I can’t see anything that gives a clear reason.

In my own experience, the parents of top athletes - particularly swimmers - are often a nightmare. As much as Peaty leaves a sour taste in my mouth, I can completely see how his mother may be toxic, and why his brothers hold resentment.

We always hear “oh she’s so devoted, driving her son to swimming six mornings a week at 4am and waiting in her car for three hours every day so he can pursue his dream”. But does this come from a place of selflessness and altruism? Somehow I doubt it.

And his siblings see this and realise that he’s the golden child and the home life completely revolves around the Star Athlete whilst they have to muddle along to get by on their own terms. Of course that’s going to breed resentment.

I think some women can't deal with their partners mum. I'm sure I will get slated for this, but I see it all the time on MN.

The MIL is always the demon, they can't bear the fact that their partner has another woman that is important in their life. It is encouraged by other women and on sites like this.

See also Brooklyn Beckham.

It seems to be more so that some mums can't handle the transition to no longer being the most important person in their sons lives.
Some women will put up with the nastiness that stems from those types of MILs for the sake of keeping the peace, but others won't tolerate it, or will get to a point where its gone on too long.

Tattiana · 28/12/2025 22:10

Urgh everything I know about this, I know against my will.

It’s like the media have just decided this is going to be the latest scandal and suddenly it’s everywhere.

BlackCat14 · 28/12/2025 22:10

I think a lot of people care… I’ve seen at least three threads about it on here today, people are lapping it all up online.

See also fathers who resent their sons in law. And divorced Dad’s who put their grown up daughter’s wishes ahead of their new wife /partner’s wishes and feelings. It’s not just women who are a problem!

She always seemed like she had the potential to embarrass him. She was all over social media when he left Strictly claiming it was a fix and calling out other celebs she thought deserved to go before him. That might be ok for obsessive fans but the celeb and their families are meant to have a bit of dignity about it and also support their fellow contestants.

MissAnthr0pe · 28/12/2025 22:27

I read somewhere that it all started when the Peatys (and other guests) had to hand in their phones and sign NDAs when they attended the engagement party last year...

Luckystar67 · 28/12/2025 22:28

If she (mum) and her sister weren’t bleating to the Daily Mail regularly I may have some more sympathy. This “toxic text” the aunt apparently sent before the wedding yesterday was obviously leaked by them as if Adam wouldn’t have them blocked by now.

The wedding is done now so the cash cow is going to run out soon.

Think a lot of it stems from her probably preferring the ex girlfriend who baby trapped him as soon as she could and even though he tried his best, it didn’t last.

Oh wow. Didn’t know that. She’s like Mr Markle

I actually think his ex has behaved with grace and class, despite everything thrown at her.

I’d also argue that he’s not the best father - he spent a couple of months over Christmas in Australia a couple of years ago, didn’t he? Away from his son.

She’s been great through this drama not making any comments etc.

I can’t comment about him being in Australia, wouldn’t that have been for training for the Olympics?

Saying the ex "baby trapped" him is so misogynistic. He was just as much a part of making the baby as she was.

Apparently Adam’s Mum was upset that their wider family wasn’t invited to the engagement party .

And she confronted Gordon Ramsay about it at the party and made a bit of a scene.

I can’t imagine that would go down too well !

madaboutpurple · 28/12/2025 23:15

I do think it was sad she wasn't there at the wedding. Maybe the couple need to organise a similar party to their wedding event and make sure his Mum is the honoured guest.

Baby trapped him! Fuck off with the misogyny. He had a choice of whether to have sex or not.

madaboutpurple · 28/12/2025 23:17

I met a bride recently and she had her two bridesmaids with her and her hen party was just going to be taking her bridesmaids for a meal as that was all she wanted to do rather than having a big party.

Calling a woman Karen is so misogynistic

Don't do "Karen". Did you not realise? It's a horribly misogynistic trope.

Why would they do that if they already chose not to invite her?!
