Disclaimer: Not 100% serious at all 😏

Mine would be to ban repeat offenders who don't return to the threads they start.

A mahooosive multicoloured sticky banner reminding OPs to include their kid's ages in the opening post, as it's nearly always relevant.

What would you add/remove/change?

I'd also ban this sort of opening post...

"My two friends A and B invited C along to the pub. I don't like C because she insulted A, but B wanted her to come anyway. 10 minutes later who should walk in but D. Now D isn't all that friendly with B and A and once fell out with C but A bought her a drink and she sat down next to B who immediately swapped seats with D".

"AIBU to think that was rude?"

What? No...yes...maybe. I'm not fucking sure because my head is totally mashed!! 🤯🤯

Same here. They read like GCSE maths questions to me. Just make up some names!

I’d just be happy if they could stop the CSA images. Should be the number one priority.

Has it happened again since the brought the filter in?

Oh I thought you said her statement contradicted what I said? I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t be welcome eg dads, people without dc, etc. I’m not even young but I think it would be useful to hear from different perspectives.

TBC99 · 01/01/2026 00:40

Nothing. I love it

latenights · 01/01/2026 00:40

Although it would certainly be at odds with the media perception of Mumsnet users if the average user was in fact a 65 yr old man without dc!

EchoedSilence · 01/01/2026 00:40

I'd get rid of the sex topic and all the pervy men who post on there and send disgusting PMs to anyone who has a genuine problem. It would be beneficial to women to discuss sex without BigBoy69 wading in to wank over someones genuine problem.

No, it just read to me that you were saying MN only want 30 year olds to use their site and as I said Justine has said that's not so.

Sorry if I misunderstood, it's very late. Or early.

I agree on the different perspectives, you can't be certain who anyone is on the internet anyway. I could be the Princess of Wales, I'm not or am I?! but either way I detest the cliquey gatekeeping that sometimes crops up here.

The search function is useless

PurpleDisco · 01/01/2026 00:44

I’d change the name so it would be inclusive to everyone, Dad’s, people who aren’t parents etc… So many people think you have to be a Mum to use Mumsnet. The name is very misleading.

latenights · 01/01/2026 00:44

No, it just read to me that you were saying MN only want 30 year olds to use their site and as I said Justine has said that's not so.

You definitely misunderstood then as I never said that. But it is late/early!

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 01/01/2026 00:46

I would make the site actually work, the problems in the attached thread have been going on for over a year, many threads started in the same vein and HQ do fuck all. Just to write and post this message I have had to reload the site twice because it completely freezes then crashes out amongst many other problems, as a user I feel completely ignored and patronised by HQ.

GrandHighPoohbah · 01/01/2026 00:47

I agree with making it compulsory for people to confirm they have actually read the OP before posting, and would extend that to also having read OP's updates. Several posters ask for clarification, OP provides it then ten pages in, someone pops up asking for it all over again 🙄

In that vein, I would also make people confirm they're aware which board they're on. It's so annoying when people chime in on the Christmas board with snarky comments about "how dare you mention anything to do with Christmas in August" type crap. And I agree with PPs on S&B when people trot out "just wear what you want, why do you care?" Check the board before being a dick!

catpigeon · 01/01/2026 00:49

I'd ban anyone who asks about private stupid schools

no. One. Cares

Nucleus · 01/01/2026 00:50

Ban deleting threads because it might be outing or various other excuses created because someone doesn't like the responses they are getting. Think before you post!

Lock threads instead of deciding they have turned into a bunfight and deleting them.

Kirbert2 · 01/01/2026 00:53

If someone complains that people get too much on benefits then they must live on benefits for at least 6 months and then report back how easy it was.

That would probably be easier if they got rid of trending. I think people see a Christmas thread on there in April and jump in to kick off, instead of checking where they are. And also maybe everyone should be able to choose what boards they want to see/are interesting in so they have less chance of finding themselves drifting onto boards they have no interest in and ruining it for the others who do want to post on there.

@SixtySomething thats a good idea actually. I agree that age matters sometimes in terms of context.

Edited

Thanks very much. I think so but there was a thread about it a few months ago and hardly anyone supported it.

I'd ban anyone who tries to shut down debate, because they don't care about a particular issue.

We're. All. Different.

@PhantomAfternoonTea Im genuinely confused why Gransnet exists and who uses it? Everyone on here seems to have been born pre 1960s!

Really?

No cross-posting to Facebook, make the emoji reactions public and bring back the laughter one, let OP’s close their threads to new posts when they have the advice they need, no women’s bums in ads, more reminders to not be dicks to each other.

Indeed. It would be lovely if people just were not dicks to each other.
