I can't serve you, actually I will

I don't know if my mum rage is out of control but I went to Asda pizza counter and they were closing so I was told as soon as I joined the queue of 2 people that they were shut. They don't display time and the lights were on, so I was a bit annoyed.

I went to look at the premade pizzas, very annoyed but I didn't say anything to the lady. She then asked how many pizzas I wanted, I reminded her she was shut so why does it matter.

Aibu - either shut and be shut, or serve people?

No need to go off the deep pan end OP.

😂

ClairDeLaLune · 03/01/2026 21:02

YABU for using the expression “mum rage”. What sort of fucking misogynistic term is that?

YABU for being annoyed with the poor woman for just doing her job.

YABVU being rude to her for trying to help you.

YABU for starting a thread over something so trivial (which probably means IABU for wasting my time commenting on it).

YABU for not listening to everyone telling you YABU.

ZanyMaker · 03/01/2026 21:02

I’m going to be of those annoying people that can’t be arsed to read 10 pages. But what was the OP’s response when the server asked how many pizzas she wanted? If she said 1 or 2 did the server then say she would make them? Or was it a case of the counter still being shut and the server just taking the piss 😂

Kitterkitkat · 03/01/2026 21:04

Bloody hell OP, no point in starting this thread. She clearly decided to be kind and stay on a bit longer.

You need to calm down (and I seriously hope I never encounter you in the wild)

PoundlandColumbo · 03/01/2026 21:04

How many more people need to tell you YABU before you'll realise you're in the wrong. You're the reason people don't want to work with the general public.

TiggyTomCat · 03/01/2026 21:04

Who knows why she said it but however irritating you found it but you didn't need to be rude to her. It says more about you than her and it's not a good look. Have a think.

mumanger · 03/01/2026 19:02

It was a good couple of minutes after she told me.... She's either shutting or not.

You're only cutting your own nose off to spite your own face so get on with it OP. Mum rage isn't a thing, you were just an arsehole to her. She thought she couldn't fit you in and then quickly realised she could. Mountain out of a mole hill.

CautiousLurker2 · 03/01/2026 21:05

Whizzingwhippet · 03/01/2026 18:58

Bloody hell, she thought she could squeeze in your order and you were an arse.

Doubt that server will offer again. Screwed up customer service for every other shopper who pitches up around closing time.

IngridBurger · 03/01/2026 21:07

I really don't like the pizza counter pizzas tbh. Cardboard crusts and shit cheese ime. Obviously home made is the way to go for pizza perfection but failing this I prefer the prepacked ones. What am I missing?

ArtfulPinkBird · 03/01/2026 21:13

tequilam0ckingbird · 03/01/2026 19:19

I would be disappointed, sure. But I'd also know she's doing her job. If she suddenly offered to make them anyway, I'd be delighted and grateful. I'd thank her profusely and smile. And she'd feel good that she'd done a good turn.

This would be my reaction exactly, I'd be hugely grateful she was considering making my order even though she was meant to be shut. Maybe she'd been working all day and it was the end of her shift, but then she had second thoughts and thought she'd do a nice thing for you before clocking off? Can you not see this from any other point of view?

Genuinely don't understand the level of anger you're feeling towards this poor retail worker who tried to do a nice thing for you. The only person you've screwed over is you.

mumanger · 03/01/2026 19:01

How is it kind? She told she straight away she wouldn't serve me. So I had to look for premade pizzas. So why then change? And it's "how many do you want" it wasn't "I can squeeze you in if you order just one". It was conditions.

Foul attitude. Who do you think you are?

What’s ‘mum rage’? Is that better or worse than regular rage?

Dunno, but I feel sorry for the children.

Newyearawaits · 03/01/2026 21:15

ContentedAlpaca · 03/01/2026 18:59

Gosh. She decided to do something kind and make your pizza before coming off her shift and that was how you responded. Poor woman

This and you were rude OP

OpheliaHamlet · 03/01/2026 21:18

It must be awful to go through life feeling that everyone is out to get you, and see every kindness in such a twisted way.

AbbotSade1985 · 03/01/2026 21:19

I'm not sure the OP has actually been that rude. I've seen far, far worse behaviour discussed on MN where most replies have been supportive.

OP - we've all had our bad days and I get why you snapped at her. I'm autistic and being told the counter was closed and then seemingly open again would confuse me greatly and unsettle me.

Coconutter24 · 03/01/2026 21:20

mumanger · 03/01/2026 19:15

She didn't try and help me
She told me the pizza counter was shut. Then proceeded to ask me how many pizzas I was buying. How is that any of her business?

Maybe she was going to do your pizzas after all, maybe she told you she was shut so she could serve the customers in the queue and finish on time but maybe that didn’t take aslong as she expected and could make you pizza. You really didn’t have to be so rude to her but I see based on your replies here you are just a rude person

I don’t think OP helped herself when she was further trying to explain herself. You can tell it didn’t end when she was unsettled, it’s just her general attitude towards life.

Rachie1973 · 03/01/2026 21:21

mumanger · 03/01/2026 19:17

Maybe I was wanting to enjoy that pizza?

Jeez. I’d be hoping you choked on it if I were the woman serving.

You’re a giant wanking twat OP.

Oakmilkwanker · 03/01/2026 21:23

Are you drunk op?

Franjipanl8r · 03/01/2026 21:23

It’s not “mum rage”, it’s “petty rage”. There was nothing motherly about your actions.

Owly11 · 03/01/2026 21:23

Oh dear is everything in your world black and white?

SunnyViper · 03/01/2026 21:24

Crazy way to respond. Be rigid and don’t get what you want or behave flexibly and possibly get a positive outcome. I know how I would act……..

xanthomelana · 03/01/2026 21:25

In all fairness I’d say I was shut if I was five minutes into my shift if you rocked up at the counter with this attitude.

Bloozie · 03/01/2026 21:26

It’s definitely the mum rage.

Really, REALLY not reasonable to be this mad over pizza/perceived poor service.

Storming home, starting a thread on Mumsnet, fighting to the death with anyone who suggests you are being unreasonable…

It really is you, my love.

tilypu · 03/01/2026 21:28

I used to work in retail. I have been known to tell someone that my till is closed, then notice that they only have a handful of items and tell them I'll serve them anyway.

Maybe she donated what she was doing quicker than she thought, so she had a bit of time.

But with your attitude she won't worry too much about you not getting the pizza you wanted.
