I can't serve you, actually I will

I don't know if my mum rage is out of control but I went to Asda pizza counter and they were closing so I was told as soon as I joined the queue of 2 people that they were shut. They don't display time and the lights were on, so I was a bit annoyed.

I went to look at the premade pizzas, very annoyed but I didn't say anything to the lady. She then asked how many pizzas I wanted, I reminded her she was shut so why does it matter.

Aibu - either shut and be shut, or serve people?

I may be one of few who agree with you on this one - she was either shut or she wasn’t. I’d have been annoyed too. It’s not like you threw one in her face, you just decided not to divulge what your order would have been because she wasn’t open to receive that order anyway so what did it matter.

Why would she have asked if she wasnt going to offer something? 🤦‍♀️

PurpleFlower1983 · 03/01/2026 20:22

You were rude.

She was an arse by telling me straight away she was shut. And then rudely ask "how many pizzas do you want" without putting any context in it

She wasn't an arse by telling you she was shut. They close at a certain time, you went to join the queue and she has told you they were closed. So if she stayed open for you and then someone else joined the queue, is she meant to stay open until there is no queue?! Just because you want something and you are told you cannot get it, it does not mean you need to take this out on the person working there. 'I want' doesn't equal 'I get'. You are the rude one here.

Also, maybe she only had a certain amount of bases left, therefore that's why she asked you how many pizzas.

CyclopsElf · 03/01/2026 20:23

With nothing but care and peace I think you'll look back on this thread and realise yes you had a mum rage moment. I can completely imagine how frustrating this was. However, perhaps she was trying to help you out after reading your body language and thinking maybe I can do something rather than closing without helping her.

Sasha07 · 03/01/2026 20:23

Get a Snickers into you before you ever leave the house again. To quote the teens of today, it's just not that deep. She personally couldn't give a flying fk about how many you wanted, she was just trying to see if she could help you. It's just pizza, not your bank details.

ilovepixie · 03/01/2026 20:25

Isn’t the OP a delight!

TequilaNights · 03/01/2026 20:25

Prime example of the shit retail workers have to deal with!! Well done op...

25flyby · 03/01/2026 20:25

Yes she was closed.
But being an actual person rather than a jobsworth decided if you just needed something quick she could help.

Its not difficult. Maybe you wanted 10 complicated ones, in which case she'd have said no can do.

Ilovesandwiches · 03/01/2026 20:26

sounds like she was trying to be helpful? you either want the pizza or you don’t x

SixDozen · 03/01/2026 20:26

I feel sorry for anyone who works in retail.

KaleidoscopeSmile · 03/01/2026 20:26

mumanger · 03/01/2026 19:19

So?

Touche OP, you're clearly a giant wit

Bowling4soup · 03/01/2026 20:26

She could have said it more nicely. Like “I’m really sorry but we’re closing now” and I’m sure you wouldn’t have got angry in the first place

mammot23 · 03/01/2026 20:26

You was rude

sweeneytoddsrazor · 03/01/2026 20:26

Hopefully next time she sees you she tells you to have the get stuffed crust

UnhappyHobbit · 03/01/2026 20:26

I agree OP. It’s like she’s messing you about. I find my local pizza counter a bit like that. They clearly hate their job and want to make it as awkward as possible and try to make you feel like an inconvenience

MargotMoon · 03/01/2026 20:27

Classic MN AIBU:
OP - AIBU?
Pretty much everyone - Yes!
OP - No I’m not!

Why bother asking in the first place if you’ve got such a bad attitude?

Galatine · 03/01/2026 20:27

If you had said that to me you would has been wearing the pizza.
Not heard of anyone so entitled or lacking in grace for a long time.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 03/01/2026 20:27

Wow the rudeness of you.

ASDA pack up all the unused topping and wrap it for sale if it's that day's date/use by - I know this as I had a tray of meatball topping through my till on Wednesday.
And they do reduce the ready made pizzas if they are that day's date too.

InterestedDad37 · 03/01/2026 20:29

Why post in here?
You either know your reaction to the pizza event or you don't 🤷🍕🍍

it wouldn’t surprise me if she did.

Why should she grovel. It’s pizza counter closing time, they’re closed. Why does the worker need to be “really sorry” OP didn’t turn up within the many hours they’re open?

Skybluepinky · 03/01/2026 20:30

She saw you were unhappy, was kind and you were awful to her.

GrandHighPoohbah · 03/01/2026 20:30

Good grief, what a ridiculous thread. Situations change OP, no idea why you're being so rigid about the whole open/shut aspect. She rightly told you the counter was shut, to allow time to serve the customers ahead of you and close on time. It probably took less time than she'd allowed, she saw you were still in the vicinity so went to try and fit you in.

You need to assess people's actions as well as their words. Her asking you how many you wanted was clearly her re-opening the conversation and letting you know she might be able to fit you in, assuming you didn't want loads of pizzas. You were rude.

MyDeftDuck · 03/01/2026 20:30

🍕🍕🍕🍕 There you go OP…….pizza!

BillieWiper · 03/01/2026 20:30

mumanger · 03/01/2026 19:01

How is it kind? She told she straight away she wouldn't serve me. So I had to look for premade pizzas. So why then change? And it's "how many do you want" it wasn't "I can squeeze you in if you order just one". It was conditions.

How do you mean 'conditions'? Why would she ask how many you want if she wasn't going to try and quickly make them for you?
She was trying to be helpful? But why should she serve people beyond the time she's permitted or paid to do so? Clearly it didn't make you feel like a satisfied customer. Which is a shame.

Nobody wants to work in retail. I wonder why?
