or am I being dramatic?

Please be honest if im overreacting. Me and my boyfriend have been together officially for 6 weeks, it's going really well. Yesterday we went out for dinner and I drove us back to mine after. On the way back, he rolled down the window and threw his empty drink can out of my car. As soon as he rolled down the window i knew that was what he was going to and asked / begged him not to as I'm the one who's car it is and I don't want someone posting my car all over the local facebook group saying rubbish is being thrown out of it.

Also it gave me the ick. I find it a bit grim that he couldn't wait 10 mins till we got to my house to throw his rubbish away.

I would have pulled over, pick up the can and told him to get out of my car. No arguments. Bye.

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 19/12/2025 17:10

Yep - put him in the bin

🤮🤮🤮

Ho Ho HO!

mbonfield · 21/12/2025 11:31

Best that you found out early on. Good luck with the next one OP

Satsuma55 · 21/12/2025 11:33

Absolutely end it. Who does that? I don't know anyone that would do that. Appalling.

Meteorite87 · 21/12/2025 11:33

Only a month in? End it.

It's not only what he did but that he ignored your request beforehand not to.

viques · 21/12/2025 11:35

Dump him. Imagine if you stayed with him, and in ten years time he throws his rubbish and you have to explain to your kids that littering is wrong “But Daddy throws his rubbish in the street” . Or he is doing schoolpick up and chucks his coke can on the floor in front of the other parents and teachers, or he is stopped by an enforcement officer while out with the family and fined on the spot.

It’s high time littering and dumping and flytipping were seen as anti social as spitting, speeding and drink driving. It puts up the cost of keeping streets and neighbourhoods clean and safe for everyone, shows contempt for the environment and wildlife, and shows a level of selfishness and self importance that probably leaks into other areas of life.

Sorry for the rant! I will carefully climb down from my high horse now.

Tryingnottobeamouse · 21/12/2025 11:36

That's not a tiny thing at all. That's appalling, 100% end things based on this. I'd have ended it just with him doing it, but the fact that you asked him not to and he still did. Awful.

amigafan2003 · 21/12/2025 11:46

I couldn't be friends with anyone that litters, let alone date them.

wombat1a · 21/12/2025 11:48

Get rid, disgusting pig.

Ivy888 · 21/12/2025 11:56

You asked him not to.
You even write you begged him. To me this suggests you didn’t just ask him once, but repeatedly.
He still threw the can.

What happened after he tossed the can?

I would have stopped the car and told him to get out and pick it up.
It’s not just about tossing the can. It’s about the MASSiVE level of disrespect towards you. You asked him to not do something. You gave him a reason (which in all honesty should not be necessary because every Tom, Dick and Harry knows tossing a can =litter= an offence. By still doing it he totally disrespected you.
Please don’t say you went home and had sex with this twat after what happened.

Fionasapples · 21/12/2025 11:59

Bye bye to him!

FancyCatSlave · 21/12/2025 12:03

I’d have kicked him out the car there and then. Revolting 🤮

Rhootintootinboo · 21/12/2025 12:04

It’s not a tiny thing. It’s absolutely abhorrent and I’d know immediately that I couldn’t be with someone who cares so little for other people and the environment. When I was much younger I made a new boyfriend go and pick up the bank statement he casually tossed over his shoulder. Then dumped him. I’m still single but I’d rather be than compromise on values.

MyDeftDuck · 21/12/2025 12:11

I would have stopped the car and made him get out, pick up his trash and put it in the bin when we get home…….refusal would be met with me driving off and leaving the moron stranded! What a fucking idiot!

BatchCookBabe · 21/12/2025 12:11

Absolute no from me. He'd be dumped before I had dropped him off.

wfhwfh · 21/12/2025 12:14

I can understand the ick. This is very low-grade behaviour.

How did he react when you asked him not to? What did he say afterwards?

I’d never let someone who did that in my car again.

KingfisherBluey · 21/12/2025 12:25

End it.

I can't abide people who throw litter .

Why didn't he take it home and put it in a bin?

MissDoubleU · 21/12/2025 12:25

Nope, dump his ass. What a disgusting human. Who does that??

ForUmberFinch · 21/12/2025 12:42

Bikergran · 19/12/2025 17:11

6 weeks is not a relationship. He's a dirty chavvy slob. Dump.

Well put! Totally agree, get rid of this toad

xAwaywiththefairiesx · 21/12/2025 12:58

Ew Ew Ew

This is incredibly unattractive to me.

Happyasapiginmuck1 · 21/12/2025 13:19

Have one more date. Take him on a litter pick, and then bin him.

Tortielady · 21/12/2025 13:24

Even if it had been a small thing, you'd have been justified in calling it off after only six weeks. But here's the thing. As others have said, it's not minor. He didn't get the order of cutlery wrong at a fancy dinner, or wear brown shoes at a black-tie event. Moreover, at this early point, you're supposedly in the honeymoon phase. What's he going to be like after six months? Will he be spitting, throwing punches when he's had a few, refusing to flush the loo etc? You're already finding his behaviour icky and with good reason. I'd get that skip hired ASAP - you deserve better.

ThatMauveReader · 21/12/2025 13:32

If someone shows you who they are believe them the first time!

smithsgj · 21/12/2025 14:00

Agree with everyone else obviously but who tf goes out for dinner and then has a drink in a can on the way home. Weird

Whatafustercluck · 21/12/2025 14:27

Get rid now or I bet you a pound to a penny you'll be picking his shitty under crackers off the floor in a few years.
