I can't serve you, actually I will

I don't know if my mum rage is out of control but I went to Asda pizza counter and they were closing so I was told as soon as I joined the queue of 2 people that they were shut. They don't display time and the lights were on, so I was a bit annoyed.

I went to look at the premade pizzas, very annoyed but I didn't say anything to the lady. She then asked how many pizzas I wanted, I reminded her she was shut so why does it matter.

Aibu - either shut and be shut, or serve people?

How is it kind? She told she straight away she wouldn't serve me. So I had to look for premade pizzas. So why then change? And it's "how many do you want" it wasn't "I can squeeze you in if you order just one". It was conditions.

Perhaps she realised she kneaded the dough?

Eyeshadow · 03/01/2026 19:37

There is no such thing as mum rage, you’re just a dick.

She sounds like a nice woman.

I can’t believe this has triggered you so much that you’ve decided to make a thread about it.

pinksheetss · 03/01/2026 19:38

Hahahaha OP your responses are honestly some of the most hilarious I have seen on here.

you are being completely unreasonable and have no conception of others around do you.

she said she was shutting, then probably realised the ones in front she managed to make quicker than expected so could squeeze you in. God forbid someone wanted to finish their work on time

Augarden · 03/01/2026 19:38

So glad my retail days are behind me, there's absolutely no way of predicting what will set some people off 😂

tequilam0ckingbird · 03/01/2026 19:15

She told you she was shut as you joined the queue so you knew not to queue up... then asked how many pizzas you wanted clearly because she saw how disappointed you were and wanted to do a nice thing.

You were very very rude. She's (hopefully) forgotten about it... you're still stewing.

i have a feeling OP was sulking around guffing and puffing if this thread is anything to go by, the poor worker was trying to be nice!!!

Cherrysherbet · 03/01/2026 19:38

Can I just chip in here with a retail workers point of view….
At our workplace, we have recently been told not to clock out a minute late from our shift. This is because of cutting staff hours. I’m thinking what happened here is the lady was feeling the pressure of shutting down the counter and clocking out on time. It was really kind of her to have second thoughts about serving you, as she could have got herself into trouble.

This post just proves how badly retail staff can be treated.

This is definitely a you problem op.

OMG - huffing*
although the mistake is making me LOL

Hobnobswantshernameback · 03/01/2026 19:39

Ah OP you again

stclementine · 03/01/2026 19:39

As someone who is childfree I’m obviously not grown up enough to understand this thing called mum rage. I’d just think you were being a twat to someone offering to do you a favour and if it had happened to me I’d have thanked her profusely and given her my order, whilst again thanking her profusely. But then I’ve never had rage over pizza 💁🏻🤯. Is that a mum thing too?

Snapped and farted, perhaps?

usedtobeaylis · 03/01/2026 19:41

Oh for fuck sake. People change their minds. Including people working in shops.

Womaninhouse17 · 03/01/2026 19:41

This is such a ridiculous post!

HashtagShitShop · 03/01/2026 19:42

Knowing they were shutting at a certain time each night, they'd have been running their toppings and sauce down and not refilling the tubs so might not have been able to fulfill the order wanted as they might not have a full serving of the toppings wanted.

Without meaning to sound like a cow, given your posting and what you said back to her it's likely she realised you were upset and tried to do a nice thing to see if she could do what you wanted.

You were out of order with your reaction. They can't turn the lights or similar off when closing because they probably don't have access to the settings and they'd remain on with noone behind the counter.

No but if you ordered 1 she may have done it after all, if you needed 10, she wouldn’t be able to.

Oh wow that's insane a big change from when I worked on retail where you weren't allowed to leave you station until clock out time. Everyone clocked out late but god help you if you clock in five seconds late 😅

I remember plenty of times turning people away from my checkout but then would have a couple of minutes until I could 'legitimately' close and so would serve someone with fewer items.

jemim · 03/01/2026 19:43

What do you actually want people to say to you here?

workdilemma123abc · 03/01/2026 19:43

mumanger · 03/01/2026 19:19

So?

kindly (or not so much), you are being a twat ridiculous 😂

i actually cannot believe people are this delusional!!!

RememberBeKindWithKaren · 03/01/2026 19:43

You wouldn't see this sort of thing in Marks and Spencers. You get more of the upper crust in those establishments.

PevenseygirlQQ · 03/01/2026 19:44

Bloody hell its Pizza, to be this irked about it is a bit over the top. You were really rude.

UneAnneeSansLumiere · 03/01/2026 19:44

You were rude. I'm normally on the side of customers rather than shop assistants, as I think that customer service in this country is appalling, but in this case I think you were in the wrong.

HashtagShitShop · 03/01/2026 19:44

mumanger · 03/01/2026 19:02

No she wS going to do the premade. They don't reduce those pizzas

They do depending on the time of day, if it's that late that they're closing they probably were so they could sell in the reduced fridge bit.

JaquelineHide · 03/01/2026 19:44

Eh?

Terfedout · 03/01/2026 19:45

mumanger · 03/01/2026 19:17

So why tell me she was shut?

How is that not a bitch thing to do?

There is only one person being a bitch here, and it wasn't her. Why go onto aibu and not accept the fact that every single person disagrees with you? I suspect this is a rage bait post looking for an argument with people.

Putyourfeckingsockson · 03/01/2026 19:45

OP is this your first day on planet earth? You sound a few sandwiches (or pizzas) short of a picnic 🤣

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 03/01/2026 19:45

She probably had to wipe down and clear up before her shift finished!! bet you were raging and it was obvious. She probably felt bad and has went home feeling bad because you were that customer out of 100.
Was your pizza good?
