Disclaimer: Not 100% serious at all 😏

Mine would be to ban repeat offenders who don't return to the threads they start.

A mahooosive multicoloured sticky banner reminding OPs to include their kid's ages in the opening post, as it's nearly always relevant.

What would you add/remove/change?

OP posts:
BePoisedPlumUser · 31/12/2025 23:50

I’d ban DS/DH/DD etc., and especially Ddog. It’s so weird.

EchoedSilence · 31/12/2025 23:52

I'd ban 30 year old know it alls.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 31/12/2025 23:54

EchoedSilence · 31/12/2025 23:50

Where does it state that on MN?

It doesn't and Justine has recently stipulated that everyone is welcome here.

SixtySomething · 31/12/2025 23:54

I know few will agree with me but I would include an age group of posters. I think it's relevant and that's why my Username gives my age. It would give some context to people's posts. If an 18 year old gives advice on wills or mortgages, it might not be the best advice. If a 75 year old gives advice on latest trends in babycare, they just might be a bit out of touch. Of course, there will always be exceptions, but this is something I would really like.
That's despite the fact thatI often receive patronising replies to my posts, from people who think I'm likely gaga. It makes me smile. 😀

latenights · 31/12/2025 23:56

@SixtySomething thats a good idea actually. I agree that age matters sometimes in terms of context.

i have made the suggestion so often it is getting boring, but MN have introduced truncating quoted posts to two lines, with a "click to see more" function. There is ZERO reason they couldn't apply this to people quoting the OP (or even remove the quote function for the OP) and i am baffled why they won't do it.

I would ban the use of words like "hubby" "cuppa" and anything referring to the vegetable known as the Potato, aside from Potato.

They have done this, haven't they? In the last few months I've seen op quotes truncated and thought they'd bowed to unbearable pressure. It's been a big relief.
I'm on the browser, maybe it doesn't happen on the app?

latenights · 31/12/2025 23:58

@EchoedSilence I mean what the media image is, eg the logo

Yes I was going to say the same.

I use desktop and the OP quotes are always 'folded'.

Why would wanting a wider age base mean people aren’t welcome?

Tocsin · 01/01/2026 00:03

Liking the (sadly impossible to impose) mandatory comprehension test before responding.

I want another compulsory test before people can access Style & Beauty. And electric shock punishment for anyone who trots out You’d have to be tall and thin and 22 to wear that.

TakeItUpWithTheAnteater · 01/01/2026 00:04

latenights · 31/12/2025 23:42

@TakeItUpWithTheAnteater some
of the threads are completely toxic and if you slightly disagree that M&H are not quite as bad as serial killers etc you are almost bullied off the threads. Definitely not in the spirit.

I agree, I could have held my own against the bullying, but they just got me deleted instead. Their enthusiasm for their cause is pretty much encouraged, I guess.

EchoedSilence · 01/01/2026 00:05

You can't swear on gransnet. So fuck that. I'll stay here and annoy the young 'uns.

My favourite response on S & B are the people that come on to be preachy about how you should just wear what you like and who cares anyway. With the reminder that everything should be purchased from a charity shop anyway.

latenights · 01/01/2026 00:06

Why can’t you swear? That’s surely a weird rule?

latenights · 01/01/2026 00:07

@Tocsin ive pretty much given up on the S&B boards, too frustrating!

latenights · 01/01/2026 00:08

@TakeItUpWithTheAnteater make sure you report them back

Empress13 · 01/01/2026 00:09

Ban LTB if he’s forgotten to take the bin out !

Supersimkin7 · 01/01/2026 00:14

I’d probably support campaigns that help
parents and children, like the NNA’s drive to get childminders & carers safety checked before they’re let loose on your kids.

No they aren’t, who knew.

I’d award prizes for best and most helpful poster in a few topics, too. Some posters on here change lives with their efforts.

Some posters are the living disadvantage of free speech - seems sensible for the site to distinguish the way users do.

Tocsin · 01/01/2026 00:20

I would be reluctant to give it up completely as I genuinely like talking to other enthusiasts about clothes. The difficulty is that 95% of S&B posters do not care about clothes, until they have a wedding or interview to dress for. Then they insist £50 thrown at John Lewis will turn them into Hailey Bieber. By Saturday.

Mandatory severe admonishment from MNHQ for posters who expect me to tell them what’s in the shops in their local High St / shopping mall.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 01/01/2026 00:24

Why would wanting a wider age base mean people aren’t welcome?

It wouldn't. A PP said older posters should stick to GN and you said that you think MNs target posters are 30 year old women.

Just pointing out that Justine's previous statement contradicts both of those opinions.

FreyjaOfTheNorth · 01/01/2026 00:28

I’d just be happy if they could stop the CSA images. Should be the number one priority.

latenights · 01/01/2026 00:29

@AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta Imo the media/PR (whatever you want to call it) target user/image would be a mum of a young dc which I see reflected in the logo as opposed to someone in their 60s with adult dc. But you can disagree. What does Justine’s statement say about who the average user is?

latenights · 01/01/2026 00:31

@Tocsin it’s difficult as I also love clothes but feel the board isn’t as good as used to be. I don’t use other SM except Reddit but i’ve not looked at fashion there.

Crikeyalmighty · 01/01/2026 00:32

EchoedSilence · 31/12/2025 23:31

Allow people to directly reply to a comment. instead of quoting.

I agree with that ( hitting the quote’ )

AFAIK she hasn't said anything about who her average user is but she had to wade in on a thread a couple of years ago when some posters were trying to gatekeep the site and she specifically said that everyone was welcome here, irrespective of age, gender or parenthood status (eg aunties, grans, grandads etc). Not that her stipulation did much good because IIRC they still argued that she was wrong about her own site!
