Disclaimer: Not 100% serious at all 😏

Mine would be to ban repeat offenders who don't return to the threads they start.

A mahooosive multicoloured sticky banner reminding OPs to include their kid's ages in the opening post, as it's nearly always relevant.

What would you add/remove/change?

OP posts:

Id allow calling out troll posts. Its so frustrating to see people feeding the wank fodder, and grief vultures.

I do report, but fuck me some posts.

I think I’d allow ‘calling out’ troll posts if, and only if, that poster also reports their own post. Then the moderators could decide if they think it was justified or not and respond accordingly. Some troll hunting posts are wrong and unkind.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/01/2026 08:52

Get rid of all the ‘reactions’ until they work on the apps, and then make them fully visible to all.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/01/2026 08:56

arcticpandas · 01/01/2026 08:00

Heard of copy and paste? 😉

doesnt work in the app - they fundamentally messed up the design of rewrite, you can’t easily copy a bit to paste.

Mintyt · 01/01/2026 08:58

I would not have adverts with child on in the sex forum ( I think it’s re fostering)

ErrolTheDragon · 01/01/2026 08:59

Having posted several times in quick succession…I’ve just retired from a long career writing software - clearly they need to retain my services as a user interface consultant.Grin

gamerchick · 01/01/2026 09:06

I'd get rid of name changing.

I don't know why people are still complaining about quoting the first post. It's a compressed quote so doesn't really take much room up.

Tocsin · 01/01/2026 09:07

It’s not compressed on my screen? And hugely, hugely annoying.

nomoretoriesforme · 01/01/2026 09:08

Less advertisement ( find other ways to make money). Ban vigilantes, rude and aggressive posters. Mumsnet should be a safe place for all to post.

it isn’t on the app. So, maybe that’s the appropriate change - compress the op post if it’s quoted on all platforms.

Interesting. This is what quotes look like on mine. Even after posting. Picture should be up in a bit.

Is it the app? It doesn't seem to work very well in general.

What other ways to make money? It is a commercial venture.

Ban the contrived AIBU posts. Eg AIBU to ask where I should go on holiday? Yes YABU, there's a perfectly serviceable holidays section, use that.

Lock threads that end up with dozens of posters saying the same thing. What is the point of hundreds of people all saying 'I think you should do X'?

Cancel the cheque!

ilovesooty · 31/12/2025 23:45

At what age do you feel posters cease to have anything to contribute on any topic?

Anyone born before 1960 by the look of it, so pension age and above. What can they all have done that is so unacceptable?

bruffin · 01/01/2026 09:20

EchoedSilence · 31/12/2025 23:23

Yep. So many gullible posters.

Ban name changing as this encourages trolls and the postets that keep telling their story but chanfe details in each telling iwhen they get called out for their own bad behaviour

Dragonflytamer · 01/01/2026 09:21

I'd ban posters who don't have the comprehension skills to understand a post if there is a single spelling/grammar error.

I'd ban non-parents - what on earth are they doing on mumsnet?

Is this a joke, or are you being serious?
Ok, here's another one- lifetime ban for anyone who asks this dumb question.

It's a parenting forum, why wouldn't I be serious? No one needs parenting advice from people who haven't got kids.

I doubt Mumsnet will be actioning any of these suggestions.

Bones75 · 01/01/2026 09:54

Ban people quoting OP's initial post and only writing a sentence in response

Ban the adverts that move- it makes my eyes go funny

Tocsin · 01/01/2026 09:58

You’ve misunderstood the evolution of this forum, @Dragonflytamer.

Squirrelblanket · 01/01/2026 09:59

I'd ban all the acronyms. DH DD DS DC 🤢

latenights · 01/01/2026 10:00

Are most threads about parenting though? Plus there are plenty of people with kids I wouldn’t want advice from!

SBGM247 · 01/01/2026 10:01

Stop auto watching everything I reply or post on..I want to know if someone responds to me not to the thread. Yes, I can untick the box but it auto ticks it.

I think name changing is good, as long as you can't change mid-thread -which you can't AFAIK. I have shared various things under different names that would easily out me if they were pieced together. I feel confident discussing difficult things knowing that I can be truly anonymous.

I usually read AIBU, which isn't mostly about parenting advice.
