I don't know if my mum rage is out of control but I went to Asda pizza counter and they were closing so I was told as soon as I joined the queue of 2 people that they were shut. They don't display time and the lights were on, so I was a bit annoyed.

I went to look at the premade pizzas, very annoyed but I didn't say anything to the lady. She then asked how many pizzas I wanted, I reminded her she was shut so why does it matter.

Aibu - either shut and be shut, or serve people?

Sorry but what on earth is 'mum rage'? Do you mean you are unable to control yourself and think being rude to shop assistants is OK?

HippoandtheScabbyBrats · 03/01/2026 19:46

I'd laugh if the Asda lady ends up reading this thread! 🤣

Butterfliesarebeautiful · 03/01/2026 19:47

mumanger · 03/01/2026 19:08

She was an arse by telling me straight away she was shut. And then rudely ask "how many pizzas do you want" without putting any context in it

So should she have let you wait and then tell you when you got to the front of the queue that she was shut? I can guarantee that her and her co workers had a good laugh at your attitude when you left and you will forever be known in the store as arsehead 🤣

HowIong · 03/01/2026 19:47

What’s “mum rage”?

couldthisbe2501 · 03/01/2026 19:48

I’d suggest you just order pizzas from o be delivered in future. That way, you get your pizzas and no one else has to have any dealings with such an obnoxious arsehole as you.

Eyeshadow · 03/01/2026 19:49

HowIong · 03/01/2026 19:47

What’s “mum rage”?

It’s a condition that only mums get.

It’s basically when someone is nice to you, it makes you irrationally angry and act like an absolute twat.

It makes you seethe all day and your only option is to make a MN thread but still refuse to accept you were in the wrong.

ForMyNextTrickIWillMakeThisVodkaDisappear · 03/01/2026 19:49

Mum rage? What’s being a mum got to do with being a rude, gobby mare for no good reason?

ittakes2 · 03/01/2026 19:50

It’s likely she went through the other customers more quickly than she thought and tried to be kind by squeezing you in before she left.
you are being unreasonable!

TheCompactPussycat · 03/01/2026 19:50

Mum-rage?

You know that behaving like a tantruming toddler isn't mum-rage, right? Stop trying to drag us normal people down to your childish level.

I suspect this is a wind-up but if it isn't, you need to take better care of your blood pressure!

nocoolnamesleft · 03/01/2026 19:50

There is definitely an arse in this story, but it’s not the poor Asda employee.

PortSalutPlease · 03/01/2026 19:51

mumanger · 03/01/2026 19:19

So?

Are you quite well, OP? This is all extremely disproportionate- both how rude you were to the poor Asda woman, and how snippy you are now. It’s not really a normal response to something so mundane.

Liverpool52 · 03/01/2026 19:51

HowIong · 03/01/2026 19:47

What’s “mum rage”?

Apparently it's a justification for being rude.

DarkLion · 03/01/2026 19:51

You genuinely sound unhinged. You post on a public forum unable to accept people’s answers about an Asda pizza of all things??

Telling you she was shutting isn’t a bitch thing, that’s her job, the time she’s told to close, the time she’ll become unpaid. No average person is going to serve you a custom pizza unpaid and actually when she had second thoughts, you were a bitch so deserve to have no pizza. No normal person would react in that way…. Over a pizza. And to still be stewing over it now, I genuinely think you need help. It’s not a normal response and it’s not mum rage either which isn’t a thing. Plenty of us are mums and wouldn’t react that way, what a great example to set your kids. Irrational rude disgusting behaviour.

You wouldn't see this sort of thing in Marks and Spencers. You get more of the upper crust in those establishments.

Oh I have seen a few entitled well to-do people in John Lewis embarassing themselves 😂

UninitendedShark · 03/01/2026 19:52

I’m a mum and I’ve never had the kind of rage that makes me act like a cow to a shop assistant.

FastFood · 03/01/2026 19:55

HowIong · 03/01/2026 19:47

What’s “mum rage”?

It's a documented phenomenon that occurs when a mum HAS to look at ready-made pizzas.
There are many precedents in history.
Alexander the Great's mum suffered such a rage, same as Anne Boleyn. Don't believe what scholars say about Henry VIII having her killed because he wanted to be rid of her. She had to be stopped because of her ready-made pizza mum rage.

The ladies that went on strike before the russian revolution? Well. Typical ready-made pizza mum rage.

Marie-Antoinette never said anything about cake. She clearly said "let them have ready-made pizza", and the rest is history. The guillotine was invented to cut pizzas by the way.

gamerchick · 03/01/2026 19:56

RememberBeKindWithKaren · 03/01/2026 19:43

You're joking. A man shoved me out of the way in there just before Christmas! Posh shops attract mean people.

OP I hope life gets better. It's common to fixate on minor irritations when you don't have a lot of control over the real problem. Just take it easy.

RememberBeKindWithKaren · 03/01/2026 19:57

@Didshejustsaythatoutloud I was really just trying to squeeze in a (rubbish) pizza pun..Although I stopped using Asda after we moved away to the other side of the town here and I don't miss it at all. Had one or two incidents with bolshy people in the car parks that put me off the place. Maybe one of them was with Op in her mum rage :)

arethereanyleftatall · 03/01/2026 19:57

The really sad thing about this is the whole pay it forward thing.

person A offers to do something kind for person B

person B is rude back (whether they can understand that they are rude or not is irrelevant, they were)

person A takes being kind down a notch and doesn’t bother offering again

GertieLawrence · 03/01/2026 19:59

mumanger · 03/01/2026 19:17

So why tell me she was shut?

How is that not a bitch thing to do?

A bitch thing? She’d probably been on her feet 8 hours and wanted to get home to make her kids tea.

Do you always take everything as a personal assault?! I bet you’ve told people IRL about this too.

What’s worse than a stress head? A stress head without pizza.

tachetastic · 03/01/2026 20:00

The woman in Asda told you they were closed because they were. She tried to be nice and you snapped at her.

This woman had angered you do much by trying to be nice that you had to come on mumsnet and admit that you didn't know whether your mumrage was out of control.

The overwhelming majority on here who took the time to answer said yes, you were unreasonable, and now you seem angry with them too.

Do you end the day angry at someone often?

user1473878824 · 03/01/2026 20:01

mumanger · 03/01/2026 19:01

How is it kind? She told she straight away she wouldn't serve me. So I had to look for premade pizzas. So why then change? And it's "how many do you want" it wasn't "I can squeeze you in if you order just one". It was conditions.

This is so dick-ish. And I don’t mean her.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 03/01/2026 20:01

FFS. Nobody knows what 'mum rage' is, it isn't a thing. You're furious about a total non-event. This reaction isn't something other mothers will relate to, because the vast majority of people respond reasonably to minor disappointment.

ByPoisedRaven · 03/01/2026 20:02

Some stores are 'shut' about 15 minutes before they are shut shut. It takes time to cook, so they will stop orders to give themselves enough time to finish roughly on time. Retail staff deserve their time off after hours too.

Be disappointed but realise it's just bad luck you got there just before shutting. Obviously they had time for a premade pizza, so offered you that. Go with what's available or go elsewhere.

Yes, you were rude, and Mum rage isn't applicable here.

Gofaster2023 · 03/01/2026 20:06

I went to get the bus the other day and my card didnt work and the driver let me on anyway. I was fucking raging. It's either £2.20 or it's not... You are utterly ridiculous OP.
