

Haven’t read all the thread bit bemused about potatoes and lasagne 🤔 why don’t you freeze the bechamel sauce and make shepherds pie

Oh you really must rtft. You're in for an absolute treaat.

Because a pasta dish or pasta bake with potatoes too just seems odd

You were making that anyway! I'm guessing you're not a natural cook!

There’s one pretend Italian who wants us to believe she wanders around “muttering” random
Italian words. Fucking bizarre 🤣

Probably had too much expresso, gone doolally.

You do know you can cook things in a pan that aren’t boiled in water don’t you?

Yes but they need to be *In something don’t they?-butter, olive oil etc, it’s ok a poster reminded me about milk 🤣

Boiled potatoes with lasagne is an unusual combination. It would be more usual to serve with green veg and more nutritious.
I'm so confused as to why you think pasta shapes with boiled potatoes is weird but flat pasta (lasagne sheets) is ok with boiled potatoes? You're using the exact same ingredients, it will just look a bit different on the plate!

I have some questions @Brainfogtothemax !

Why did you boil the potatoes hours before they need to be eaten, how were you going to heat them later?

Do you ever freeze or refrigerate food to use at a later date?

What veg do you have in right now? You can put the mince and tomato sauce mix in a dish, pile mashed potatoes on top, sprinkle with cheese and heat in the oven. Serve with veg on the side (green beans, broccoli or peas etc would add some vitamins). Freeze the cheese sauce for another day or refrigerate and serve with pasta tomorrow, alongside veg and protein of your choice, maybe cheesy tuna bake?

Or put the mince and tomato sauce as the bottom layer, cheese sauce on top of this and then put the mashed potatoes on top.

Another thing that's baffling me (along with the potatoes with lasagne, the potatoes being cooked hours before they're needed, the assertion that it's 'weird to have pasta and potatoes but not lasagne', the inability of the OP to figure out how to make a meal from the ingredients she does have) is that if you're not feeling 100% OP, why on earth did you decide that lasagne was the meal to make?! I avoid doing that on days where I feel 110% because it is such a FAFF. Don't get me wrong, I love a lasagne, and will occasionally give in to the faff in order to have one, but surely when you're feeling ill, that is the perfect time to just have something really simple...?!

I realised that halfway through, but it was too late

Redpeach · 05/01/2026 16:04

Ive never had lasagne with chips

FlyingApple · 05/01/2026 16:04

You could make them yourself, they are just as quick to do when you get the hang of it. (Serious)

Brainfogtothemax · 05/01/2026 15:57

I know 🤷🏻‍♀️

Don’t own a microwave

Omg so how were you going to reheat them?!

Were you cold afterwards

Just answer the fucking questions OP. Please, before we all go doolally like the fake Italian mutterer.

What was your plan for the spuds? How were you reheating them?

Why can’t you use deliveroo or Tesco whoosh like a normal person?

Anonanonanonagain · 05/01/2026 16:07

takealettermsjones · 05/01/2026 16:05

We will never get the answer to this 😂

Possibly in the oven with the meat and cheesey sauce thus technically making them roast potatoes and as an Irish woman who loves a spud I sure as shit could not get on board with lasagne and roasties. Im still queasy at the prospect of boiled spuds with it. How I will sleep tonight is beyond me.

Nor why we're apparently completely unable to eat a cold vegetable in winter 😆, even as a side to a hot meal!

Pallisers · 05/01/2026 16:07

This thread is bonkers. But just in case ....

Today have spaghetti bolognese - or use whatever other pasta shape you have with the ragu.

Put the potatoes in the fridge and tomorrow make potato cakes or fish cakes or slice them and fry them.

Put the sauce (whatever it is) in the fridge. Buy a cauliflower tomorrow and make cauliflower cheese.

333FionaG · 05/01/2026 16:08

A cauliflower? In winter? Are you mad? 😉

But it as white as the fallen snow outside so must be acceptable in OP's rules

Anonanonanonagain · 05/01/2026 16:10

All i want now is lasagna and i even have the sheets. Sadly no matter what way I chop it, cut it or mash it the stew I have in the slow cooker cannot be turned into a lasagne 😭

Nooo it was not allowed as both white, as in the potato salad.

(But buttered boiled potatoes are fine because... addition of yellow substance? System unclear)

They're good suggestions, all you have to do is boil the pasta and reheat the mince and sauce mix today. Nice and easy since you're not feeling well. I hope you feel better soon

I never said grilling 😅

you did! you said pop cheese on top and grill it.

Also, I had salad for lunch... and it's snowing! hahahahahahah mind fuck.

Ah, I assumed green not allowed because the trees are currently not in green leaf. But white vegetables ok as they match the snow and sky. Seems about as logical as anything else OP has said

Brainfogtothemax · 05/01/2026 14:06

Seems weird

I mean…you said it!

sittingonabeach · 05/01/2026 16:12

I have salad most days for lunch, even when snow on the ground. Have hot meal in the evening.

@Brainfogtothemax I might have missed this, but why did you cook the potatoes so early on?

Now, now, that's not the spirit. You just need a positive mental attitude, a panful of dried out spuds, some contraband cheese and your mother on the blower.
