DH is a spoilt brat

He is going to be gifted a perfume today. He asked for 100 ml but Mil asked me to order 200 ml. I helped her out with her online orders. Partner said oh did I ask for a perfume? I told him yes. He said: but did I ask for 100 ml? I said yes but your mum might have gotten you more since she's generous, you will see.
He goes off yelling about not being able to take it on his travels (100 ml limit) and I should have known better and he has no use for 200 ml. I told him I don't travel often neither does Mil so how the fuck were we to think that he wanted his perfume for travel.

Mil has thrown ticket and box away so can't return. I am so furious with dh acting like a spoilt brat. Our kids would never act like this even if disappointed- they are teens and polite.

Later on he came and said sorry I shouldn't have reacted like that...and then he went on again talking about how he'll have no use for it and he will buy his 100 ml himself and how he will never ask for anything again ! Bonkers ! If it wasn't for my kids I would be leaving for a couple of days. Immature entitled twat!! I have been disappointed with gifts but never said something but believe me this year I will not save his feelings and will tell him to return anything I don't like. Would that be unreasonable?

Why is it so important that he smells nice when away travelling, I wonder..??

What's his job OP and where does he travel to?

Come on 🙄

endofthelinefinally · 25/12/2025 10:14

Has he never heard of decanting into a travel atomiser?

katepilar · 25/12/2025 10:15

He's never heard of decanting?

Parfumes dont decant easily, do they. None of mine had a bottle you can open and pour out of. You would need to spray it out to decant.

I understand he is totally frustrated. He asked for something, and got something different which he hasnt got a use for.
I personally fund the whole gift-giving culture really weird.

Behave 🤣🤣 a sodding chimp could use one of the kits you get from Amazon to decant 😂

How could it be decanted ? Unless it isn’t an atomiser bottle

You can decant from an atomiser if your travel size atomiser comes with the correct attachment. A bit like the fine tube that you get with WD40.

MaeWestNeverForgets · 25/12/2025 10:18

I mean, I'm no psychologist, but I'd wager this isn't really about the old eau de Cologne...

hattie43 · 25/12/2025 10:18

Why doesn’t he just decamp some in to a small atomiser for travel ? Nice perfume is not cheap so he needs to show more gratitude

DahlsChickenz · 25/12/2025 10:18

Cupboarddoorknob · 25/12/2025 09:12

Wow. You sleep with this man?

what is wrong with you? It's not OP's fault her husband is being an arsehole so why are you finding a way to have a dig at her as though she's the one who has done something wrong?

Oh frigg off 😂 some people just like to smell good. I am one of them. I’m not trying to impress anyone but myself as it makes me feel clean and sharp.

I also buy the small bottles of perfume so I can take them travelling as I’m too lazy to decant. My mum buys me perfume and I always ask for the small size for that reason.

However - if she bought me a big one I’d not even be annoyed. I’d just finally have to buy an atomiser or buy myself a smaller one for travel and keep bigger one for home.

somanychristmaslights · 25/12/2025 10:20

To be fair, not all perfume can be decanted. Some of mine as sealed so you can’t unscrew it. Not unless you spend the time spraying it into the other bottle.

but that’s beside the point. What an awful man.

Luckyingame · 25/12/2025 10:22

I'd hate other people choosing.... anything for me. Full stop.

MynameisJune · 25/12/2025 10:23

A lot of airports have abolished the 100ml rule now. Also if he has hold luggage he can take whatever size he wants.

His behaviour would be a major ick for me.

NagathaCrispy · 25/12/2025 10:27

Like the poster above, I'd be wondering why he needs perfume when he travels and why he's kicking up such a fuss about this, using the travel thing as the major issue (but then I'm a suspicious mare at the best of times!!!) .......

Where does he go and for how long? Does he wear this stuff at home?

themerchentofvenus · 25/12/2025 10:30

@arcticpandas he is a dick. No one takes their 100ml bottle when travelling in case it gets broken.

Surely he has an atomiser that you decant some into??

diddl · 25/12/2025 10:34

I wonder if he would have yelled at his mum in such a way if just given the fragrance?

Why is he checking what he asked for?

Perhaps he should have specified why he wanted 100ml?

Lotsnlotsoflove · 25/12/2025 10:35

How often does he travel OP?

BusterGonad · 25/12/2025 10:35

Besides the point, but why would his mum take it out of the box before giving it to him. Weird. It's like buying someone a pair of shoes and throwing the shoe box away.

notacooldad · 25/12/2025 10:35

Tell him to decant some into a travel perfume holder like this

No tell him to grow the fuck up and behave like an adult and if he doesn't know how to he had better learn fast!

What a div!

gamerchick · 25/12/2025 10:37

Give your MIL a heads up so she can not give it to him at all.

Sanasaaa · 25/12/2025 10:38

How incredibly unattractive. You like this bloke?

TittyGajillions · 25/12/2025 10:39

If my husband threw a hissy fit about 'perfume' I'd find it hard to ever take him seriously again.

theresnolimits · 25/12/2025 10:45

You get an atomiser that has a pump action. You don’t need to unseal the perfume bottle, just put the atomiser on top of the tube without the white attachment spray and pump it in. Takes a couple of minutes. If the perfume costs a bomb (how generous mum) it’s worth a small investment in an atomiser.

Although UK airports have stopped the 100ml, in my experience airports overseas haven’t and the risk is he couldn’t bring it back.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/12/2025 10:49

My DS have travel atomisers for aftershave. DS2 is a blind young adult and he still manages to decant his aftershave. I am sure your DH will manage. Tell him to stop being an ungrateful drama queen.

BiddyPopthe2nd · 25/12/2025 10:50

I have one of those 5ml atomisers linked above for my travels - actually really useful!
