Disclaimer: Not 100% serious at all 😏

Mine would be to ban repeat offenders who don't return to the threads they start.

A mahooosive multicoloured sticky banner reminding OPs to include their kid's ages in the opening post, as it's nearly always relevant.

What would you add/remove/change?

I'd ban anyone who posts 'first post nails it'

Yes, given that it usually means that the first post has far from ‘nailed it’.

EchoedSilence · 31/12/2025 23:35

Ban all the ageist posters.

latenights · 31/12/2025 23:35

@PhantomAfternoonTea Im genuinely confused why Gransnet exists and who uses it? Everyone on here seems to have been born pre 1960s!

Posts about who can use which public toilet
posts quoting the full OP for absolutely no reason

i have made the suggestion so often it is getting boring, but MN have introduced truncating quoted posts to two lines, with a "click to see more" function. There is ZERO reason they couldn't apply this to people quoting the OP (or even remove the quote function for the OP) and i am baffled why they won't do it.

I would ban the use of words like "hubby" "cuppa" and anything referring to the vegetable known as the Potato, aside from Potato.

Oh I've thought of another one.

People pulling others up on their spelling/grammar when it's perfectly obvious what they're saying.

They'd get an immediate ban 😬

Edited

Particularly the ones that pretend they can’t understand at all.

EchoedSilence · 31/12/2025 23:31

Allow people to directly reply to a comment. instead of quoting.

Oh I don't know about that.

There's something wrong with my brain that it confuses me when there are direct replies in threads!

Reddit and FB confuse me for this reason 😬

OP posts:
latenights · 31/12/2025 23:37

I have to quote now as when I try to copy part of a post the page tends to skip to another thread. Really annoying & never used to happen.

latenights · 31/12/2025 23:18

Get rid of the Royal boards, they do not reflect well on MNs particularly as they are now trying to foster a kinder community.

Somehow attract new & younger posters or maybe just more middle aged ones!

God, I got deleted for pointing out how awful some comments were on a Meghan and Harry thread. It was actually a response to a really aggressive post which did not get deleted. They must like the traffic those vitriolic threads drive, because they seem to get away with far from what would’ve been called ‘in the spirit’ previously.

I like Reddit because you can directly reply to a comment. Reads more like a conversation to me.

ThatFairy · 31/12/2025 23:39

For one thing, I would stop the site constantly assessing whether or not I'm a robot because I use vpn

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 31/12/2025 23:40

I'd ban eye colour threads because they're really boring, and those where someone posts a pregnancy test and we have to decide if there's a line or not because I find them too stressful!

JellyIegs · 31/12/2025 23:40

I’m against AI in a lot of cases but maybe some sort of AI-generated quiz posters must complete in order to respond to a thread, to prove they’ve actually read and understood the OP.

So many posts include e.g. “DP and I have lived together for X months” or “DS (13) stayed out past curfew…” and people fire in with replies ‘do you live together?’ and ‘how old is DC?’ argh.

bigboykitty · 31/12/2025 23:42

The need for the laughing emoji is real.

latenights · 31/12/2025 23:42

@TakeItUpWithTheAnteater some
of the threads are completely toxic and if you slightly disagree that M&H are not quite as bad as serial killers etc you are almost bullied off the threads. Definitely not in the spirit.

Why? Because you can’t handle truth and wisdom? Not cool.

DameOfThrones · 31/12/2025 23:43

I'd also ban this sort of opening post...

"My two friends A and B invited C along to the pub. I don't like C because she insulted A, but B wanted her to come anyway. 10 minutes later who should walk in but D. Now D isn't all that friendly with B and A and once fell out with C but A bought her a drink and she sat down next to B who immediately swapped seats with D".

"AIBU to think that was rude?"

What? No...yes...maybe. I'm not fucking sure because my head is totally mashed!! 🤯🤯

Perhaps just a general comprehension test before you can post?

At what age do you feel posters cease to have anything to contribute on any topic?

BeQuirkyMintScroller · 31/12/2025 23:47

Can we do something about the zombie threads? Only takes one poster to resurrect it and then others don't realise 🫠

hmdxm1 · 31/12/2025 23:48

Also, the mention of AI reminds me that I wish there was a mandatory self reporting AI flag so if someone has used it because they struggle or whatever they can flag it, and we can then troll hunt the ones that don’t Halo

ilovesooty · 31/12/2025 23:45

I don’t think older users shouldn’t contribute but I think responses often lack a balance so it would be nice if it was more mixed.

I find it a little jarring because I think MNs would say their user base is a 30 yr old mum with young dc but I don’t think that reflects the community at all.

Wheelz46 · 31/12/2025 23:49

Not allowing people to respond to a post and only quote the poster without including the actual post they are responding to.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 31/12/2025 23:50

Posters who state the fucking obvious 1,300 posts in like nobody else in the entire thread would have thought of it. Instant ban.

Posters who say passive aggressively "any reason why you..." Instant ban.

Posters who quote a War and Peace style post. Instant ban.

Posters who arrive and instantly want to start changing the furniture around...we'll the can just fuck off to Netmums.

Where does it state that on MN?
